    My family had to move to Canada because we were distillers in Salt Lake City. I love this. “Rye Whiskey” is a Goode too.

      I’ll do a cover of Rye Whiskey sometime soon! I’d actually never heard it before reading your comment, but have fallen in love with the tune!

    These fretless banjos are like listening to rain drops and the sounds as they hit pots and tin roofs. So peaceful

    I like the melody being under the higher drone. That's a neat juxtaposition on normal. 👍

      Thank you! I have only had this instrument a short time, and that wasn’t really an intentional stylistic choice, just what felt more organic to play.

    I've been quite enjoying these covers. I'm not sure if it's the instrument, the chill laid back background, your style, or some other wonderous thing, but I could listen to them all day.

      Nope. This is an old traditional song. Some of the lyrics are as old as the civil war.

      @@Miglow no one knows the original author? I had suspected it was a cover of an old song but I couldn’t find any old classic versions of it so then I thought maybe it was a newer song.

      @@darrenstettner5381 it's a very old song with many versions. There's the Clancy Brothers version from Ireland (among other Irish artists). It featured on an episode of The Waltons. Plus versions by people like Bob Dylan. I even did a bit of a deep dive based on this comment. The lyrics go back to The Rebel Soldier, around the time of the Civil War. The melody itself is older than 1800. Written down by Niel Gow, a famous historical Scottish Fiddler, who called it an old highland song. There's also songs like Rye Whiskey by Tex Ritter that are quite different but obviously share quite a bit in terms of melons and lyrics. Another "version" of the song is Jack of Diamonds.

    Nylon strings + no frets + low tuning = sounds bad

    • @talisetunes
      @talisetunes  Год назад +1

      I’ve tried tuning it a bit higher, but the strings won’t stretch that far. I may switch out the nylon strings for the next tune I do.
