Hola amigos! I've just had upload this by stealing a restaurant's wifi while sitting outside (!) so Spanish translation will have to wait. No wifi in Acapulco! 😡. *What do you think of 60s old school life at La Quebrada?* 🇲🇽🇲🇽❤ ¡Hola amigos! Acabo de subir esto robando el wifi de un restaurante mientras estoy sentado afuera (!) When I was young Acapulco was the place where young people went on weekends to rest. It saddens me to see how you find her at this moment, hopefully the authorities rescue her and recover the shine she had
I love how your videos shift slightly to fit the place you’re visiting. And this one is now one of my faves! So nostalgic and thoughtful and interesting.
Thank you so much for posting this! My mother and I used to have a timeshare in Acapulco in the 80s. It was up the hill from Caleta Beach. Watching this brought back a lot of great memories. You've inspired me to visit.
I've been to Acapulco twice, once in Feb for my son's birthday, and then again in March when a friend visited. I really loved it as well! Beautiful beaches, nice people, and very inexpensive. I also just like the vibe there. I went to Veracruz to visit a friend last week, the beaches are pretty unimpressive, but a great city as well. Gotta love beautiful Mexico.
wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww You have finally visited the place where i am from.... I felt you near when watchin this video,,,, miss my city.. Acapulco
It was awesome! I just got back to CDMX, but there are another 2 Acapulco videos to come. La Laja/safety video and my birthday meal at Playa Condesa (i get drunk jaja)
You're welcome Paul! God this was years ago and I wish I'd gone back when my filming and editing had improved lol. Acapulco gets so much crap in the media especially from foreigners who haven't even been there but I guess we know otherwise! I've never been a huge fan of beach locations (not just in Mexico but anywhere) but Acapulco is one I'll definitely go back to. It's history and scenery make it unique for me.
I used to go to Acapulco when I was a college student. Acapulco has one of the most beautiful bays in the world; however, you are right, this resort has been somewhat forgotten by investors and it shows some deterioration. !I would certainly go back any time just to enjoy Acapulco’s natural beauty!
Sus vídeos son los mejores que existen sobre este tipo de acercamientos íntimos con diversos lugares de México. Excelente trabajo. Gracias por compartirlo con el mundo.
The place relatively looks (in the video above) clean and the buildings despite looking abandoned, doesn't seem to be dilapidated. It looks like it's still being maintained. Thanks David.
I think it transports you to another time, that's why the abandonment of some areas is so sad. I hope you enjoy your stay in Acapulco because the beach and the views are beautiful. ❤️😘
Congratulations again for your bthy David... And also again for the video and your reflexión... It s a little bit sad... but this "gem" will recover, Im sure! AND... I do really love always your Music selection David... It s always the right Selection!
Stuning david...one of my favorist beaches in mexico. Its incredible that living in mexico and whith bounches of beuty beaches i hardly have the oportunity to visit them.
Hello tocayo! Loving ur black hair! 😉 Thanks for the video and giving a different perspective of Acapulco. I don't know why, and maybe this is what happened to u, but I love old places. The solitude, the abandonment of a grand place fills me with some sort of yearning to just be there and take everything in from a positive perspective. To think all that went on in that place. All the different love stories those buildings have witnessed. The countless memories of different people on those same beaches... It's a weird type of nostalgia. Stay safe 😘
I loved this - I was in Acapulco in 2012 and stayed in the zocolo - It was pretty much the same then. I used to love riding up and down the costera - it was only 6 pesos then. I can't for your next Acapulco videos. Your videos are getting better and better all the time.
Hi David - you might want to visit Las Brisas (and the view is breathtaking!)- that was once a very nice part of Acapulco - or Hotel Princess and the private beach! Also, breathtaking! That's how I remember these sites in the 70s...
Great recommendations. We stayed at Las Brisas in the late 1980s and 1990s and it was amazing. What a view! Hotel Princess is beautiful and still site of the Acapulco Open in Tennis. Rafael Nadal and other tennis stars were there a few weeks ago.
OMG when I saw that couple dancing next to the little band I started to cry. What a beautiful, sweet image and what a powerful impression that little slice of people just living their lives gave me!!! Thank you!! I was one of those people who spend my winters in Acapulco in the 1970s and early 1980s with my parents, coming from Canada, and I LOVED it!! Still the happiest memories of my life and I am almost 60 now. It was such a glamorous, fun, exotic and safe and wonderful place, a magical place, and I am so sad when I hear about how it has been pretty much abandoned by Western tourists because of all this stupid sick gang violence and drug bullshit. THANK YOU for this video! I started to return to Mexico only this past year after more than 30 years away from it (my friends own a small hotel in Bucerias) and all I could think while I was there, was that "this is not Acapulco". Perhaps next time I need to fix that, and just return to Acapulco, return to the Condesa - Icacos Beach area I knew so well, and to Puerto Marquez where I had my first kiss with a local boy! Do my bit to let people know there is still some magic there! Your video has impressed me so deeply. I know it will be different, what has not changed radically in the past 30 years?? But even just seeing your video, I could smell the ocean next to the exhaust fumes and the taco stands, hear the ranchera music, remember the colour of the water and the sky... you made for me a Love Letter to Acapulco David, and I am so grateful and I am now a subscriber!!!!! Thank you!! And happy belated birthday!!!!
Thank you David for the reminder of the beauty of the simplest things and the treasures that we can bring back from the past into the present. You have brought us some lovely memories and you have shown that we can give great value and meaning again to places like this. Paradoxically a kid distracted you and that incident, along with the humble tacos in the street, remind us of the first experiences when we discover places and events just like children do, like we should still do! Remembering good times with my family and my abuelita ‘Mayte’ in Acapulco. Thanks for finding one of the forgotten jewels! Greetings from the ‘Mex-Brits’!
Lived there for 3 years. Go just north to Pie de la Cuesta past the Air Force base by about 3 miles. Grab a cold corona and enjoy. FABULOUS beach and fresh water lake, open quaint little bars, horses walking the sand road. Your welcome.
Epic! You'll love it. I really need to come back to the Philippines and do it properly (was only in Bagiuo to see a friend briefly). Watch this space! #asiathereturn
It was very sad to see Acapulco today. I grew up in CDMX and my family had a beach house in Acapulco and we would spend lots of weekends or holidays with cousins, aunts, uncles and family friends. It was a wonderful time and I have cherished memories of that period of time, like watching "Roma" when I was at boarding school while the Tlatelolco caos in '68 went on, soldiers in response to the president's orders would go house to house searching for students and others and they came into my school in la Colonia Del Valle, the nuns were not happy. But time in Acapulco was golden, the people were all wonderfully dressed, the jet set was present, there was glamour in the city and the beaches were a paradise with yatchs in the bay. Now I saw rundown buildings, unpainted storefronts and the decay you mentioned, so sad, it was hard to even recognize. We also stopped going due to the worsening issues in the area since Guerrero has been having issues for a while even though President's Aleman son and Governor Miguel Aleman Jr brought a lot of investment, tourism, the convention center and even had Televisa helping but guess it didn't work. We started going overseas to study and kind of lost track then we switched to going to Puerto Vallarta because my parents kept a house there and then we were growing up and our lives changed.
Hola Belina! I love it when people with experience of places in the past leave a comment! I love the thought of the jetset era, I would have loved to have been around then!
Looks really nice over there! We really enjoyed this video! We skipped on Acapulco in favour of the coast of Oaxaca (which has amazing sunsets of which we made some drone shots of). It looks like we'll need to return to Mexico to explore more. Naick & Kim Travel
Awesome sounds great! The south coast of Oaxaca has always been on my list! I've got a friend who lives down there. Thanks for watching and commenting guys!
I agree with everything you said. And despite all negative comments about Acapulco, I was there just once a long time a go and I still dream going back to see that spectacular bay. If you go up to Laa Brisas zone and you see the whole bay from up, yo will undestand why they said back in time...Acapulco, the most beautiful bay in the world!!!!
I agree! It was so beautiful! I'm back in CDMX now, there's still 2 Acapulco videos for me to edit, they are more themed around my birthday though. Will be ready during the week!
We watch You Tube on our tv - sometimes it takes a while to get on the computer to comment. I just want to say that this is a fascinating video. I really appreciate that you are looking at things from a unique perspective. I am also fascinated by the comments you inspired about Acapulco. It is sad to see place that was so special for so many people loose its luster. Anyway, keep up the great and thought provoking work!
This is my hometown had the most amazing childhood there,I no longer live there because of the violence..I can't imagine raising my family there the narco culture is just to strong now and it will take a generation to get rid of..I live in Merida and I'm planning on moving to Puerto Vallarta because it's similar to Acapulco..It's sad really beacause I was born and raised there and i believe it's a far superior bay than Puerto Vallarta better beaches etc.,but safety is important and even though Puerto Vallarta has it's problems it's still much safer than Acapulco..It made me almost cry looking at your video and remembering all those amazing places, I used to live in la pinzona about 5 blocks from the Zocalo...Acapulqueños are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet my mom moved down there in th 80s and passed away when I was 12 years old I was practically raised by Acapulqueños friends until I was 17 when I moved to the states to work.. So my recommendation for Acapulco is visit if you have no children and are a bit adventurous and want a great beach bargain with amazing food.. Families should look elsewhere I've had a friend die and many others almost shot at by being in cross shootings..Criminals don't target tourists down there but all it takes is being at the wrong place at the wrong time I used to go down there when I was single but now that I have a family I won't. And why take that risk if you have children I don't and I consider myself 100% Acapulqueño!
Very good advice, I remember as a kid in the 80's seeing all the game shows, award vacations to the Acapulco Plaza and Acapulco Princess. I hope to visit the Princess in January. If it was good enough for Howard Hughes, it is good for me.
Zona turística magnífica, ten cuidado con todo lo demás. Comida muy rica, Pozole de mariscos y otras variedades, por ahí hay un pescado huérfano, realmente bueno.
Well done again my friend. Acapulco deserves this boost to it tarnesed reputation. Too much fear reporting going on, when the reality is much different. Nice music mix Hasta luego.
I have been to Puerto Vallarta and Sayulita, they are thriving and relatively safe. The locals are really nice and respectful to tourists. I've watched a documentary about the gangs and crime syndicates in Acapulco, they extort money from business owners otherwise they'll give them troubles and hard times that's why many investors and small business owners left the city or stopped doing business. Apparently, most police are involved in the extortion syndicate so it's deteriorating the situation and that's really sad.
I should mention one thing, looking at how to travel there, I noticed it would be much easier to fly round trip to Mexico City and have a separate ticked to Acapulco. From Miami this makes the first day only 3.5 hours vs., 15 hours.
Have you been to playa del Carmen yet? It been quite some years since I been there and was wondering how safe it is now. i been there twice and really missed it. I’m looking forward to a video for that.
Playa del Carmen is 45 mins away from Cancun. Because I don’t like Cancun either, playa was beautiful, away from the the hustle and bustle of Cancun but what’s wrong with Vallarta? It’s been a very long time since I been there too
@@alwayzsic full of americans who don't bother learning any spanish, nothing of interest, minimal history in comparison to other places. San Luis, Zacatecas etc are far more up my street. Got a video uploading from Tlaxcala right now. Popular tourist places are just URGHHH for me. Any country not just Mexico. Acapulco was an exception!
The Tao of David I just RUclips playa del Carmen 2019. I can’t believe how much it’s changed. It got so touristy. Last time I went to playa and Vallarta was over 7 years ago..maybe more. Back then playa was just a cute small beach town. Vallarta also wasn’t that touristy. I see what you mean. Now we go to Nicaragua. My husband is from there. But that was 3 years ago. It’s not safe right now with all the protests going on but hopefully once it calms down we go back.
Saludos David, es una tristeza que la corrupcion del gobierno y la delincuencia tengan así uno de los destinos turísticos más tradicionales de México. Besos David😘😘😘😘
Hello David, yes Acapulco was really famous in the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s even Elvis Presley made a movie in Acapulco in 1963 it was called Fun in Acapulco. Its a real shame and did you know that Guerrero is one of the poorest states in Mexico. Happy Birthday again and i hope you like Monterrey when you come.
As a native from Mexico City, Acapulco was the beach town where I normally spent summer and winter vacation back in the 1980s. I have not been to Acapulco in more than 20 years. Why? Over-development. The county government, the hoteliers and locals they all killed the hen of the golden eggs. I mean, they were unable or reluctant to adapt to new trends in tourism and they kept building monstrous hotel complexes just on the beach. They killed Acapulco's glamour and turn into a cheap destination for American spring-breakers. Nowadays not even American spring-breakers want to go visit Acapulco. That's very sad.
Why sad?? I'm from Acapulco and I give less of a fuck if a tourist decides to visit or not... We are not defined by tourist to begin with and we give less of a fuck if they talk shit... Acapulco to begin with is for the people from Acapulco and not a monedita de oro ..
Omg david im emailing you right now ! Btw you had something above the left sude of your lip when ypu were talking about the area looking dilapidated. But enough of that , theres a serious email heading your way
Frank Sinatra had a home there. Tarzan lived and died there. My second home from 1962-2011. I speak Spanish as a second language, but I do not write it. Caleta is my favorite area.
I'm from there brother and yes military and national guard took over because cops where so corrupt and they want tourists to comeback and btw there's a lot of afro Mexicans there to be safe brother
A couple of more places I recommend is Playa Revolcadero. The waves are amazing there. I fell off a horse on that beach nearly 30 years ago. lol I landed on the soft sand and didn't break anything, luckily. I also recommend Isla de la Roqueta. My father used to swim to that island back in the 60s and 70s when the family lived in Acapulco. Playa Pie de la Cuesta is beautiful also. This video brought me so many great memories, David. I literally have tears in my eyes. I'm so happy you went to La Quebrada. I'm going to watch Fun in Acapulco with Elvis tonight and play some "South of the Border" by Sinatra in your honor. Acapulco was so wonderful back in the day, but the charm and beauty is still there. Thank you so much for this fantastic video. P.S. Another famous movie made in Acapulco besides Fun in Acapulco (1963) with Elvis was "El Sube y Baja" (1958) with Mario Moreno "Cantinflas." Those movies really give you the feel of how it was back in the glory days of Acapulco.
Acapulco used to be Mexico’s paradise. It sad to see what it has become. Puerto Vallarta is now stealing that title. I hope one day Acapulco becomes what was in the past.
I grew up going to Acapulco before it got insecure. The cartels destroy opportunities for 99% of Mexicans to create some for a small 1%. I really hope that Acapulco returns to its former glory, it's an absolutely magical and beautiful place.
So sad to see the state that Acapulco is in. A good example of what happens in 10 or 20 years to a beautiful place when flocks of rich people buy houses in the hills and hardly ever leaves them so the locals and hotels have not enough consumers, little to no money. Fast forward a few more years and crime emerged and took over, which end up scaring more people from going there. Nonetheless it keeps being the most beautiful bay... sunsets are incredible there.
Many small businesses in Acapulco were killed by extortion. They needed to pay extortion just for opening, so they ended up closing for good. I visited in 2000 and it was still nice and safe. // I forgot, part of my family arrived from Spain to Acapulco in the 1800s and 1900s. One Acapulco mayor, Juan R. Escudero, was part of my family, I met his brother in 1980s. There was a tragedy when a theater burned down, Teatro Flores, many of my family members from Spain died there. The people in these photos here were my family too panteondesanfrancisco.es.tl/Tragedia-del-Teatro-Flores-de-1909.htm
My mother is from Acapulco also, when she was a schoolgirl, she was asked to welcome world leaders together with all students waving little flags. She saw the Kennedy's, Suharto from Indonesia, many, many presidents, kings.
oh, come on..la laja? even i avoid going there. Anyway cool videos! keep it up after this trip to Acapulco you are ready to go and survive anywhere @@davidostrowski679
what does imagining what it was like for the stars of the 60s do for me in 2020, 60 yrs later? does nothing. Quit contradicting yourself by saying it's still alive and thriving one second then saying you need to use your imagination, it's not the place it once was, the next

Ceviche y pargo rojo!
Only in Mexico would you see spinners on a bus, that is one of the things I love about it.
nice video amigo👍👏👏👏
gracias amigo!
New subscribers love your videos! Question how long did it take you to drive from Mexico City to Acapulco? Or did you take a flight?
Hey thanks, I got flight there and back. I think driving would take about 8hrs but I could be wrong. I got bus to Taxco before and that took about 4
Happy birthday!!
Gracias Monica!
FN amazing
FN amazing indeed!
Greetings of san luis potoyeah man.
hey enrique i'll be back in SLP in May!
Bet weather very very nice over there high 80s or 70s
Yes it was in the 80s I guess, not too hot, this was in March 2019
Well done again my friend. Acapulco deserves this boost to it tarnesed reputation. Too much fear reporting going on, when the reality is much different. Nice music mix Hasta luego.
I have been to Puerto Vallarta and Sayulita, they are thriving and relatively safe. The locals are really nice and respectful to tourists. I've watched a documentary about the gangs and crime syndicates in Acapulco, they extort money from business owners otherwise they'll give them troubles and hard times that's why many investors and small business owners left the city or stopped doing business. Apparently, most police are involved in the extortion syndicate so it's deteriorating the situation and that's really sad.
yep absolutely, I still prefer Acapulco to PV though!
Right now I am in Tehuacan Puebla
i drove through there last year on the way to Oaxaca. Cactuses everywhere!
Nope it's not really my kind of place. I disliked vallarta and cancun big time
Playa del Carmen is 45 mins away from Cancun.
You are brave!
I think the dfanger thing is exaggerated! I haven't had any problems!
what are your top 3 places in Mexico?
OMG God knows. Mexico City, San Luis Potosi, Puebla, so far!
Great video amigo saludos just sub to ur channel love it. Acapulco. 🇲🇽 👍
Welcome amigo! Thanks!
Nice
I really like the music you're using 👍
60s james bond style wasn't the intention but it came out ok!
Si I should be in Monterrey in May or June!
Wow, I would have loved to have seen Acapulco in the 80s!
But enough of that , theres a serious email heading your way
lol i replied, it's an old scar from 1984!! on my forehead i mean!
Les sugiero un metro bus los resaltaria no sólo en el país sino también en el extranjero Saludos desde San Luis Potosí
David hotel Las Brisas is a must.... In it's heydays was name one of the top hotels in the world...
thanks man i thought about it but ended up doing the next two videos elsewhere! maybe next time!
Frank Sinatra had a home there. Tarzan lived and died there. My second home from 1962-2011. I speak Spanish as a second language, but I do not write it. Caleta is my favorite area.
The malls in Acapulco are nice
I'm in one now!
visit the port of veracruz you will see the same sort of dilapidated place but it still has a lot of personality.
thanks for the suggestion amigo!
I love Acapulco, and real estate is a bargain.
I'm from there brother and yes military and national guard took over because cops where so corrupt and they want tourists to comeback and btw there's a lot of afro Mexicans there to be safe brother
thanks man, i mention your point in the next video (haven't edited it yet)
Its lot like Honduras where I went lot in 1990s
Actually you must go to Cuatzalan, Puebla or Xalapa, Veracruz. You'll love those places.
Thanks Adrian, more places to add to my list!
P.S. Another famous movie made in Acapulco besides Fun in Acapulco (1963) with Elvis was "El Sube y Baja" (1958) with Mario Moreno "Cantinflas." Those movies really give you the feel of how it was back in the glory days of Acapulco.
thanks for the suggestions! There's another 2 videos but they are more birthday themed, One is up in L Laja talking about safety etc
"Deterioration"...accurately explains what I see.
Absolutely becca! It was really sad seeing all those deserted hotels in such a beautiful area.
Acapulco used to be Mexico’s paradise. It sad to see what it has become. Puerto Vallarta is now stealing that title. I hope one day Acapulco becomes what was in the past.
It's funny, I really dislike PV. There's nothing special there in comparison to Acapulco IMO
Really? I heard PV is number one gay spot in Mexico right now. All my gay friends come back inloved with that place. I’d never been to PV.
@@findingmemo322 I'm not gay though lol
I swear hun it's the most beautiful bay ever, had a great sunset last night for my birthday meal #acapulcoepisode4
2:30 Hey, the chic behind you was looking to make some money
Acapulco used to be famous back then, my parent had their honey moon there back in the early 80's, but now it went down Hill
Great point Rob, I talk about your point on extortion in th enext video (I haven't edited it yet)
@@davidostrowski679 Wait to post about that until your are gone.
@@robnyc5461 yep, it won't be up until Sunday at least, best to be safe!
I prefer oaxaca .zipolite
Oh great, another place to add to my list! jaja
I think it's gorgous city
Seriously, im happy nothing happened while you were at the "zocalo", too may killings there, righ next to the Church.
Interesting, the next video was filmed in La Laja, didn't have any problems. I haven't edited it yet!
oh, come on..la laja? even i avoid going there. Anyway cool videos! keep it up after this trip to Acapulco you are ready to go and survive anywhere @@davidostrowski679
Looks like things be very cheap there
what does imagining what it was like for the stars of the 60s do for me in 2020, 60 yrs later? does nothing. Quit contradicting yourself by saying it's still alive and thriving one second then saying you need to use your imagination, it's not the place it once was, the next
I don't recommend it i still get that vibe of danger not putting my life on the line nope not me sorry.
Definitely some areas felt a bit ropey but overall I didn't have a negative experience.
El nuevo gobierno acaba de anunciar una inversión millonaria para mejorar Acapulco. Quiere que vuelva a tener el mismo brilló de antes.
¡Eso suena como una buena decisión!
