its very refreshing to see someone really take pride in their work, especially on a commercial job, so many just do the bare minimum, which is why the hedges are the way they are.

This is up there with my pet hate, when other people have been maintaining that area if you can call it that, they’ve done a naff job, not taking into consideration how those shrubs are going to look in years to come, then you’ve got a massive job on making everything look normal again, story of my life 😂

You're doing the right thing, Lee.
I've said it before but it can't be overstated:
Hedges should never be wider at the top than at the bottom. Not only does it look bad as hedges mature, it's - more critically - bad for the health of the plants (though the ugliness is a result of the effect on plant health). Why? The lower foliage will receive less light for photosythesis over the course of each day, each season and their lifetime. As a result the plants will produce leas lower foliage, thus exposing stems, more foliage at the top becoming more top heavy and weaker. That's when lower canopy aetiolation (yellow leaves), losing chunks in gales, chunks growing in odd directions, bare patches appear due to the plants' insuffiiency to distribute limited nutrients (preferring and taking mobile nutrients (e.g. N) from older foliage to new shoots which can reach light) and disease susceptibility such a Box blight in Buxus sempervivum occur. The stress on the plants caused by malpruning exacerbates 'water sprouting' creating a greater proliferation of vertical stems. Quite the vicious cycle which require more maintenance and pruning visits.
Ideally there should be a slight taper, that is wider at the bottom to thinner at the top, to even out light exposure, though this is more critical for taller hedges.
It takes a few trims to get into shape, maybe a season or two to plump out and plenty of customer reassurance it's first and foremost for plant health. Reduced maintence costs and libiliy are a bonus.

This is such a blessing Lee. I’m sure the residents will be so overjoyed to see the hedges in a proper state of being straight and level. If you’d left the hedges as is, it looks like they’d collapsed eventually. Must be so gratifying for you, to see them coming back into a more pleasing state. Many thanks for sharing with us. We all appreciate it, I hope as much as the residents will do 👍💎👍💎👍

This job must be giving you the 'mares Lee. Those hedges need a serious chopping down to a level where they can grow straight again, but that might frighten a few. It will come right in the end, but my God you have your work cut out here. Good luck 😀

Love the outcome Lee, no one can believe it when you cut something back and it bounces back twice as good. I’m always trying to persuade my customers that their hugely over grown shrubs need a good haircut and when it’s done they have to agree. Great background music by the way, reminds me a bit of the Sweeney series. I expected to see you come screaming round the corner with the van on two wheels then skid to a halt and jump out with your hedge cutter pointing menacingly😂

You'll trim it to be really square, eh? Did you know, laser cutting technology is already with us! Ignoring the fire hazard and "instantly melt someone's eyeballs from 100 meters away", you too can get yourself a laser and get it to cut the hedge right from the roadside! It'll be p e r f e c t l y cut.
