  • First off - Apologies for the original VHS editing on this video tape and the poor picture quality of the channel it was recorded from, but it's still good fun to watch!
Filmed soon after Seve's 1984 win I think at St Andrews, both he and Lee Trevino take on Faldo and Aoki in a one club challenge over a few holes at the home of golf.
    Who remembers this series?

    • @winston846

Trevino was just as effective with one club, but lacked Seve's physical power. Seve could probably hit a 5 iron 30 or 40 yards past Trevino. That's where Seve's advantage was. But working the ball left/right, around the green, out of bunkers, etc., they were pretty even. And Chi Chi Rodriguez was no one club slouch, either. In today's game, Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson would probably be the best one club players.

I wonder if anyone will do a Seve film? I had the great fortune to see him play at the Honda in perhaps his final appearance there. Great memories of Seve’s dance on the 18th, later on the Sunday night someone had climbed up into the big yellow scoreboard at the 18th and was taking requests from the public below to put their name at the top above Watson, Langer , etc, and then watching these two tackle the old course with a 4/5 iron - happy days.

I've actually practiced with the following: 3 wood, 4 hybrid, 5 iron, gap wedge & putter.
Long Par 5s: 3W off the tee and then again in the fairway for 2nd approach shot, GW if less than 110, or choke all the way down on the 5 iron if greater than 130 out
Par 4s: any combination of 3W or 4H off the tee, followed by 4H, 5I or GW full swing for second approach
Par 3s are tricky because of low yardages
for sand shots: Open the GW up all the way; GW becomes SW very easily with an open clubface.

the unreliable info I have is that Seve carded a 38 Lee a 40 with only the
one club which is close to unbelievable, Seve rope hooking some of his
drives for roll etc 38 yikes for nine holes I can't come up with anyone
Nelson, Snead, Hogan who might have been able to do that. The only one
I might give a chance to, and him barely would be Bobby Locke who
was a magician with a putter and more or less owned the British Open
    in his heyday.
