    CertBros, I am speechless, I don't know how to thank you,but in college these professors DO NOT explain lesson clear they want to feel important and smart, and not helping the students, If you ask them a question they tell you to go to book, CertBros thank you very much for short, smart and clear way explaining It, LOVE YOU.

      CertBros I think there is one more mode in VTP called OFF mode to disable VTP completely.

    • @Certbros
      @Certbros  6 лет назад +2

      Yes that's right. On some switches you can disable VTP with the 'Off' mode.

    • @VW_Fan
      @VW_Fan 6 лет назад +2

      Off mode in in IOS 15 only. It isn't in IOS 12.

      The additional info here by all those who commented on their being an “OFF” mode in later is very helpful to acknowledge. Thanks.

    Man I just want to really say this video was BOSS! All your videos are also BOSS. This was one the most confusing as hell topics I’ve come across so far in all of VLANS. You did a super damn great job in not only simplifying and explaining all of this, but with very great graphic and animation so well convey and e plain this that I totally get it. Your oratory skills in explaining all of it is totally on point. Whatever your doing in life, I hope your doing well at it. But please for all your subscribers and everyone that will eventually find your videos, please please Keep Making These So Well Explained Networking Concept Videos. I don’t think any subscribers here will disagree with me in the slightest on that. Your explanation of even difficult to understand concepts are in essence Nuts & Bolts Total BOSS!

    Even if a switch has learned some VLANs through VTP, you still need to go on the switch to configure the access ports you need in what VLAN, the trunk ports who allows what VLANs etc. I don't see that tremendous help of VTP. It must be something I'm missing.

    8:28 - No the switch doesn't need to be in server mode. A switch in client mode with a higher revision number will push out its database to al other switches in the VTP domain.

    Great video. I think you should mention that the vtp wipeout occurs when the removed and reconnected switch is in vtp server mode. If you change the vtp mode to client first, it shouldn't advertise the new database.

    • @Certbros
      @Certbros  4 года назад +2

      Thanks Scott, glad you liked the video. VTP clients can still cause wipeouts. When the server sees the higher revision number it will request a copy of the database.

    In the scenario at 7:30 , If the switch taken offline and put back online with no vlans and a higher revision number was a VTP client, would it still broadcast it's VTP data, and would the other VTP servers give a shit? Is the scenario considering that switch C is a VTP server?

  • @davidrigsbee1857

Because he does it already so well in presentation and in a very understandable way. I hope he does.

    I have an issue with some Cisco switches that have been added to an existing network. I manually configured VLANs (on the new switches) that are working correctly, and traffic is flowing as expected. However, I mistakenly configured the wrong VTP domain and password, so my VTP client has not downloaded the additional VLANs. The switch is still functioning properly because the initial VLANs were manually configured before it was added to the VTP domain. If I now want to change the VTP domain and password while the switch is in production, what would the procedure be, and would it cause any service disruptions, recalculations, or other issues?
