Academy Award® winner Emma Stone (“La La Land”) stars in Disney’s “Cruella,” an all-new live-action feature film about the rebellious early days of one of cinemas most notorious - and notoriously fashionable - villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil. “Cruella,” which is set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, follows a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets. I honestly didn’t think so really, I knew she could pull it off, but I didn’t necessarily think she was perfect for it. She’s really still out selling in these trailers, and it’s cool.
Glenn Close (Who played Cruella in the live-action 101 Dalmatians movies) was heavily involved in the making of this film and it really shows because this feels like Cruella. If anyone has a clear 100% understanding of what makes a great Cruella, it is obviously Glenn Close.
And as shown by the poster, Glenn Close is serving as the executive producer of the movie alongside Emma Stone.

0:20 the line all people waited to hear.
I was worried when they announced this they’d try to give her a sympathetic backstory and a semi-righteous motivation for her actions. One of the most compelling parts about Cruella was that she was the only Disney villain who was essentially un redeemable, simply having a desire to skin puppies for personal gain, while one could argue that other villains were robbed of something (Scar, Jafar, Yzma, Hades, and Ursula of power, Maleficent and the Evil Queen of love/acceptance, Hook of a childhood, etc.). But, especially after seeing this trailer, the movie seems like it will be so much better. They aren’t trying to justify her deeds, rather, show that she was given the chance to be good as “Estella” but made the conscious choice to be cruel and wicked. Incredibly excited to see what they’ll do with that dichotomy.
To an extent they do in the film. I read the novelization. But the film really isn't what people expect and the sympathetic parts they give her are things that anyone could sympathize with and have not much to do with the dalmations (dont wanna give too much away). It isn't so much of a film about her wanting sympathy, as it is about two villians duking it out to see who's the most villanous, and we find out twists along the way that help us sympathize with cruellas revenge. Its a revenge film.
It’s just a movie. It’s entertainment. And wether you feel “sympathy” or not, and the end of the day... who really gives a shit?

Everyones been saying she deserves no sympathy cus she wants to skin puppies, but the thing is this film doesn't portray her like that at all. She doesn't actually wanna hurt the dogs at all. And the things we sympathizs with her on just simply add to why she turned evil and why we want her to beat the baroness, but not to overshadow the fact that she is evil. Like even tho we do sympathize with her a lil, cruella still basically shows that she loves being evil
The scene when she was a girl with the black and white hair reminds me of maddie ziegler as sia in the latter's music video
Honestly I would love Sia to be featured in an upcoming soundtrack of Cruella or maybe make like a music video cuz I would love to see her wear a black and white wig.

Disney did yet again pull a “misunderstood villian” , where her own mother killed her adoptive mother , girl got bullied for her daring , eccentric fashion sense. did u even finish the movie properly ? She did not kill the animals, in fact, she was “proved” as an animal lover since she manage to train the Dalmatian that killed her mother in the end, that is saying a lot. She let the tabloid run with the puppy killer . It is nothing to the original villain we know that is purely evil , skinning dogs for coats. A lot of people expecting this would not be “a misunderstood story or sob story” because U can’t just make or justify her characteristics. Mind you, the actresses carried the movie, just the story and the screenplay is just stupid.

Cruella is Disney's best live action yet, and you can see how much they've improved since a badly written character like Maleficent. Cruella's story isn't one for redemption, it's to show HOW she started off as the lunatic she is. Growing up thinking her mother was always kind and sweet, she forced herself to be that way as well; but as you can see she ends up failing. After realizing who she REALLY is, she frames her true mother for MURDER and sends her to jail. Nobody becomes a villain spontaneously, it takes trauma and pain.

And she proved to be a dog lover as well, which hence the op comment , is nothing like the scary villain that we know, who skins puppies for their fur, and be terribly mean to her staff and all. Cruella is just nice deep down, just a lil bit crazy, and Disney wanted us to feel sorry cause of her tragic past and her lineage.

That's the right path for Disney to walk upon. If Disney wanted to remake the animation movies again in real live action form they have to tell the stories of other characters or tell the story from other angles not just do it frame by frame like what happened with lione king.

As much as I like Emma Stones which by the way she is a great actress Eva Green would have been a better choice in my opinion not saying that Emma was a bad choice I mean she is great and she is doing real good as Cruella. But Eva she would have been 100 times better and she would literally slay the role as Cruella considering that she's actually British and she have the look of a Disney villain.

Emma Stone is a genius! Love her as Cruella. I agree that there are a lot of Disney villains that need their own backstory movie. Dr. Doofenshmirtz, Hades, Ursula. And I know this is a bit of a stretch but I would love to see a Live Action of Hunchback of Notre Dame but stay true to the animated version and a little bit of the book without the sad ending like the musical they butchered. But I'm so excited for this movie and write about it on my Blog.

I read the novelization. Yes, the film does have us sympathize for Cruella. Before you get mad, hear me out. It's not in ways you may expect. Meaning, it has virtually nothing to do with the dalmations or skinning dogs or anything like that. If anything the things we sympathize with estella over are things *anyone* would sympathize with her over regardless of who the person is. And rather then having it laid out straight, these things are revealed as twists throughout the story (rather then immediate like maleficent). Besides that though, cruella is shown as a full villian, and the film is essentially two villians duking it out to see which one comes out as the most villianous.
