  • In this tutorial we do the mod podge and epoxy seal version of the glitter wine glass.
    Of the two ways we did this, we found we preferred the mod podge and epoxy method better than the full epoxy method.
    Which way do you prefer?

    Very nice. I'm new to resin and even newer to resin on glasses. I like this method of the glue and glitter first then the epoxy but my question is this: Do you still have to flip it even with a ultra thin layer of epoxy? Thanks and Blessings.

    • @ErinEnsley
      @ErinEnsley  5 лет назад +2

      Yes, you will still need to flip it even if you do super thin layers. Epoxy likes to move and if you keep it in one spot it will clump up and dry like that and leave a dimple or bump. You may not have to rotate it as often, but make sure you keep an eye on it and rotate as needed.

    • @ErinEnsley

      You have to seal the modpodge with epoxy. Only sealing it with modpodge will eventually have the glitter fall off. It also dulls the glitter. Adding the epoxy brings back its shine.

      That usually means you didn’t mix your epoxy correctly. It should only take 12-24 hours for it to set and harden. Be sure to read the directions and mix according to the epoxy you purchased. Most are equal parts of A and B. They have to be near exact parts and mixed for a full 3 mins to work. Some are a 2:1 ratio.

    So glad I stumbled upon this video, I'm in the process of making glitter glasses myself and this helped a lot. I am however having trouble drying my epoxy without a big mess. I don't have a spinner (or know how to make one), any other suggestions besides the flipping upside down?

    • @ShayNikki
      @ShayNikki 6 лет назад

      Also, what do you use for your vinyl lettering?

    • @ErinEnsley

      Hey Shayla - Your other option would be to fit in the wine glass - a lot of people are using small nerf like footballs that they found at the dollar store - you could get cut a hole in the center and place a PVC pipe (these are fairly cheap at Home Depot or Lowes) and place the PVC pipe in the football - this can be used to hold the glass as well unstead of using your hand. Then I'd either cut a hole in some wood to hold it, or you could get a tall vase or glass and fill with some river rock or stones, sand, whatever, to place the pvc pipe in it to hold it. You're main problem is you are going to still have to flip it. You could try a hand turner - I took a some what tall cardboard box, popped two wholes in either side, placed my PVC pipe through the holes and my tumblers (I don't put my glasses on it) on the other end and every 5 minutes I spin it around by hand. Let it sit for 5, spin again, so the epoxy continues to flow and not drip. After doing this for an hour I then spin every 10 minutes for an hour, then every 15 for an hour, every 30 for an hour and continue with every 30 until the epoxy no longer flows. Hope that helps!!
      My vinyl is Oracal 651

      Shayla Green. If you don't want to try making a turner got to etsy. I brought one from there and it came very quick. They're listed under cuptisserie.

      Whats is epoxy?

    • @ErinEnsley
      @ErinEnsley  5 лет назад

      It is a 2 part combination that when mixed together slowly begins to harden. This material is the only thing that is FDA compliant so people like using it to seal in glitter onto cups.

      I buy in large bulk so I usually buy it on Ebay - whatever is around $100 - However, you can buy it at craft stores too. If you go to my store front and click on CRAFTS you'll see some of my favorite brands.

      If the glass is going to be used for drinking you will need to seal it with epoxy as your finishing coat. Epoxy is the only thing that is FDA compliant. Modpodge is fine for applying the glitter but it can’t be your final coat if you plan on drinking from it.

    How long did you let your mod podge dry before applying the epoxy

    • @ErinEnsley
      @ErinEnsley  5 лет назад +1

      Depends on how thick you laid it on. Could be 10 minutes, could be 30 minutes. Once mine is no longer white I move on to the next step.

    • @ErinEnsley

      Best to remove when it’s still tacky so if it lifts you can just push it back down and it will stick as it hardens. You have 1 of 2 options. Add another layer of epoxy to hold it down, or sand that area, retape modpodge, glitter then epoxy (not the whole cup just where it lifted)

    • @ErinEnsley

      You have to use epoxy to finish it. If you don't, nothing will seal in the glitter. Epoxy, once cured, is the only thing that is FDA compliant. If you do just epoxy then you don't have as much control over the glitter like you do when you do the method of modpodge and epoxy.

    • @ErinEnsley
      @ErinEnsley  4 года назад

      You’d have to sand it down if it’s thick. If not, you can try to take some acetone nail polish remover to eat at it.

    I know it’s been a few years since this video came out, but is it possible to make these glasses using just dishwasher safe mod podge?
    I messed up and spent a lot of money on supplies and started with original mod podge and the finished product just peeled off my glass. I’m trying one more time using dishwasher safe formula, but I wanted to get a professionals opinion on the possibility of mod podge only before I spend a lot of money on epoxy 😂

    • @ErinEnsley
      @ErinEnsley  4 года назад

      Technically there isn’t anything that says you can’t, however epoxy is only FDA compliant not actually approved so I don’t like to bring it to the rim if that’s where people are going to drink from. If they are drinking from a lid then I feel it’s ok.
