    Buddy Rich is know as the #1 drummer in the World for many Years !! Slingerland drums were his favorite drums he used ! Going that fast & sub staining his rhythm and beat for that long will eventually cause irreparable harm to your body & heart . I learned Buddy died of nature- causes or a heart attack !
    You can develop hypertension I know that because I am a drummer 4 / 40 years & I am saddened we Loss a great Star Who Trun into this Beautiful Nova .
    R. I. P. Buddy Rich you're in Heaven Now !

    So how can one describe a drum solo like this one that only the MASTER Drummer Buddy Rich could perform? Self inhibited talent that was inherited. What I will say and repeat it . No music schools no drum books no critical analysis of drumming. None of that?? Just pure talent gifted talent. You could watch this solo over and over and still see something or hear something you didn't get the last time. Watch Steve Marcus on Sax watching Buddy intently. All the other guys in the band are in awe also. I know Buddy must have played West Side and Channel One many many times. But Rich did something a lot of other guys on drums could not and will not do? Play a whole different interpretation of a drum solo. Every night a new idea. he could show you cross overs and dynamic speed but all in all he was the MASTER Drummer. How much more respect can one give a drummer like Buddy Rich? Well now lets put it this way. Steve Gadd said this Buddy makes all the rest of us look like were fooling around??? Buddy was not fooling around He was playing his heart out and doing the impossible and making it look easy. The one the Only Buddy Rich. Still no one can come close.

      Totalmente de acuerdo.. Además de todo lo expresado agrego que Buddy dejaba el alma en cada concierto, se le puede ver absolutamente exhausto al terminar West Side Story, lo que demuestra la total entrega a su profesión.

    Well… Here’s the video to play anyone who says Buddy Rich slowed down toward the end of his life. This may be one of his greatest recorded solos. Period. Wonderful he was around long enough to see television sound moving to stereo. And oooohhh those unspeakably beautiful old restored radio kings! The only unfortunate thing here, that I see all the time, is the soundman was afraid of the lead trumpet player. Tony Gorruso is an unbelievable lead man still working on Broadway. But the level on the first trumpet is set so you can just barely hear his loudest notes. If you want to check him out, he’s much more audible on the video from Disneyland also from 1984.

    Has anyone noticed that Buddy always uses his far right floor tom mainly as a table?? He usually just puts drinks and stuff on there! So essentially, he's just playing on a four drum kit. Imagine all that thunder and lightning from such a minimal set. Unreal.

    • @ajn465
      @ajn465 5 лет назад +1

      tiffsaver Buddy had some real back issues and that no doubt contributed to his non use of the drum (he used it a lot in his younger years ). Couldn’t do away with his signature kit though... and it did make a handy towel rack!

      Young big kit drummers, could learn a lot here..
      You don’t need the big kits to be brilliant.

    I don’t recall today’s Buddy Rich tribute bands with various drummers, playing West Side Story, or any other big band for that fact.
    Would love to see it, if there is.
    Tough to play this version.

    I always wondered if Buddy told the band to keep their attention on him during the solo. I also wondered if the young bucks in the band realized at the time they were playing with the greatest drummer of all time.

    Remember the days when top drummers could actually be seen playing 4or 5 piece kits.
    Now they are hidden behind a sea of drums and cymbals.
    Buddy is still a mile in front of those who have followed him.
