I love this song you should watch the sabaton history channel as this song was inspired by the speech the Serbian major made before that final charge “Soldiers, exactly at three o’clock, the enemy is to be crushed by your fierce charge, destroyed by your grenades and bayonets. The honour of Belgrade, our capital, must not be stained. Soldiers! Heroes! The supreme command has erased our regiment from its records. Our regiment has been sacrificed for the honour of Belgrade and the Fatherland. Therefore, you no longer need to worry about your lives: they no longer exist. So, forward to glory! For the King and the Fatherland! Long live the King, Long live Belgrade!”
The "our lives are erased" line isn't only a metaphor for the Serbian soldiers marching to their deaths. Their names were erased by the Army command before they even died, as they knew it was gonna be a suicidal last charge to defend Belgrade. And it was, but they did it anyway. That moment is still a source of pride for Serbia
Yeah, purposely sacrificed to buy time for French troops to arrive and help, and to protect evacuation of civilians and wounded out of the city in front of huge invasion. This is not only example in Serbian military history, there are plenty similar events, but this one is surely the most famous heroic act.
