It does hurt to hear it at times (I love Jess too), but just remind yourself that *someone* has to call Jess out when he's out of line. Rory lets him get away with a lot, and Luke almost NEVER wins when it comes to Jess, so it makes sense that it has to be Lorelai and she's obviously going to be angrier about it... Without someone there to tell him when he's gone too far, Jess wouldn't be nearly as flawed/sympathetic as he is.

this is how i see the whole jess situation: jess is a troubled kid who has a really hard time expressing his emotions. when him and rory were on that bus the last time they saw each other, i bet jess was feeling really embarrassed about not graduating which is why he didn’t tell rory or show any emotions. i think that because he grew up being raised by someone he could never really talk to, he has a hard time opening up to people and expressing his emotions because he doesn’t want to let anyone into his life so they can just walk right out (i just realized that’s almost a quote from to all the boys i’ve loved before ahahaha). at rory’s graduation when he tried to call her, i bet he wanted to tell her he loved her and just spill out all of his emotions, but he was too scared to. so he tried to cut her out of his life and forget about her, because he knows that he’s never going to be able to express his feelings to her. then, when he came back, they ran into each other and he ran away because he didn’t know how to say that he loved her. then he did it again. finally, rory runs away (btw the way she ran was SO FUNNY HAHAHAHA and jess ran so attractively omg), and jess finally gets the courage to tell her he loves her. but then, he can’t handle all of the feelings he just expressed so he runs away probably not to see rory for another 5 years. He goes after her when she's in town for his mother wedding, they have like a fling (seriously her first time should have been with him), but she is in Yale he doesn't want to be there, so he leaves again but this time in good terms. Then comes Dean as a rebound. The Dean thing would have made much better sense that way. After that everything happens like it did on the show. That would be perfect. ngl i wish this show was more about at least an end game romance than a story about rory’s self destruction, struggles, and lack of closure or commitment. i feel like jess was such a big part of the plot, and since he left, the rest of the show felt like it was entirely disconnected from the main plot. like they feel like soulmates and it feels like everything was supposed to lead up to them finding each other
The way I see this scene is how much Rory was hurt by Jess and that she loved him so much that she wanted to hurt him. She wasn’t as upset with dean or Logan meaning she always really loved Jess too
I know after he left she started changing dramatically almost like it broke her heart so bad she was trying to cover the pain by getting with Dean, she loved Jess so much, but she never faced it she was scared of it, but he was the one she kept going back to, he was the one that inspired her to get back on her feet, and she did that because of him, yeah by the end of the show she was a mess, she went through a messy period like Jess did, but I think after some time they would be perfect, and find each other again, she cheated on both Dean, and Logan with Jess, but she never cheated on Jess!

I really think the entire issue with the relationship is, contrary to how he would behave, Jess had shit self esteem. I don’t think he ever felt good enough for Rory. And people around him seemed to feel that way too. So eventually it took its toll. I don’t think he ever wanted to hurt or disappoint her. Now maybe I feel that way cuz Alexis and Milo had amazing chemistry (I’m sure cuz they dated in real life)
No I agree too. Jess AND Rory had communication issues and Jess had major low self esteem. And it didn’t help that Rory continuously compared him to Dean and the town putting him down. I know Jess want the greatest at times, but the town didn’t need to start putting him down before they officially knew him. Luke wanted to help Jess out, but Jess wasn't receptive and lashed out at him instead, telling him that he butts into other people's business too much. He gets so wrapped up in fixing other people that when those people fail (much like Jess did), they not only feel terrible that they failed; they feel even WORSE because they let Luke down in the process... Jess spoke out of guilt, but ended up really hurting Luke's feelings in the process. :(
I like Logan as a person and even I recognised he was a really good boyfriend and a good choice . He was sweet and supportive to Rory and she was happier with him . But damn I really want Jess and Rory to be together. Yeah Jess was not a great boyfriend, he was rude with people moody, he never opened up to her and she got hurt. But sometimes i kinda felt sorry for him. Yeah having a terrible childhood is not excuse to treat people poorly but what to do , he was not always that bad. He also was sweet to Rory sometimes. I really hope if they make a second revival that they end up together. They were like soulmates. I miss Jess.
he grew up a lot, especially in later seasons and he was extremely supportive in the revival. jess acted like a catalyst on several occasions for rory’s growth (confronting her about yale, encouraging her to write a book...) tbh i don’t think rory is a good match for jess. she’s really self involved. i want to see jess happy, but unfortunately i think rory is the only one for him. their relationships mirrors lorelai and luke’s.
It took everything in Jess to get those three words out, he needed Rory to know, but I think he knew it was too late, or he was so scared of being rejected after all the times in his life he'd felt abandoned (his mom, dad, luke) he desperately wanted Rory to embrace him again but was scared she'd say no, so before she even had the chance he bolted and drove away
in jess defense luke had already told him to stay away from her so jess probably didnt want luke nagging him about rory too, he had enough past comes back to bite your ass issues to deal with already i.e his wreck of a motherweho's choices luke doesnt aprrove and wanted him and jess to meddle with. so he probably just chose to avoid all kind of trouble plus the way he left afterfailing to graduate was a heavy burden preventing him from doing that right thing wich was to apologize and say goodbye at the very least, he was just to ashamed to face her

Same! After season 4, the show was never the same. Rory’s downfall came, Jess had scarce appearances, Yale drama continuously. The only good part about the later seasons, in my opinion, was Colin and Finn, Doyle and Paris, Luke and Lorelai (before the April drama), Jess’ few appearances, and Kirk.

That was the moment to kiss him like she did on Sookie's wedding!! She wanted but was scared and confused about her feelings for Jess and he caught her by surprise and she just kissed him and then pulled back because she was with Dean and it was all very messy. Now he comes back (again) and takes her by surprise (again) saying "I love you" then just kiss the fucking guy!!!! Pull back and run away like the first time because he really hurt her. He goes after her when she's in town for his mother wedding, they have like a fling (seriously her first time should have been with him), but she is in Yale he doesn't want to be there, so he leaves again but this time in good terms. Then comes Dean as a rebound. The Dean thing would have made much better sense that way. After that everything happens like it did on the show. That would be perfect. I should write a fanfic but I'm lazy so if anyone ever wants to write it please send it to me.
(Also they should have end up together at the Revival but the actor was busy so I understand that they didn't).

ngl i wish this show was more about at least an end game romance than a story about rory’s self destruction, struggles, and lack of closure or commitment. i feel like jess was such a big part of the plot, and since he left, the rest of the show felt like it was entirely disconnected from the main plot. like they feel like soulmates and it feels like everything was supposed to lead up to them finding each other

The way I see this scene is how much Rory was hurt by Jess and that she loved him so much that she wanted to hurt him. She wasn’t as upset with dean or Logan meaning she always really loved Jess too
I know after he left she started changing dramatically almost like it broke her heart so bad she was trying to cover the pain by getting with Dean, she loved Jess so much, but she never faced it she was scared of it, but he was the one she kept going back to, he was the one that inspired her to get back on her feet, and she did that because of him, yeah by the end of the show she was a mess, she went through a messy period like Jess did, but I think after some time they would be perfect, and find each other again, she cheated on both Dean, and Logan with Jess, but she never cheated on Jess!

A lot of people get mad at Jess for leaving without giving Rory a chance to respond. But the thing is that Jess never expected anything in return.
He knew he wasn't good enough for Rory and that he would do more harm than good by being with her. That's why he kept avoiding her all throughout the episode. He just needed to confess his feelings first.

I really think the entire issue with the relationship is, contrary to how he would behave, Jess had shit self esteem. I don’t think he ever felt good enough for Rory. And people around him seemed to feel that way too. So eventually it took its toll. I don’t think he ever wanted to hurt or disappoint her.

No I agree too. Jess AND Rory had communication issues and Jess had major low self esteem. And it didn’t help that Rory continuously compared him to Dean and the town putting him down. I know Jess want the greatest at times, but the town didn’t need to start putting him down before they officially knew him. Their favoriting Dean never gave Jess the opportunity to show that he really was a good match for Rory. It pisses me off so much 😢

Awwe Jess was truly in love with her, you get the feeling that she was the ONLY person that Jess has ever said that too in his ENTIRE life, he must have been terrified, he never recieved love, so he didn't properly know how to show it, or express himself 😭😭 He was abandoned by his father, and basically his mother too, so when Luke kicked him out, and he was messing up with Rory he left before she could abandon him, he didn't say goodbye because he didn't want it to be over, he wasn't good with goodbye's 😭😭 If only he had said something when he called her, or before he left, ughh they just needed to talk!! I wish he stayed after, but he probably thought she already hated him because of how angry she was, he got scared and ran. He just needed her to know, It was as if he was finally responding to her on the phone call. It also reminds me of when Rory would kiss him, and run away. She kisses him and runs away, he tells her he loves her and runs away, they are so made for each other!!

Luke wanted to help Jess out, but Jess wasn't receptive and lashed out at him instead, telling him that he butts into other people's business too much. He gets so wrapped up in fixing other people that when those people fail (much like Jess did), they not only feel terrible that they failed; they feel even WORSE because they let Luke down in the process...
Jess spoke out of guilt, but ended up really hurting Luke's feelings in the process. :(

I like Logan as a person and even I recognised he was a really good boyfriend and a good choice . He was sweet and supportive to Rory and she was happier with him . But damn I really want Jess and Rory to be together. Yeah Jess was not a great boyfriend, he was rude with people moody, he never opened up to her and she got hurt. But sometimes i kinda felt sorry for him. Yeah having a terrible childhood is not excuse to treat people poorly but what to do , he was not always that bad. He also was sweet to Rory sometimes. I really hope if they make a second revival that they end up together. They were like soulmates. I miss Jess.
he grew up a lot, especially in later seasons and he was extremely supportive in the revival. jess acted like a catalyst on several occasions for rory’s growth (confronting her about yale, encouraging her to write a book...) tbh i don’t think rory is a good match for jess. she’s really self involved. i want to see jess happy, but unfortunately i think rory is the only one for him. their relationships mirrors lorelai and luke’s.

Same! After season 4, the show was never the same. Rory’s downfall came, Jess had scarce appearances, Yale drama continuously. The only good part about the later seasons, in my opinion, was Colin and Finn, Doyle and Paris, Luke and Lorelai (before the April drama), Jess’ few appearances, and Kirk.
