It's a spurious badge put on by someone else. M-Sport wasn't even a thing in 1998. (It's registered as a 328i Sport (no M). And genuine M badge reds and blues don't go flat like the one on your boot. But, all the other M decals like on the door mouldings, gear knob and steering wheel base are actually all correct for this car. It's just the one on the boot you need to lose.
have a 2016 cors edition it would t fit and does t make a sense to put a opc badge on it.same with bmw if you have a m performance you can put a M performance badge if it is t a M bmw than don t put it a M badge on it mi opnion
Yes the badge was put on by someone else... But as I mentioned in my other comment probably because it is a 328i sport which came with mtec stuff like suspension etc hence they thought the extra badge would reinforce the point.. Even though it had m badges from the factory on the side..
@@owensteele1274 I think the rear badge maybe genuine as the older M cars like the e12, e24 and e34 had these flatter type... The more common ones which we all know now.. which are more rounded came out later
my neighbour has a e60 530d and hes taken the 30d badges off and put an m badge in front of the 5 thats still there so now it says "M5" when my mates come round they always giggle at it what a tit.
Yeah definitely 👍🏼 The small m performance badge is factory and fine to be left just the M on the boot has to go. Plus there I a Instagram page calling out fake M badging so don’t want to be placed on the feed of shame.
@@ryanhall8490 rubbish.. those guys have no life. I watched one where this guy was driving a deadbeat old Mercedes’ and calling out a guy in a nice white BMW X6 which happened to have M badge on the boot. He almost caused a crash. The x6 is way more expensive than his car but he has the guts disturbing the guy as if the M badge is somehow affecting his life.. the BMW X6 btw was an m sport which came with m badges so I don’t see the problem adding one more aftermarket badge . Like adding an exhaust or mapping one’s car to sound different.
Don’t see your point of view that is something totally different the Instagram page is just pics not actually abusing individuals. Also price has nothing to do with anything my BM is a 3 series not an M3 unfortunately and I personally would feel silly sporting an M badge on my vehicle.
@@ryanhall8490 I saw the videos on the insta , this guy was chasing a BMW X6 driver yelling abuse at him. Douche bag all because of m badge . Meanwhile the dude driving the x6 had a nicer car and the guy so obsessed with the m badge has a crappy old car …
As I work for BMW Engineering here in NJ you go. The blue in the BMW M logo represents BMW and its home in the Bavarian region in Germany The purple in the BMW M logo represents the transition and collaboration between the colors blue and red The red in the BMW M logo represents the partnership of BMW and Texaco, an American oil brand, in the early ages of BMW Motorsport. When the collaboration between the two ended, BMW bought out the rights to the color red from Texaco.
I’d definitely take it off. The ever-increasing use of the M badge is just a cynical marketing ploy by BMW. We’re also seeing it more with the use of the AMG logo on some Mercedes. If it’s been stuck on by a previous owner then that’s even worse. However it got on there, if it’s not a true M car then I’d want it off.
Couldn't agree more... First time I really paid attention to this was a few years ago when my brother proudly came around to mine with his brand new A-180 AMG... It has a Renault 1.5dci engine, wouldn't pull the sheet off a bed, and that car has no right to wear an AMG badge. I'm not even a Mercedes fan by any standards but I just think it's insulting the history of these brands the way the badges are used as a trim level these days, it used to mean something!
Well tough. If Mercedes’ put it there and they are the creator then no one cares about your feelings about it. They know about branding than we do and it’s what it is . Why de badge a car if it’s how the manufacturer made it
Coming from a guy who owns a E36 and a e92m. BMW has changed the m climate. there was a time that putting an m badge on a non-m car was looked down upon. Although I would agree, BMW will place an m badge on any BMW car made today. It has become so much of a marketing symbol you see it almost on every vehicle and can be added as a sticker somewhere on the steering wheel rocker panel of just about every model produced.
I put an M badge on the back of my car. I have an E60 530d Msport and despite it having the M badge on the wheels, steering wheel and the door sills from factory, it’s still frowned upon by the BMW hitler brigade. I understand how silly it would look on a 318se but if your car says M on your V5 then keep the badge on it!
Hi ..There is a web site "Baby BMW" that take photos and shame cars that M badge themselves when they're not. Apparently a big no no unless it's an M3 M4 or M135i .. If you have say a 328i M Sport leave it without, you'll just look a numpty with an M on the back, even adding M to the model badge is also a no no...My advice take the fake M off and put model badge back on.
Do what you prefer. Don't know why anyone would care what anyone else does with their own car. My 120D isn't M sport but i put a couple of snall ones in the interior and it looked pretty nice. If anyone doesn't like it, that's their problem.
100% has to be off. All badges on the rear of beemers should be off unless it's a genuine M3 etc. First thing I did to my 330 M was get the badges off!!
I’ve debadged my E46 M3, there’s enough tell tale signs for people in the know (quad exhaust, wider track and bulged body panels, front wing grills)... doesn’t need an M3 badge on for me, looks cleaner without
Depends on the car - there are M-Sport versions of normal cars and they are quite different cars. I have two E46 325i, one M-Sport, one not; the M-Sport is like a little go cart whereas the normal one is a comfy saloon. Real Ms, M3 for example, have the M-Sport variable slip differential to differentiate them from normal and M-Sport models (as well as the engine of course). If you go to your local dealer, give them your reg or VIN and they will identify whether or not it’s an M-Sport from factory in which case the badge is acceptable. Then replace your cooling system. I have an E36 328 cab that has had an M3 Evo rear axle / diff transplant, if you can do that your car will be transformed into something much more drivable. Make sure after any modification . . . or wash . . . or fill up . . . that you replace the cooling system. I have an M3 badge on my M3, but it also says CSL just after so I decided to leave it - I’ll deal with the cluttered look. M135i etc don’t have the diff unless ordered as an option so they’re quick but pretty crappy to drive. Yours looks really nice although the rear is suspiciously low. Anyway, it’s probably time you replaced the cooling system so be off with you. Some tips, always have spare cooling system parts to hand, particularly the water pump, never use non-BMW sensors, replace the rocker cover gasket, when you replace bearings (and you will) - replace the dust shields. Worth replacing the PAS pump. Did I mention replacing the cooling system? Lisle do a non-spill coolant funnel - get one; it’ll come in handy. Replace all the bushes, drop links front and rear, control arms and track rods. Get all arch rust treated right now as well as the panel just below the boot. Be careful with the nut tightening the front shock to the hub, set aside an hour or more to loosen it, anything quicker is a bonus.
The most common question people used to ask me when filling up with petrol in the Accord Type R was "Where did you get the Red Type R decals from because Honda didn't make a Type R Accord?" Some people knew what it was though. Usually older people, not the ricer kids in Civics.
If it is an m-sport model then the badge is fine. I personally prefer my cars de-badged as I think that they look better, I would de-badge an m3 for example. The Tri colour stripes I believe are as follows. The blue is to represent the Bavarian flag where BMW orginates, the red represents the early partnership with American oil company Texaco and the dark blue is a merge of the two colours to represent the two company's bonding together.
It's just up to the individual in my opinion just do what makes you happy! I have E90 320d M-Sport black carbon badges front and rear with matching M badge on boot/trunk and side wings/fenders don't really care what others think of it looks cool to me 👍
Do whatever makes you happy. Fuck what everyone else thinks. I have a 330ci with more power than an M3 and I don't have M badges or colors on my car. Don't need them. I got the power. My car came with M emblems on the wheels and steering wheel. The wheels are gone. I threw them away.
There's one on a mondeo diesel by me plus it has ever ford trim level badge on the boot as well ghia all the way to titanium x zetec every badge on the 1 boot lol
Off. I put an ebay m logo on the boot of my e36 318 when I got it. In my defense I was 23 and very excitable! After many years with nothing but the bmw badge on the boot and lots of paint imperfections, I've just recently had the whole boot lid resprayed and a shiny new bmw badge fitted. It's so much nicer clean and glossy.
I have a 2012 318i Sport Plus Edition with M everything...Wheels, full interior, steering wheel, gear knob, Suspension, Exterior body styling apart from the brakes...I bought it de-badged with a small M on the boot lid...Gonna replace it with another as the one currently on it has seen better days...I think it deserves to be there IMO...
I have 3 perspectives. If a base model was modded to look like a full M clone, that is fine with me. I think yours fits that description, looks fine. 2nd - It’s silly to just throw a badge on there without performance parts or upgrades. 3rd - I have a 535d M-Sport, but the only M logos are on the door sills and the steering wheel. I would never put an M badge on the back, because it’s not an M.
But it is an M. Your original wheels had the M badge also. Nothing wrong with adding another M badge regardless of the location. It would be different if you had an SE model then that would be silly.
Thesled I did forget about the wheels, but again my car is not an M. M cars are completely different than their non-M counterparts. Other than the cosmetic pieces, there’s no difference between my car and any other 535d. Same motor, same tuning. M counterparts on the other hand, have a different body, suspension, drivetrain, steering, brakes, computers and tuning (basically anything that has any affect on how the car drives). On top of that, the parts that make a M are not just random items from the BMW parts bins, they are designed, tested and tuned just for the M models. So, while my car may look similar to the M5, it is nowhere near the machine it is. The only thing the same between my car and M5 is some lighting, wire harnesses and some interior pieces like carpets, dash and parcel tray and various nuts & bolts. Everything else is different.
Your car has upgraded suspension lowered and stiffer, your motor is about 30bhp more than the se, you have upgraded bumpers and side skirts and you also have upgraded seats, steering wheel and head cloth. You have an M car! What the enthusiasts talk about are the Old 2002 beemers from the 70s and 80s that we’re stripped out race machines.
Thesled I understand enthusiasts, this is my 3rd bimmer. But my car is nit and can not be considered an M, just because it has a $3500 sport package. There are no M-Sport specific parts on my car in common with an M and much of that package is not unique to my car. There are 'Sport Package' cosmetic pieces, that don't really affect drivability. I don't have any interior pieces that weren't available for the other models. The suspension is stiffer, but the parts weren't designed for the 535 M-Sport edition. All the M-Sport suspension pieces are just BMW Parts bin items that are actually designed for other models. Also, wrt having more power, because it's an M-Sport, I have my doubts. The engine in the US 535d is actually the same Euro 530d (why, i don't know), and to my knowledge all US spec 535d's have the same engine and power. My friend got his 535d (no sport package) while he was in Germany, and his car makes way more power than mine. I think we'd refer to his car as a 540d if it were sold in the US, but not totally sure. He has a virtually identical interior except the M badge on the steering wheel and the door sill. I do have a higher speed limiter than him - oddly the Germans gave him a 135mph limit despite his need to drive the autobahn to work daily 🤷🏻♂️, while I have a 155mph speed limiter and a 65mph speed limit. But if you look at a real M5, and contrast it, every part the engine is specific to the M cars. The fenders and body panels are specific to the M5 and the interior is M5 only, (except for the steering wheel and door sills). Every suspension part, brake part and the entire driveline is specific to the M5. There's no overlap, it was designed and tested to perfection just for the M5, exclusive to that model. Even the "M" wheels on my car, aren't even used on an M5. The real M5 wheels are unique and much more upscale. That's why it gets a special designation. Everything else is just imitation, or marketing.
I’m not talking about your car being an M5. I’m talking about your car being an 535d Msport. I honestly think you are in denial. Firstly your car came from the factory with 7 M badges on it. 8 if you have the LCI model with the badge on the gear knob. Your cars log book will say M and your user manual and/or service booklet will say M. As for spec, your suspension is 5mm lower and stiffer over a standard SE. So you have an M. Your bumpers and side skirts are deeper than an SE so you have an M. Your power is vastly updated over an SE so you have an M. Yes the 535 uses the same 530d motor but you have 2 turbos, so guess what? You have an M. You will have black head cloth which the SE doesn’t have so you guessed it again, you have an M. You do have M specific parts. And your friends car should have had the 155 mph limiter just like yours and mine. If he has a 535d she then it has 282bhp as standard. Yours has 313bhp as standard. Trust me you drive an M
I'm my head, if its supposed to have one from factory then leave it on there. If not I'd take it off PERSONALLY. From memory they didn't have one. End of the day it's up to you Jon. **EDIT** You should put the 328 badge back on too ;)
Simply put - there are 2 types of BMW wearing an 'M' badge - genuine 'M cars' such as an M2/M3/M4 ......and 'M performance' cars such as a M140i/M850i. The latter, are essentially cars enhanced with M sport parts/accessories etc... from the M parts bin. The "M" represents the pinnacle of performance in the BMW stable and as a result, generally comes with a price tag to match. So IMHO any owners of cars not falling into either of these two categories but, wearing an M badge are either delusional, aspirational wannabes or both!!
My bmw m sport came with m badges on steering wheel , fender and even the Rim.. what do u suggest I should deface my car because u don’t like that bmw has an m sport cars? This is different from an M…
@@m2comp369 sorry that you feel like you have to share the M badge with others . Take that up with BmW who created the M sport trims and supplied it with M sport styling and badges. That’s not our problem !
@@sammyg805 You have misunderstood what I’m saying. The vid targets people using M badges on cars not belonging to either of the two categories - genuine M and M Sport cars. You seem to think I am against the latter - no I’m not! It’s people throwing these badges around like confetti on anything BMW is the issue.
Pfftttt! Obviously the blue represents the color of your face when your holding your breathe just before the mechanic tells you the bill after your warranty expired on your M3. Red? For the blood that will end up all over the place when you cut off you're right arm as payment. Purple? The color of every BMW owners bruised ego! 😆
I had a 2010, 320 M Sport Highline Coupe, it had no M badges and looked beautiful enough without them. Before that a 328i purple coupe it had all the fake AC Schnitzer wheels, badges, grills etc, I guess that was Chavvy! I was younger though..
I use an E92 335i N54 engine as my daily driver. Comes with m-sport suspension (lower springs and firm dampers) and also the m-sport seats with inflatable bolsters. I’ve added a tiny “m” badge (3D gel sticker) about 10mm wide, attached to the 3D gel number plate, unless you’re behind me at the traffic lights you wouldn’t notice it. Unless you’re a bmw fanatic most people don’t realise it’s 300bhp standard and currently running about 390bhp. Makes me cringe seeing a 318d with all the badges, and even worse the “AMG” line Mercs that arrive brand new with AMG badges everywhere. It’s devaluing the top hierarchy of monster engines/ vehicles putting these badges on a small engine hatchback.
I'm guessing that's s genuine 328i sport which is all original except for the wheels which seem to be of an e39 5 series and a M badge at the back instead of the 328i. For me it depends if you want to keep original....in that case put the original BBS 17inch wheels on and replace the rear badge, rest looks original. This generation of bmws and the older e30 used to has mtec sport versions that had extra badges (e30 on front grill) as they had m etc suspension and LSD etc as well as external changes and were almost filled the gap between standard and full on M cars like the M3. For me its your choice as it is a genuine mtec 328i sport hence the m tec mechanical upgrades from factory and if someone decided to remove the original 328i badge to replace with a M badge its not as bad as say someone doing it on a standard e36 316i 4 door with a big exhaust fitted as it is a genuine Mtec factory car. For newer BMW's I get confused what is actually a genuine M sport that has mtec parts that enhance the drive and sportiness or just added as they are a trim level.. of course we are not talking about the full blown M cars as they are clearly M3s etc..
Great video as always Jon. i think its okay to put the M badge on the back of an M Performance/Lite Car and obviously a proper M car. as for just M Sport variants of the non performance orientated cars i think you should not. you should leave the M badges on the wings (as my 2015 520D M sport has them from factory and i think they look fine, a nice touch) but because BMW doesnt put the M badges on the back of M Sport cars i think you should'nt its just that one step too far as the badges on the wings that they put on are a nice subtle touch. but if its an M Performance or full M car then i think thats fine !
An M badge on it's own isn't too bad, if it was an M3 badge then it'd be a different story, if you like it then keep it. One thing which slightly complicates it, is that some real M cars do just have the M on its own, e.g. my Z4M.
Absolutely No WAY, take it off. In my opinion the M badge should only be on the actual top performance M cars. I can't wait to see this cars journey. 👍
Mate, they diluted their own M branding so much that it doesn't make a huge amount of difference. That said, I'd pull off any M badge that wasn't there to start with.
I removed my ///M badge off my Z4 M Coupé when I first got it. Too much attention. Of course bimmer enthusiasts were in the anyway. Did the same to my current Q60S AWD Infiniti. No badges at all! Looks much cleaner with only the trunk logo.
Lovely Jubbly, it's just a matter of taste, if you like it keep it, if you don't remove it with a heat gun or fishing line then hope the paint isn't a different colour.
Nothing worse than a Chrysler badge being taken off and replaced with the Bentley "B" logo.. jeez, that is a major wannabe. Unless he paid Bentley money for a Chrysler and hasn't a clue he's been royally ripped off lol...
M badges also include m sport packaged cars like wheels suspension styling things like that not just engine power a bit like Mercedes with amg sports package.
Well I’ve got a e90 325i m sport with all the M sport bumpers interior all that kind of stuff also have M on the kicker plates from factory so I decided to put that same M logo on the boot and I got a load of stick for it but I couldn’t help but go on asking what is the issue it’s everywhere else on the car what damage is it doing on another part of the car. Not like I have M3 on the back or anything just M. What was funny though the people who have me load of abuse for it they had the basic SE models with no leather interior so... yeah after a few weeks after someone stole it off the boot which done me a favour in the end really because I was planning on taking it off anyway 😂
Add no badges to the car leave it how it came out the factory, if it had them from new then keep them. Otherwise it's like buying Halfords wax polish and putting a Bilt Hamber carnauba wax polish label on it. Well that's my opinion and im a G30 530d xdrive M sport owner.
Chavvy! An M badge on anything other than a full M car is just a sheep in wolf's clothing. If I put Porsche wheels on my Type R Civic can I put a 911 badge on the back? It's normally people who like the 'image' of a sports spec car but will never actually drive quick nor be able to afford a quick car. It's like the horrible 'ST-Line' trim from Ford.....
Beautiful motor mate,, I think a m badge is ok if you actually have m sport suspension and gearknob and steering wheel and sports seat otherwise it's not worthy
Chavvy.... why would you. There is the M Package and M Performance Models (I work for BMW in Munich). So no car should have it without the number, there are just one or two models which had it (was wrong before). The M on the sides just shows it has a M Package.
Yes so what's wrong with adding 1 more ? Chavvy has become too generalised as a label now. You don't need an M3/M5 etc to have an M badge. MSport trim level cars including Clubsport have M badges splashed all over them by factory. If owners want to add one more to hightlight that, there is zero reason why not.
Bimmer Clubsport we’re referring to cars that are not m cars for eg an m140i & an m3 m4 m550d all have m badges in the back but to add an m badge on the back of just an m-sport really in my opinion is to deceive onlookers to think that ur car is more or better than it really is..just my opinion I think if u start to add m badges on a car which is not a full m car or at least an m140 for eg I think that is chavvy & deceptive.
Fair enough if it’s got some M performance parts, that makes it abit better I guess, but putting it on a standard car is like putting an st badge on a normal fiesta
If it has a “M sport” designation on leaving the factory and the invoice confirms then that’s fine. If you add a M sport gear knob, you can’t then put an M sport badge on it...
BMW have been doing this since the E30s, sticking M badges on the cars but now they stick it just about everywhere as mr/mrs average joe blogs will buy it. On your coupe you can add new badges as it came with them, personally I would de-badge it as I like the clean look.
It’s your car. Do what you like. Personally I wouldn’t have the m badge on a car that’s not a specific m3-4-5 etc. There ain’t no rules though, do what makes you happy. Bollocks to the rest of them. 👍
I have 325cl convertible m sport, the only thing that tells you this apart from bmw paper work is the badge on the inside door sill, no I would not put one anywhere else, but if one on your boot floats your boat then that's your choice.
Chavvy. It actually makes me face-palm, or genuinely uncontrollably laugh when i see stuff like this on cars. I thought someone was going to physically attack me once when i couldn't stifle giggling at his car. Which i guess proves it's chavvy. I'm the type of person that would de-badge a car that genuinely was a sports/special version though. I'd definitely not add something that didn't come with the car.
This is your car and you should have it look the way you want it to. Personally I don't think the M logo belongs here. I have an M Sport 5 series but at trim level only. I decided to take off the badges. Much cleaner look. Looking forward to seeing this car back to its former glory! I'd love you to take a look at mine and work your magic!?
What do you recommend for cleaning the fabric seats in an Audi I have an A4 with the half leather and sprint cloth in the centre and want to clean the cloth with a spray fabric cleaner ? Thanks
craig search for how to clean alcantara on you tube you will see my video with ram from colorlock cleaning textile half leather seats. its all in there mate.
Forensic Detailing Channel yeah but the sprint cloth isn’t alcantara it’s like a harder wearing cloth not sure if you know the one I’m on about it’s like very small squares if that makes any sense ?
If it says M or m sport on the log book then it’s ok!! my last 7 BMW’s have been m sport 30d models so all badged up, my current car is a 30d luxury so no badge Anyway I like to keep them guessing and at the light you will surprise a lot of people 🤫😉
At least it’s a genuine badge! Not those crappy eBay ones. You can tell the difference because genuine ones don’t have chrome in between each colour stripe
The tri colours are as far as I know. Blue is bmw blue from the badge, the red is texaco red and the purple is a combo of the two from when they were partners/sponsors in the 70’s for their motorsport/racing teams. Might be wrong tho 🤣
I've got an E93 MSport Highline, I'd never have an M badge on the back even tho theres M badges and parts on the car. I think M badges on the boot should just be for the actual cars M cars
I think it's ok to have them on as the car has msport equipment however I think the car would look clean if the rear one is removed and leave the side ones on as it's subtle
Only cars that should have an M badge are the full M cars (1M, M2, M3, etc...), and then the M Lites such as M140i, M240i, M40i.. But not an M Sport 320d for example as that is just a 320d with the M Sport bumper. Putting an M badge on a non M or M Lite car is like trying to pretend you've got something you don't
If it didnt leave the factory with it, it dont belong on the car :-). Remove and flog on ebay. Then focus on putting the right wheels back on it to get the handling back to how BMW intended!!
My view would be if BMW put them on there then all good, if they haven’t then it shouldn’t be there. Personally I debadge all my cars regardless what the badge is. Cleans up the rear end.
That’s silly mate. Why would you debage an M if it was on back? It actually makes BMWs look better in my opinion, but I definitely wouldn’t add the badges if it wasn’t a true M car.
@@richardjackson5670 you say it’s silly, and then go onto say ‘in your opinion’ it looks better. Am I not allowed an opinion without you mocking it? Well it’s not silly ‘in my opinion’ because why on earth do you need a badge telling you what model it is? I know exactly what model my cars are, I don’t need a badge to remind me. So with that in mind the badge must be there for others, who quite frankly probably don’t care. Those don’t know cars won’t really know what it is with or without a badge. Those who know cars know exactly what it is and again why would you need the badge to tell them what they already know. Car designers don’t design cars with badges. They are stuck on as an after thought. That’s just my opinion, I respect yours is different. BMW would debadge the car for free when you purchase them new. Kinda says a lot about what they think of them.
I’d take off the M badge at the rear but leave the other less noticeable ones like the side on as that’s more M sport trim level not trying to be an M car
Thousands of posers in my area putting M badges on their cars when everyone can see its the bare bones diesel model. It's literally there to try and show people that you have a better car than you actually do.
I had a 540i with the M trim so it had the M badge on the steering wheel and on the rims which were the deep dish type and also the spoiler. I also had some of the M interior trim. I'm sure it was a BMW marketing exercise to have people think it was a version of the M.......smoke and mirrors in car marketing I suspect Cheers
I am trying to resist the temptation to go full anorak... But I can't help it! As has been noted by a few people, the ///M Badge on your boot is not a factory fit. However, I think there's an important distinction to make. BMW and BMW M GmbH have always been 'separate' entities, at one point M GmbH even had their own assembly line where the cars were handbuilt (the E34 M5 was the last one!). Video games for example may of had the license for BMW M GmbH cars, but not for non-M BMW cars. BMW M GmbH would lend their know-how and engineers to the father company when they weren't building ///M cars or race cars to specify refinements to standard models such as suspension, (mild) engine improvements and interior appointments. For years, these were called 'M-Tec', e.g. the body kit, standard fit suspension, gearknob and potentially the steering wheel on your E36 are all 'M-Tec' appointments. Even on the later 'M Sport' cars that started with the E46, all of the appointments are 'M-Tec' appointments. It was with the introduction of the first M135i that 'M Performance' became a sub-brand that usurped 'M-Tec'. M-Performance in many respects involves the ///M division a lot more than 'M-Tec' refinements did in the past, apart from two classic models - the E12 and E28 M535i, these were designed by BMW M GmbH to go racing and imho, deserving of the ///M Badge. I think that's where the distinction is to be made. E12/E28 M535i ---> 'M Performance' cars such as the M135/M140i are half fat ///M cars, whereas all 'M-Tec' adorned Sport models are essentially accessory and styling packs, thus shouldn't have an ///M Badge on the boot. It doesn't take anything away from the 'Sport' models still, but they're not in any way, shape or form an ///M car :-)
I have a 525d m sport plus. It already has m decals on the sides and inside. I was strongly advised by my piers way before even buying a BMW to NEVER EVER put an M Badge on the back. If it isn't a true factory M one, then other BMW owners will secretly laugh, call you a fake-and gay-gremlin, and question all of your other life choices too. It means one is being a poser. Anything else around the rest of the car is OK, so long as it is a proper m sport/lite/performance and upwards. On the back though...big NO!
Could be worse, my next door neighbours Citroen Dispatch van has an M badge on it 🤣 and a couple of days ago an old Range Rover came past me with the Porsche "turbo" badge and the old Renault "sport" badge on the boot 🤦♂️
The ///M badge really looks at home on an Original M3 Jon. By itself it does look odd and out of place without the "3" It's up to you if you want to keep it, but I'd remove it to be honest
can someone confirm. It wouldnt have this M badge (on the boot) from factory right.. its been put on there by someone else?
It's a spurious badge put on by someone else. M-Sport wasn't even a thing in 1998. (It's registered as a 328i Sport (no M). And genuine M badge reds and blues don't go flat like the one on your boot. But, all the other M decals like on the door mouldings, gear knob and steering wheel base are actually all correct for this car. It's just the one on the boot you need to lose.
@@owensteele1274 correct that badge is fake and shouldn't be on the outside of any BMW
have a 2016 cors edition it would t fit and does t make a sense to put a opc badge on it.same with bmw if you have a m performance you can put a M performance badge
if it is t a M bmw than don t put it a M badge on it mi opnion
Yes the badge was put on by someone else... But as I mentioned in my other comment probably because it is a 328i sport which came with mtec stuff like suspension etc hence they thought the extra badge would reinforce the point.. Even though it had m badges from the factory on the side..
@@owensteele1274 I think the rear badge maybe genuine as the older M cars like the e12, e24 and e34 had these flatter type... The more common ones which we all know now.. which are more rounded came out later
Just debadge it mate and leave the BMW badge on the bonnet and boot. Much cleaner and classier.
+1
Couldn’t agree more
How else would they show that they are transgender?
my neighbour has a e60 530d and hes taken the 30d badges off and put an m badge in front of the 5 thats still there so now it says "M5" when my mates come round they always giggle at it what a tit.
At least he made u guys smile . That’s a good thing ..
M badge on boot is m power ( engine ) The others are for m performance suspension trim ect

As I work for BMW Engineering here in NJ you go. The blue in the BMW M logo represents BMW and its home in the Bavarian region in Germany
The purple in the BMW M logo represents the transition and collaboration between the colors blue and red
The red in the BMW M logo represents the partnership of BMW and Texaco, an American oil brand, in the early ages of BMW Motorsport. When the collaboration between the two ended, BMW bought out the rights to the color red from Texaco.

On all my bmws I debadge and leave the BMW logo on the boot and bonnet. I think it looks cleaner
Take it off doesn’t even look a genuine badge, it’s a good looking car, the rest of the rear is de badged so looks out of place
I once put a GTR badge on a 1991 Sentra SE-R for kicks. People liked it, a lot lol.
I say, do what makes you happy!
Agreed 💯
No additional badges that didn’t come from the factory in my opinion
Keep it how it came from the factory 😎
Remove it and stick on a AMG badge.
100% has to be off. All badges on the rear of beemers should be off unless it's a genuine M3 etc. First thing I did to my 330 M was get the badges off!!
@Get it up you it was an E92 I had. A 330 M sport. It was fully badged as a 330 and M sport. All got removed soon as I got it
I’ve debadged my E46 M3, there’s enough tell tale signs for people in the know (quad exhaust, wider track and bulged body panels, front wing grills)... doesn’t need an M3 badge on for me, looks cleaner without
If it came with the badges from factory leave them on.
Dont think so. Badge from an M3 says M3 not just M
So hard
The most common question people used to ask me when filling up with petrol in the Accord Type R was "Where did you get the Red Type R decals from because Honda didn't make a Type R Accord?"
Some people knew what it was though. Usually older people, not the ricer kids in Civics.
Honda's don't get that much attention so your lieing.
No, definitely not! Having said that, it's your car, do what you like 👍.
Definitely get rid of the m badge and put 328i on it 👍🏻
It's just up to the individual in my opinion just do what makes you happy! I have E90 320d M-Sport black carbon badges front and rear with matching M badge on boot/trunk and side wings/fenders don't really care what others think of it looks cool to me 👍
Please by ford and stick some rs badges on it
💯
Do whatever makes you happy. Fuck what everyone else thinks. I have a 330ci with more power than an M3 and I don't have M badges or colors on my car. Don't need them. I got the power. My car came with M emblems on the wheels and steering wheel. The wheels are gone. I threw them away.
rear end should only have an M badge if it's the real deal.
I saw a type r badge on an Audi the other day 🤦🏼♂️
There's one on a mondeo diesel by me plus it has ever ford trim level badge on the boot as well ghia all the way to titanium x zetec every badge on the 1 boot lol
Get it up you worse I’ve seen is a base spec Mini Cooper with an m badge on the FRONT 🤣
I've literally seen a TDI badge from a Golf put onto a Tesla. I win lol
My preference is to remove all m badges but as others have said it's your car, if you like them keep them.
Is it isn’t a genuine m car, then having the m badge on it is false advertising

Blue stands for BMW, red for motorsport and violet for the unique combination of the two as far as I'm aware
Pfftttt! Obviously the blue represents the color of your face when your holding your breathe just before the mechanic tells you the bill after your warranty expired on your M3. Red? For the blood that will end up all over the place when you cut off you're right arm as payment. Purple? The color of every BMW owners bruised ego! 😆
It’s each to there own, mines a 530i m sport but the only m sport on its on the sills
I thought M sport was the body package and then M on the back was to denote M Performance
Looks much cleaner with only the trunk logo.
just forgot, that the Z4 M had it without the number.
It drew too much attention but you had a Z4? 😂 yeah I took the badges off my Ferrari because it done the same 😂
Most important thing is how it makes you feel. If you like it that's all that matters.

I don't care what you do with your badge John so long as you change those front indicator lenses for clear ones lol.
Agree about changing the indicators to clear ones.
@@robert.wigley It is a small change that makes a huge difference on any car. The rear ones are already spot on.

Hi John..love the new purchase. These look far better without the rear spoiler....
I have a 328i with the Msport package. I have the M on my steering wheel and on my rims. But no badges on body of the car.
No I don’t, don’t talk crap
Bimmer Clubsport you just get the 316i M badge vibe i think.. that’s the problem
@@paulallenpierceandpierce Yeah well there are limits :)
Some non M cars in the US come with the M badge. Forgot the name/edition though
@Get it up you never said the E36. I mean in general
I have 325cl convertible m sport, the only thing that tells you this apart from bmw paper work is the badge on the inside door sill, no I would not put one anywhere else, but if one on your boot floats your boat then that's your choice.
fwiw I’d just take the M off and put a 328i badge in its place - c.£12 on EBay.
Its pointless because the only people who know what it means are the people that know it shouldn't be there, so it just looks stupid 100% of the time
A little bit of ignorance there matey.
Yes definitely cool, but only if it was purchased off eBay and it’s UV faded 😎
This is your car and you should have it look the way you want it to. Personally I don't think the M logo belongs here. I have an M Sport 5 series but at trim level only. I decided to take off the badges. Much cleaner look. Looking forward to seeing this car back to its former glory! I'd love you to take a look at mine and work your magic!?
Plz de badge the bmw regardless of if it should be there it looks much cleaner without
De badge it. just leave the bmw bonnet & bootlid badges

If it says M or m sport on the log book then it’s ok!!
my last 7 BMW’s have been m sport 30d models so all badged up, my current car is a 30d luxury so no badge

If it didn't come with one on the back out the factory, it doesn't count.
Why not ? If BMW splash multiple M logo's on your car from factory, why can't the owner add one more.
No-one is pretending they have an M3 here.
Bimmer Clubsport you wouldn’t see an S3 badge on the back of an s-line A3 would you, it’s exactly the same with this 🤢
Same as putting an ST badge on the back of a standard focus or fiesta, chavvy teen boyracer move. Nonono
No it isn't, it's an entirely different thing.
I have a 530d Msport with M badges on it from factory. Does that apply to me too?
I once saw a single exhaust E60 with a M5 badge. 🤦🏻♂️
Now that is shit. 😂
Remove the M badge on the trunk for a more "clean" look, leave as-is on the doors
I had a 540i with the M trim so it had the M badge on the steering wheel and on the rims which were the deep dish type and also the spoiler. I also had some of the M interior trim. I'm sure it was a BMW marketing exercise to have people think it was a version of the M.......smoke and mirrors in car marketing I suspect
Cheers
Debadge is best, no matter what car you have. Now people actually have to put in effort to find out what car it is.
I have just put an m on my BMW X5 boot. It’s an M sport & I love the looks . I’m happy 😃
My 125i came from the factory with them on, the only thing I’ve done is change them to black as the car is white
If it didn’t have the M badge off the production line, don’t fit one.
It’s akin to putting a rolled up sock down your trousers :-)
It should go. Putting a Cosworth badge on my ST would be a similarly "out of place" decision!
Should I remove the m badge from my 330i e46, it came with the car when I bought it and haven't decided whether to get rid of it.
yes;)
@@ForensicDetailing thanks, I'll remove it tomorrow
No M badge without M power. Own what you have, make the most of it!
Only if it left factory with rhis badge... no other way.
By itself it does look odd and out of place without the "3"
It's up to you if you want to keep it, but I'd remove it to be honest
If it comes with a badge then fine, if it doesn’t then get rid. 🗑
