  • Ron Shock's style of story telling is a gut busting experience. His live stand-up comedy is the perfection of the sense of timing and delivery that is reminiscent of Will Rogers. I produced this segment from Ron's appearance at the "Comedy in the Park" in Sutter Creek, California.

    Ron Shock has appeared on:

"The Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson
    "The Joan Rivers Show"
His own ShowTime special "Bad Gig Blues"
"Into the Night" with Rick Dees
A&E's "An Evening at the Improv"
    Fox's "Comic Strip Live"
    ShowTime's "All Stars"
    "Caroline's Comedy Hour"

    reviews:
    "A NATIONAL TREASURE...
    THE FUNNIEST MAN EVER."
    Guy Richardson,
    Reno Gazette
    "ONE OF THE HOTTEST COMICS
    IN SHOW BUSINESS."
    Entertainment Tonight
    "THE GREATEST AMERICAN STORYTELLER."

I met Ron in 1988, in Ozark Alabama at a Holiday Inn "comedy club". . .basically a bar that had comedians in every Thursday or whatever.
I never forgot him and loved him all the rest of his days. He sat and talked to me and my husband after his show for quite awhile.
He never got the accolades he deserved.
    (this is Mike's wife, btw)

I first saw Ron on 4:20 comedy Hour with Tom Rhodes and Doug Benson. By the time I became Facebook Friends with he and his wife, it was towards the end of his battle with Cancer. He made me feel as if he was talking directly to me. Now he is one of my comedy heroes. Ron and his wife are Wonderful people. I wish I had gotten a chance to meet him in person. RIP Ron Shock.

Me too. I watched a Hicks interview to try to learn more about him and Hicks mentioned Shock. I hate to admit that I like Shock more than Hicks. Funny Shock didn’t mention Ron White who I thought came out of Houston as well.

I got to see Ron live at the Comedy Corner in 1995 or so. I don't think I've laughed as hard before or since, and having done some standup myself I'm a bit jaded.
"Glad to be here in Colorado Springs- unfortunately I had to drive across Kansas to get here. At night. This is the scenic way to cross Kansas... recommended by the AAA. You do not want to drive across Kansas in the daytime, it will suck. The soul. Right out of you."

This. Man. Is. Hilarious. I really enjoyed him. It also pisses me off a little. There are some "comedians" living in million dollar mansions, well known to all who are horrible at their job and got to where they are by being back handed or simply over commercialized. Then you have this guy who I would have loved to know a lot sooner. Each new generation has their favorites but comedy is timeless. As long as we capture it first. Example: Bill Hicks died so young, most of his stuff was taped when I was just a baby or before I was alive but I love it and appreciate that it was captured so I could. I wish more video of Mr. Shock was around.

Saw him at the Comedy Workshop in the 1980's. He was pretty dang funny. He watched a lot of baseball on TV. Never ate all the food on his plate and never fucked around on his Old Lady while he was on the road. Did acid with him in Antlelope Valley during a meteor shower in the 1990's.

I just saw Ron Shock on a re-run of the Johnny Carson Tonight Show! I had to see if he was on you tube. Well, of course. This guy was so funny. I don't understand why he wasn't HUGE in the entertainment field. Like those from SNL. Must have been some political thing. Anyway, I as so sorry he's gone.. RIP, Ron. Mr. Comedy in my books.

I love the moments when he's so wrapped up in his own joke that he seems to lose control of his body, like 47:00.
It's a pity his stuff is so hard to find in any kind of collected form; this is about as good as it gets. Maybe he got into it late and just didn't have that much material? If anyone bothered for him like they did for, say, Louis CK, he'd be a superstar in Vegas. Louis has his moments, but Ron - if only for the duration of what little of his stuff is out there - is just better.
