I was born and raised in San Francisco. I remember the announcement on the radio when Al Jolson died. I was eight years old. On September 12th, 1950 my dad was called up by the Marine Corp to report to Korea. I never got to see my dad again. The music of Al Jolson is very enjoyable. Thinking about Korea or any war does not give me pleasure, and I am a Vietnam vet.
I have always loved Al Jolson and his singing. His impact on America was something like Elvis when he came along. You never heard that kind of music way back then when Al Jolson started singing. I don't think the young people of today cannot appreciate Mr. Jolson without doing a little historical research of that time. I appeal to the young generation of today to ask your parents, grandparents about their youth and pay attention. Al Jolson's song will last long after we're gone,. Thank you

I didn't know Al Jolson sang so many beautiful songs, like this one and You Made Me Love You, Are You Lonesome Tonight and I'll Be Seeing You. Very nice.

I have the two films The Jolson Story and Jolson Sings Again, alsoThe Jazz Singer and Swanee River a double record album of his , a cd of his favourite songs and a cd with Doris Day on his radio show. I would love to get hold of some of his other films if anyone can help.
What a beautiful couple. At long last, Jolie found happiness with Erle Galbraith, an X-ray technologist he met while being treated for malaria contracted on tour with our troops in the South Pacific. Al and Erle had two children, Asa Jr. and Alicia. Too bad life was cut short for Jolie shortly after he returned home from entertaining U.S. forces in Korea. But we will always have Jolie's recordings and movies.
