That's not quite right. There are no "types of Ukrainians". All senior Ukrainians were influenced by the Soviet past, which is natural. Some senior citizens still repeat the "history" they learnt in Soviet schools. It doesn't make them "a type" It makes them a psychologically rigid age cohort . For those who think this is a mere regional conflict, remember that Russia looks at the rest of the world in the same way. If Ukraine falls, then Poland and the Baltic states being NATO members will be seen as the next intolerable provocation to which Russia "must" respond. With the influence that Russian propaganda exerts over the right wing blogosphere, we can count on Tucker Carlson and others to blame Poland for leaving the Warsaw Pact and making Russian aggression entirely their fault.

    • @ganich73
      @ganich73 3 дня назад +12

Actually Putin already re-defined the causes of WWII - it was a Poland's provocation of Hitler to start the war. And top it up ... "mr lavrov" added that Hitler was a having a jewish blood (which, I assume, in the eyes of lavrov excuse Hitler from being antisemite). and somehow, tucker conveniently forgot to ask lavrov about that during the recent visit to Moscow.

@@stuartwray6175 Based on the provided search results, there is no direct answer to the question “how many Russians were killed by Banderites in Donbass”. The search results do not provide a specific number or breakdown of Russian casualties attributed to Banderites or Ukrainian forces in Donbass.
However, some points can be gleaned from the search results:
The conflict in Donbass is a complex and multifaceted one, involving various groups and forces, including Ukrainian government forces, Russian-backed separatists, and foreign volunteers like the Task Force Rusich: A Russian neo-Nazi paramilitary group
The term “Banderites” is often used pejoratively by Russian sources to describe Ukrainian nationalists, including those affiliated with the Azov Battalion, who have been involved in the conflict.
The search results do not provide any evidence of a specific massacre or incident where Russians were killed solely by Banderites in Donbass.
The overall death toll in the conflict befor the russian invasion was
      Total Deaths:both sides 14,200-14,400 killed (April 2014 - December 2021)
      Civilian Deaths:both sides 3,404 killed (April 2014 - December 2021)
      Ukrainian Forces: 4,400 killed (April 2014 - December 2021)
      Pro-Russian Forces: 6,500 killed (April 2014 - December 2021)
the death toll in Donbass, after the Russian invasion including both military and civilian casualties,, is estimated to be around 14,200-14,400 (according to some sources) or up to 1,000,000 (estimated) by mid-September 2024 (according to another source).
The Russian military and Wagner PMC have reported significant losses, with estimates ranging from 120,506-174,064 Russian servicemen and contractors killed by mid-November 2024 (according to the BBC) or 20,000 Wagner PMC troops killed by May 25, 2023 (according to Yevgeny Prigozhin).
In conclusion, without further information or specific data, it is not possible to provide a definitive answer to the question of how many Russians were killed by Banderites in Donbass. The conflict is complex, and casualties have been reported on both sides, but there is no evidence to suggest a specific massacre or incident attributed solely to Banderites.

    Dear Professor Snyder,
Thank you for sharing your valuable insights. I have a few ethical questions regarding the Soviet occupation of Bessarabia in 1940 and the experiences of the German Bessarabians. I’m reaching out to understand the connection between my growing compassion for my grandparents' plight during World War II and the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, and how this historical context shapes my perspective today.
How would the Soviet occupation and the displacement of the German Bessarabians in 1940 be regarded today if modern international laws-particularly those concerning occupation, human rights, and genocide-had been in place at the time?
In what ways did the occupation of Bessarabia differ from the Russian invasion of Ukraine today? While the Hitler-Stalin Pact was a non-aggression agreement, how non-aggressive was it to forcibly change the nationality of a population?
Did the German Bessarabians, who were primarily of German descent at that time but not of German nationality, have valid reasons to fear living under Stalin’s regime? What might have happened if they had stayed in Bessarabia? Were there legitimate reasons to fear being sent to the Gulag, starved, or subjected to sexual violence, as was often the case for other populations under Soviet occupation? How would the Soviet soldiers, who came to occupy what was then Romania, have known whether the individuals they saw working the land were of German descent or Romanian descent? Could the German Bessarabians have lived peacefully under Soviet rule? Up until 1940 and their resettlement (I believe they were Romanian citizens until then), would they be considered victims or perpetrators?
Were the years of displacement, resettlement to Chemnitz, where they could no longer work as farmers, harsh living conditions, and loss of property adequately addressed after the war? If not, was this seen as part of the punishment for being perceived as complicit with the Nazi regime? What I am trying to understand is: up to which point were they victims, and from which point on did they become perpetrators-whether through active participation, complicity, or association?
Additionally, as the sister of a late brother who had an intellectual disability and an incurable form of epilepsy, I find it difficult to reconcile the legacy of the Nazi doctors and nurses who were not punished for their crimes after postwar Germany. This adds to my confusion regarding my identity, and I seek understanding: am I the grandchild of perpetrators and the sister of a victim group of the Nazi regime? If I’m indeed the grandchild of the perpetrators, I apologize on their behalf. I’ve done my best throughout my life to distance myself from that legacy. One proof of this is that I’ve never tried to “Germanize” anyone; instead, I’ve written most of my texts in English and taught English as a second language. I've strived to build friendships and collegial relationships with Jewish people and individuals from other cultures.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
    Sincerely,
    S.K.

Timothy Snyder’s Bloodlands: Right-wing propaganda disguised as historical scholarship - Part One
The false presentation of the Soviet famine as a “deliberate” policy of mass murder
      Clara Weiss@claraweiss_wsws
      1 December 2022
[PART ONE] [PART TWO] [PART THREE] [PART FOUR] [PART FIVE] [TIMELINE]
This is part one of a five-part review of Timothy Snyder’s book Bloodlands. There is also an accompanying timeline reviewing the critical historical background.
Unless otherwise indicated, all page references are to Timothy Snyder, Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin, 2nd edition, New York: Basic Books, 2022.
      Introduction
In April, Basic Books published a second edition of Timothy Snyder’s 2010 book Bloodlands, advertising it as the “essential historical background to the war in Ukraine.” The extraordinary role that Snyder is playing in justifying the imperialist proxy war against Russia in Ukraine and the alliance of US imperialism with the Ukrainian far right make it imperative to investigate this work more closely.
Since the beginning of the war in February, Snyder has appeared countless times on television, has published multiple pieces in the New York Times and the New York Review of Books and has spoken at numerous academic events. In his appearances, Twitter threads and other writings, he has buttressed US imperialist war propaganda against Russia with historical distortions and lies, ranging from false claims of “genocide” to an alleged “hunger plan” by Putin and the existence of a “fascist regime” in Russia. As the WSWS has documented, his Twitter threads have repeatedly sought to deny or downplay the role of Ukrainian fascists both in contemporary Ukrainian politics and the army and in the annihilation of 900,000 Ukrainian Jews during the Nazi-led Holocaust in World War II.
Most of Snyder’s current war propaganda relies on Bloodlands. At the heart of Bloodlands is the claim that the crimes of Nazism in Europe were a response to the crimes of Stalin in Soviet Ukraine in 1932-1933, which “began Europe’s era of mass killing” (p. vii), and the “national terror” that Stalin allegedly launched against Poles in the Soviet Union in 1937-1938.

This. Unfortunately most people are not educated about this triggerword enough to understand it, neither enough media literacy to understand what is really going on, at least outside "Eastern" Europe. Both "west" and "east" people repeat whatever they hear from their peers without actually having a clue.
Ex.g. i surely will trigger many if i say that Israel has not demonstrated intent - the main condition - for genocide, while HAMAS and MB regime state it openly in the first chapter of their constitution. Without going into that further, the public discourse online (be it from US, Asia or wide range of political groups) about both of these wars is literary turned on it's head, ignoring facts and definitions of words. So we need people like mr. Snyder more than ever to put at least one part (the largest war since WW2) into a clear perspective. I can't thank him enough for his work, surely history will remember him as a heroe of this informational and hybrid war we're in.

It is very different. The Russians consider the people on those territories to be theirs. Netanyahu considers the people on those territories to be vermin. Ukraine is this struggle by the West to remake it in the image of the exiles of the Canadian prairie, the OUN-B vision, and there's a whole series of core beliefs there. The people of Mariupol, etc, always considered themselves part of the Russian world. They speak Russian and that's their culture. Those people had to be changed. Obviously, they can't if Russia takes over the territory.

The people of the Greater Middle East, including the Levant (most of whom are Semites, and the followers of Abrahamic religions) have been divided and ruled over by outsiders for centuries. *Because it is easier to divide people based on personal differences, than it is to unite them, based on what they have in common.* Strategically ambiguous outsiders make use of this, for own advantages. In the era of empires, first Rome/Constantinople, then during WW1 the seat of POWER playing these games changed to London/Paris (Sykes-Picot/Balfour Declaration/WW1), then after the 1950's as European colonialism's power decreased, starting around the time a bark by Washington DC in 1956 (Suez Crisis/War) showed who the new boss was, the role of divider was simply taken over by Washington DC (the entire ME was the playground during the Cold War). Now the intention is simply to avoid unity in the ME, in order to _rule over the dissent_ which is classical divide-and-rule. Today, their leaders are ALL tools. Draw lines on the map without asking any of those affected. Exploit and foster endless wars, meddle for constant dissent.
*Divide-and-rule connects the dots on the timeline of history.*
Who has had (in all historical cases in the ME/Levant) the GEOGRAPHICAL ADVANTAGE of distance from the events resulting out of the own meddling and political activities, being able to reach all the other regions, but could not be reached itself as hegemony, at any given point of a historical timeline? Pax Romana, Rome. Pax Britannica, London. Pax Americana, Washington DC. All they ever wanted was *pax,* because they said so, but who picks up the *pieces of great wealth and the systemic gains* when all the others can be avoided from uniting?
*Different Empires. Different era. Same games...*
    -------------------------------------
The people of the Africa have been divided and ruled over by outsiders for centuries. Tribalism makes it easy to divide people, then keep them poor under the "kind foot" of exploitation. In the era of empires, first Rome/Constantinople in North Africa, then during the era of Western imperialism the seat of POWER playing these games changed to the USA/Europe, then after the 1950's as European colonialism's power decreased, Africa was the playground during the Cold War. Once the dividers had reached peak power for themselves, by simply drawing lines on the map without asking any of those affected (Congo Conference/1884) the own systems of gain could siphon off wealth like a giant vacuum cleaner. The intention was simply to avoid unity in Africa, in order to _rule over the dissent_ which is classical divide-and-rule. During the Cold War, Moscow took on the role of arming the resistance to the colonial dividers. Today, all African dissenters fighting against unity, including some of Africa's own greedy corrupt leaders, are ALL tools. Endless wars, constant dissent.
_Give the weak mind money, and they will dance for the outside dividers..._
    *Divide-and-rule.*
    Oldest trick in the book...
Different people and systems. Different places on the map. Same games.
    --------------------------------------
The people of the Americas, including the USA, have been divided and ruled over by outsiders for centuries. In the beginning stages of era of European Imperialism, first Spain and Portugal entered the Americas, employing the divide-and-rule technique of top-down power on the local systems (Aztecs/Incas), and as European colonial powers' influence decreased during the 19th century, the role of divider was simply taken over by Washington DC. As the own power increased incrementally, the entire world became the playground after around 1900. Today, it is the globalists who employ imperialist tools to play divide-and-rule games on their neighbours.
*Forget nukes. The divide-and-control/rule/conquer strategy is the most powerful force on the planet, because it can be employed equally in times of peace to CONTROL, in times of crises to RULE, and in times of war to CONQUER.*
Ever since the two-faced snake slithered down that tree of unity (fable), speaking out of both sides of the mouth (lies, deceit), the wisest human beings have fruitlessly warned, and the easily divisable have continuously been warned against divisions within a peaceful status quo. When you bow to the division caused by deception, you will lose the good life..."and much that once was, is lost; for none now live who remember it." Such divisions create GAIN for OUTSIDERS (Eden as a system divided by lies and deceit).
Now the intention is simply to avoid unity in the Americas, in order to rule over the dissent which is classical divide-and-rule. Endless wars on anything and everything from "drugs" to "terror" (sic.), constant dissent with everything's a war war war...
Insert levers of lies, mistrust. The *two-party-duopoly* is two cheeks of the same golden hind which set out to create favourites: Favouritism, by granting access to the own POWER/WEALTH, to those who volunteer to act as proxies and extensions for the own power projection. The small picture lives of domestic political chaos, of the big picture reality of international insanity. Point the systemic (MSM) finger, everywhere else, by use of the own paid stooges of power by presenting their deep state-orchestrated three-letter-agency astroturfed violence on multiple tiers as being the reactions of "the poor oppressed people, who need our help for freedom and democracy" (sic.). Liars, deceivers, creators of the BLACK LEGEND for the "other side".
*In February 1948, George F. Kennan's Policy Planning Staff said: "[W]e have about 50% of the world's wealth but only 6.3% of its population. ... Our real task in the coming period is to devise a pattern of relationships which will permit us to maintain this position of disparity."* Kennan: A prototype GLOBALIST. And that is what they did to increase their own wealth. Set up people against each other, then siphon off the wealth of entire regions of the planet.
*And that is what you are fighting for. That is what the hegemon has always done, pretending to be the "good pax", but playing "good cop/bad cop" with the world, from a position of power.* In the past, the "good cops" were the INTERNATIONALISTS, and the "bad cops" were the IMPERIALISTS. In the present that has morphed into the "good cops" being the GLOBALISTS/NEOLIBS, and the "bad cops" being the NEOCONS. Name-branding and doublespeak for the slumberland plebs, enchanted by their "bread-and-circuses"-existences.
America's friends and self-proclaimed default rivals in Eurasia are still being burnt to ensure this disparity continues, with a (quote) "pattern of relationships" which are beneficial to the own rule. Set up European and Eurasian nations (including the Middle East/North Africa) against each other. It is how divide-and-rule is implemented. The imperialist playbook of Great Britain and the USA for more than 100 years. Read Halford Mackinder (Pivot of History, 1904) and Zbigniew Brzezinski (Grand Chessboard, 1997) regarding Eurasia for the template. Read W.T. Stead (Americanization of the World, 1901) for the guideline of political-, cultural- and economic capture. Read Smedley-Butler (War is a Racket) for the modus operandi of imperialism/militarism.
Some say Europe is a divine goddess. I say, it is a humble apple tree, from an allegory as old as modern civilizations, because it is easy to divide.
    *Divide and Rule.*
    Oldest trick in the book...
Four corners of the globe. Different cultures and religions. Same games.
    THE LINK OF THE WORLD.
The entire system they favor in the USA/collective West is based on a pre-set *managed and moderated division,* for the benefit of a very few at the top of the pyramids accompanied by the often-repeated nice-sounding storyline. Create the script of the own heroes. Their entire scripted money-funded history sounds like a Hollywood superhero movie that sounds too good to be true. Guess what? It is. It is what they are NOT telling you, that they try to hide.
Who wields the POWER? Who has had the GEOGRAPHICAL ADVANTAGE of being able to reach all the other little buck catchers (tools, and other Roman-era style instruments of POWER), but could not be reached itself, because of a geographical-, technological-, organizational-, military-, strategic-, political advantage at any given point of a historical timeline? Create the default rival/enemy on their own marching routes. It is usually the power most likely to succeed which is determined as the default rival/enemy. Notice how, as soon as a rival starts mass-producing products high up in the value chain of capitalism, and starts vying for markets, and becomes successful, it immediately becomes the systemic rival, and is then geopolitically encircled by the greater empire. It happened around 1900, as Germany started building high-value products, and it happened around 2000, as China started moving away from building cheap toys and labor intensive kitchen appliances...
The games start on the home turf. The first victims are their own people in the USA/collective West, locked in the eternal struggle for wealth and personal gain which they have been deceived into thinking is "good greed", but which WILL be exploited by the snakes who deceive them on the domestic tier of the divide-and-rule system of power. Because ..."most of the great problems we face are caused by politicians creating solutions to problems they created in the first place." - Walter E. Williams
*War is a great **_divider._** It goes straight through the heads of millions and billions of people from the very top tiers, right down to the individual level. War divides alignments and alliances, goes straight through organizations, divides political parties, tears through families, and finally at the very bottom tier, goes straight through individual hearts and minds as individuals struggle with themselves.*

Both, in Gaza and in Ukraine are ongoing genocides. Gaza is times more obvious and the country who is committing it has stronger "rules not applying to them". Literally, they have no limits and no foreign power who are able to deter the ongoing atrocities. They also have been supported and armed by the US and the volume of suffering is fortified to times more, it is hard to count.
I support Ukraine. But there's no justice when we have different rules for different countries. That is hypocrisy that shows how serious we are about said rules to begin with. Maybe if we were serious about our laws, not just GAZA didn't happen, but Ukraine either. Somehow, I believe, it makes a big difference if we live up to our "values" and laws we created to make the world a better place. The world a better place, not just "parts of the world I care". Maybe hypocrisy is a sign that rulles are "flexible" and we are not serious. It is a corrupted "value" system. When something is corrupted, it decays. When something is corrupted, it is hard, sometimes impossible to change.

We have to fix corruption that includes our own hypocrisies. No matter what country or how powerful the corrupt system/people are. We all matter.

The political system. Some systems are behind saving. Maybe even the GOP should choose an other name and remake themselves.

Is the mention of ``liberating the territory (from it's rightful owner)`` like the Russian are saying all the time could be considered as a genocidal intend? this video need more view.

Genocide is a Ukrainian specialty and could affect Russians living there, just as it once did Poles. It was a mistake to create a fiction about the existence of a Ukrainian nation, based on the cult of the perpetrators of genocide.

We probably should have seen thos coming in the pre-Putin era as Yeltsin's Russia were quite happy to support Serbia despite its openly genocidal conduct throughout the 1990s.
Russia only complained when NATO took action to prevent further Serb war crimes 🤷🏻‍♂️

This is a typical cherrypicking. Using the same rhetoric anyone can prove that any side in a war conflict commits a genocide.

A rather robust case condemning Russian state that is responsible for socio economic development and long term gestation of Ukraine. Put it bluntly no Russia no Ukraine as it is a rather large land mass devoid of any capacity for self determination. Now some valid points adducing Russia's cursory interest in Ukraine's well being prosecuting this war. It may well be the case that some measures taken by Moscow to trounce the enemy well qualify for genocide. Unfortunately at least some of it was precipitated by Maidan uprising which disseminated to other parts of the country. With attrocities commited against minorities on Ukrainian territory, which incidently is genesis of this war. As this new regime lacked proper powers to modulate daily life across the board allowing this Donbass issue to fester until Russia's gratuitous response escalating the civil war into an inter state conflict. As that unfolds one is more that aware that Ukraine is responsible for the above too. Neither country has demonstrated a thorough compliance with international humanitarian law.

I find Western logic surreal. When there is genocide you don’t say it such as what’s happening in the Middle East where it’s clearer than a sunny day.
Where there is no genocide, you shout out empty words. How can we take this people seriously after what we see in the Middle East?

Check his points, nothing like that in Israel.
If Ukraine was as strong as Israel in defending itself you'd cry about Kursk region, blame Ukraine on Moscow invasion.

@ If you don’t want to open you’re eyes, the fault don’t fall on me. In the Middle East every single internar organization and many countries with nothing to gain are telling the whole world to stop the massacre. Compare this how they handle the Eastern Europe. Why is that? Because they see it by what it really is and they contrast the stakeholders action with what they say and do in the Middle East. See the difference?
