    We have Georg Jensen cutlery, Vivianna in stainless steel. I think the older pieces are over 20 years old, some are under a year old, we use them every single day (as we do with our Denby dinnerware). We never put the knives in the dishwasher, as this can damage them. Ours are marketed as 18/10, I know from my Dad (who was a metallurgist before retirement) that the cutlery (knives) are made from a different stainless steel than flatware. Flatware stainless is less prone to rust, but softer, while cutlery stainless is slightly more prone to rust and harder, so it keeps an edge better. This (according to my Dad) is a sign of quality - It's easy to test, as the knives are magnetic, while the forks and spoons aren't.

      I haven’t heard of Denby in a while! Solid plates! I put my normal knives in the dish washer but not my sharp cooking knives which I handwash and professionally sharpen once a year.
      Your dad is right!
      Quality always serves you well!

      @@SoAnesu According to my dad there is some sort of chemical process that can happen in a dishwasher due to the different types of metal. My parents cutlery is about 60 years old and still going strong!

    • @SoAnesu

      You are welcome.
      WMF is an interesting one the technology is amazing but I have heard of rust issues and the lamination / coating peeling off but one can’t help but wonder how the cutlery was being looked after. I would take the gamble if they had a style I like but with anything i would definitely make the effort to look after it after having paid so much... and considering you want it to last a lifetime.

    You've mentioned nice flatware can be used a lifetime and even passed on. Based on online articles, people seem to suggested plated silverware lasts around 20 years. Would you kindly clarify this position and if it plated silver flatware really only have a life of around 2 decades? Thank you.

    • @SoAnesu
      @SoAnesu  2 года назад +9

      It’s all about quality. Superb quality I’m talking brands such Odiot, Hermès, Puiforcat and Christofle for example will never have an issue. Their silver plated or sterling silver will tarnish (darken) if it’s not used but once polished it will look as good as new. 20, 30, 40+ years you will pass it on to your children and children’s children!
