In case any of you are not aware...this is video #5 in my ship vlog series. I am currently on #24 which was posted this week so please check out the other videos also, and I will post ship vlog#25 in about a week or so. In March I will be back aboard and continue making new videos so continue so stay tuned, and thank you all for watching, and check out the other videos from the ship too. I think you will like them. --Jeff
Loved your video, I have always been fascinated with those big container ships and have always wondered how it looked from the inside, thank you for sharing this informative video!
Thank you for the Great Video. For me this is real close to my heart. My father sailed for APL / Sealand when I was a kid. He said he would bring me along for a Pacific trip to Japan. He never got the chance to do it. He passed away. He was a third generation Merchant Marine and a Captain. Thanks aging for the Memories
Thanks to these awesome vlogs, i now have that bug again lol. I miss the sea so much now. Was in the US Navy for 6 years aboard CVN-70 USS Carl Vinson from 1998 - 2004 as an Aviation Ordnanceman, and now, at 41 years old, i would give my left eye to be abaord the Montana with you as a crewmate (shipmate). I miss the smell of salt water in the air, the spray of the sea during storms, the sound of the gulls overhead close to land, the sunsets and the comradarie. Im probably too old for Maersk operations now but sure would love to be out on the sea again. Thanks for sharing your vlogs with us. Fair winds and following seas.
Very detailed video. For people like me, who have never been on such a ship, I must say, it is quite dangerous life but for the sailors it is just another day. Thanks for showing all & everything with such care.
Wow engine room clean no oil on the floor. I worked in a dairy... with someone who was on container ships... He always told how clean CS were now I believe him . Appreciate You.
Oil on the floor would be a serious fire hazard. Also if there's oil on the floor, there'd be a problem, like a oil leak. It'd be extremely important to fix that.
This is unbelievable ! These guys have got brains.thankyou.the pressure from the sea with all of that weight bearing down on the bottom must be frightening.
This was a very interesting video. Not often do you get to see the inner workings of a huge cargo ship. It still amazes me how they can navigate such a huge ship. I doesn't seem like it can stop on a dime.
Thanks for getting back to me, enjoyed your tour. When I was 10, my Family was on our standard two week Vacation in New Hampshire. We met and became friends with a Merchant Marine officer, who was an Engineer On the Tanker Gulfknight. He had a cottage next to ours and we invited him on several boat trips. He was a true Sailor , born in Norway. This was back in the mid fifties, and Mr. Stenslin made a very strong impression on myself and my Family.
I'm really happy that you enjoyed the video and then it brought back some good memory for you I will keep posting videos during the times when I'm working on the ship so hopefully you can enjoy some other videos as well that I've already posted or some videos in the future hopefully but thank you for your comment and thank you for stopping by
Thank you very much for showing your experience on board container voyage. I so happened had the same experience on a 72 days around the globe . An experience and adventure which I will not forget.
I was an AB for over 40 yrs, sailing on most types of ships, container ships are the most boring for an AB, had the good fortune to sail on a few Maersk gas tankers in the mid 80s carrying methane worldwide, good ships withgood food and plenty of overtime, retired now and reside in Thailand.
I am someone who sees a building and wonders what the rooms are like behind each window. Your tour of the engineering spaces and minor quarters was exactly what I was hoping for ! Thank you for your attention to the details. Quite interesting.
How impressive this all is, it keeps men and women to keep this all functioning... Personally I couldn't work in such surroundings , but have that much more admiration for those who can. Thanks for this tour.
Allan Kawakami I appreciate your comment because it's kind of hard to shoot the video on the ship because the ship is rolling and I have to walk up and down stairs so thank you for your comment and watching the video I will be posting lots more soon
Thanks for the great tour of your ship. Thanks also to Maersk Line for letting us see a working ship. It is so clean and organized a truly amazing piece of machinery. Happy Trails
Did my internship on a Maersk ship when at Cal Maritime as a first class midshipman. Not the Montana but the Lexa and the Laust back in the late 80's. Got to ride out with the pilot as well! This brings back memories...Thanks!
Matt - never saw a tour like this ... could not believe the engine and generator rooms huge !! also surprised about the work shop as well --- thank you !!
Thanks Matt and Jeff. This is by far the greatest video I have seen from a Maersk Line vessel. Living in the Netherlands I drive now and then to the container harbour Maasvlakte 2 in Rotterdam. My biggest wish is to visit a vessel like this, or even better, cruise for a few weeks. Proud for you all keeping a vessel like this up and running.
Thank you for your comment and for watching there are other videos on the channel posted and I am working on some more footage this week so please come back I will continue posting thanks for your nice comment we should be in Rotterdam in about another week and a half

Really fascinating, if you love the sea and travel, and have some great pals aboard this is a job that would never be boring, thanks for sharing your aboard ship views with us.
Maersk Montana! Built in 2006. Love the action room/engine room. Loved the turbo on the aux engine. Think I counted 8 cylinder pots & 8 injectors to the main engine. I'm a truck mechanic by trade however I am now an exercise consultant (bachelor in sport & recreation) and naturally I loved the GYM! Here's my tip for you and it's not gonna cost you a cent. Ask the skipper/boss to invest in a Rowing Ergometer. It is the best piece of cardio & all-body strength equipment money can buy. If you want me to show you how to use it - then your boss will have to employ me. Loved the movie room! 20:29 - how romantic - the love boat...What fascinated me about your sweet vid is that I didn't see one fellow worker on board. Are you the only employee onboard? I guess nobody was working on Thanksgiving 2017...
Matt an Jeff Thank you so much for the wonderful videos I enjoy watching the ships and the ocean view thank you for your time and doing this for us God bless you both
fantastic video showing so much of the internal parts of the ships, huge engines. I did work for the Zim Israel shipping line for 2 years, doing container control at our Felixstowe offices, I used to meet the captain when the ship was berthed. and I went on board to check # paper work # was in order for Customs etc. Used to stay overnight in a cabin because the ship was due at 19.00 hrs, but usually later. this was a smaller one of Zim ships and they have large container ships going West or East. but Zim ships were not the size of Maersk line vessels. great video you made, thanks

i live 10km from where they did bild most of the Container ships in Denmark, i can see the big Shipyard crane from my garden, to'day in 2018 they do not bild ships there enymore, i think they did bild the last Containership out there in 2012, and Emma Mearsk was the last Containership they did bild in Denmark, Emma was the owner's wife, the name of he's wife, owner of mearsk, and the star with 7 tags on, stand for 7 work days att week, the old mearks did always work 7 days evry week to he did die, also he's son, he did still work to he was 97 years old, he did die in 2012,, 98 years old, and mearsk is the biggest emplyer in Denmark, with more then 100.000 workers. he also did pay most tax in our contry,,he did pay alot..mearsk own 750 other compenyes from supermarked to rubber fatery and so on and so on..and he did give alot back to the people in Denmarke, about 1,5% of he's income he did put in a fond, so evryone cut ask for help, normaly he did give hospitals in Denmark 1 big gift evry year, a wish the hospital did wish to have, like a big expisive scanner, he did pay for it, he did pay the new opera house in Copenhagen from he's private fond, 1,5% end up to be alot of monye in 1 year, so evry years 3-400 people or compenys did get a expinsive gift. it calls A.P Møller Fonden. evryone can ask even simple young people in US if they wish to stuud in a nother contry they can ask A.P Møller for help to surport them, in 2018 40 student from Island did evryone get more then 130.000 Euro, so they can live and studdy for years and still pay there bilds. no many peopel do that. and here you can see few of the projekts he did pay for.. www.apmollerfonde.dk/ He will be mised in Denmark.
I work for Maersk and I really appreciate this info you have posted...Thank you so much for that....I will try to do a little more vlogging when I am back on board next month...
I worked for Maersk for nine years 88-96 in Chicago, first as Stack Train Mgr. then as refrigerated cargo and special equipment coord. Loved the Danes; the US mgrs. not so much. Got aboard a vessel once, while it was in port in Tacoma and I was on vacation. Maersk is a part of the massive A P Moller empire in Denmark which includes deep sea towing, oil rigs, and much more. I was told that AP Moller accounts for one third of Denmark's GNP and its all privately owned by the grandson of the founder, the late Capt. A P Moller who started with one tramp vessel in the early 1900s. The origin of the seven-pointed star on the funnel emblem is worth looking up. AP Moller also builds their own "vessels" (the Danes don't call them "ships") in their own shipyard and owns the world's largest fleet of ocean-going vessels. If I remember correctly, if the name "Maersk" is the first word on the vessel's name, the vessel is leased. If "Maersk" is the second word, they own the vessel.
Thank You for sharing the nav bridge. I used to work for Kelvin Hughes and Mackay Marine so I spent most of my time working on nav bridges and I do believe that I worked on your radars at one point in time in the last 10 years. I saw a dirty S-Band antenna up there.
Thanks for the vid! How's the internet on Maersk? I was working onboard RCCL Allure of the Seas, and crew haven't had free internet. That sucks. And cabins were like, 80% smaller, literraly. And in that space we had a roomate lol. But it was nice experience. I would love to set sail on one of theese. Cheers

Simon Inglis well like I told another viewer we all try to keep the place where we live as clean as we can because that is our home away from home
Awesome, so neat and clean. Spacious too, not like a Navy ship where there is ten pounds of stuff in a five pound bag.
How impressive. Very neat and tidy it looks.

i live 10km from where they did bild most of the Container ships in Denmark, i can see the big Shipyard crane from my garden, to'day in 2018 they do not bild ships there enymore, i think they did bild the last Containership out there in 2012, and Emma Mearsk was the last Containership they did bild in Denmark, Emma was the owner's wife, the name of he's wife, owner of mearsk, and the star with 7 tags on, stand for 7 work days att week, the old mearks did always work 7 days evry week to he did die, also he's son, he did still work to he was 97 years old, he did die in 2012,, 98 years old, and mearsk is the biggest emplyer in Denmark, with more then 100.000 workers. he also did pay most tax in our contry,,he did pay alot..mearsk own 750 other compenyes from supermarked to rubber fatery and so on and so on..and he did give alot back to the people in Denmarke, about 1,5% of he's income he did put in a fond, so evryone cut ask for help, normaly he did give hospitals in Denmark 1 big gift evry year, a wish the hospital did wish to have, like a big expisive scanner, he did pay for it, he did pay the new opera house in Copenhagen from he's private fond, 1,5% end up to be alot of monye in 1 year, so evry years 3-400 people or compenys did get a expinsive gift. it calls A.P Møller Fonden. evryone can ask even simple young people in US if they wish to stuud in a nother contry they can ask A.P Møller for help to surport them, in 2018 40 student from Island did evryone get more then 130.000 Euro, so they can live and studdy for years and still pay there bilds. no many peopel do that.
and here you can see few of the projekts he did pay for..

Nadejda Schmidt I have seen Emma Maersk many times...E class....I love the huge EEE ships....
I work for Maersk and I really appreciate this info you have posted...Thank you so much for that....I will try to do a little more vlogging when I am back on board next month...
Они перевели производство куда-то в Азию или просто пока нет потребности в таких судах?
@Mike - Try english mate.
reminds me of my days in the Navy ...
Well thank you for your comment and I hope they are good memories and thank you for your service
@@JeffOnboard thank you sir. I too, worked in the engine room ... as an electrician. we didn't have diesel engines though, we used reactors.
Ken that's an informative comment.
Thanks for the fascinating look at the inner workings of the Montana
Cheers
Always enjoy your videos Matt & Jeff and be careful with this Coronavirus God BLESS EACH AN EVERYONE OF YOU ON YOUR TRAVEL✨🌟

Fascinating, and you do a good job of it. Thanks for your efforts.
Thanks for posting this. Complexity of the ship is unfathomable (no pun intended). Hope to travel on one of these as a passenger sometime soon.
This video is far better than that national geographic engineering marvel megastructure kind of videos which which has nothing informative 😁😁
thank you so much and I hope yu saw the most current posts I have made from the ship. I will keep tying to make even better content. I will resume in March again. Thank you so much for your input....MUCH appreciated
One thing you get with the NatGeo videos...commercials...lol
i was surprise man a boat without a crew lol...but its was amazing :)) a very nice walk on board..
AG Perez I know many people said the same thing but I purposely do not film where the people are because they will just say crazy things and I also do it to respect their privacy
It's crazy to think that these massive ships have such small crews, usually totaling no more than 25-30
The emma mearsk wich is about 400 meters can legally sail with 13 crew although they always sail with more like you said 20-30
yes we normally carry 20 unless a cadet or 2
Quite informative, interesting n challenging job, keep it up n looking forward for more video's, enjoy sailing.
Thank you for your time in for the tour of the ship videos I just about watch every one of them thanks again
Well thank you very much for watching and for your positive comment it's much appreciated and hopefully I can make some more videos in the future that you will enjoy as well thank you again
