I'd like to see a 921v 923v 925 comparison. Seeing they've added spin and lost a few yards for more spin and straighter flight, especially in the longer irons. It'd be interesting to see how close these are to 921's, and see how much more forgiving they are versus 921's since they've added more spin and should in theory be straighter.
P790 user here. I put this new HM Pro head side by side with my irons and the top line is thinner with similar heel to toe length. My pro said he’s seeing very good results in fittings with higher spin vs player distance irons and tighter spin window. Going to give them a try!
If you know how to get hold of Titleist so they will send me their irons to test then I'd love to review them.... They keep ignoring me as does PXG 🤦🤷👍🏻👍🏻
Absolutely, I think if this is introduced to golfers rather than they getting the standard HM in their hands due to poor handicap fitting tendencies then its a great choice for many 👍
Impressive. I'm huge Mizuno fan. Have played them for years. Even have the driver now. Played HMP 919 for 5 years. Very solid. Kept those because the lofts were still not super jacked. I get it and these still launch and are great. These still perform but the idea on maybe having to have 5 wedges is crazy. One basically being a 9 iron. I have 923 forged now and have set 45 PW, 50 gap, 54 SW and 58 LW . 925 PW at 42* ??! Wish they had a HL loft HMP set.
The new Hot Metal series although strong can be bent by around 2 degrees weak from standard and still have 1 degree adjustment in either direction in Lie 👍
Hi Jay, Thank you for the great review videos; just got fitted for JPX 925 Hot Metal HL combo 6 & 7 fli hi and 8-GW irons. Tried all three heads in different shaft configurations steel & graphite with my 70ish mph swing. The HL performed much better than the other 2. The Fli-Hi will give me a little more height and be more functional than the iron. Great experience and looking forward to getting the clubs. Even compared vs Ping and the HL still won. hopefully lessons will get my speed up a little and a few more functional yards.
Beauties. And a stunning average smash factor for all swing speeds. Well done Mizuno, nice report once more Jay. Someone keep me away from a golf store, because I fear they will feel better than my Pings too.
:-) and I'm sure I head a rumour that the price point on these compared to some recent releases, now puts them at a very competitive position. Couple that with its great performance and amazing forgiveness, its going to work for a lot of golfers 👍
I just got fitted for these last weekend , his numbers and mine are pretty close , like he said you think you hit one bad and wow lost 2 yds. ,, i tried 790's , Titleist, and a couple others , these were the most consistent , best dispersion , and longer carry than 790' s can't wait for my custom set to come in.
Will defo have much better aesthetics than even the Pro model HM. I think it won't be until early in the new year though if we were to go be the previous launch pattern of the JPX923 👍
As always Jay, informative video. My 7iron swing speed is 78mph so I guess I’m on the cusp of HM & HMP. Currently gaming T200’s and disappointed at the drop off on miss hits so a testing of these may be on the horizon.
Will make for interesting comparison to the 245? at 80 mph swing speed your numbers are nearly identical other than 3 extra yards carry. An edge in forgiveness and aesthetics but what a lovely couple of choices. I wonder how a lighter shaft (maybe 95 gram graphite) might affect the 925 - for us mid swing speed folks. Good stuff! Thanks!
Getting the right shaft for many golfers at all different speeds can make a huge difference.... For me I'm lucky that I'm not sensitive to it so delivery doesn't change.... It allows me swing at differing speeds and compare like for like.... I'm working on a process to streamline the forgiveness side of the video to help you guys understand and also myself to create the data.... 👍🏻
Hi Jay The HL 6 iron is 28° same as Pro 7 iron. How would they compare as a direct comparison? Is it just loft? I'd like you to compare those 2 at the same loft to see if HL really does go higher.
Mizuno design the HLs to have a lower CG with the larger sole etc than the HMs, more offset etc. Now whether that's true for golfers in the real world is very golfer dependent. You could do a simple test of seeing what you launch difference is with your 6 to 7 iron. Test the HL 7 iron and the HM 7 iron and see if the difference in launch is the same as your own 6 to 7 iron. Not an exact test but it's an indicator. Or, all the advanced club data for all of the above is held on my new website www.askgolfnut.com where my RUclips Members on Silver tier can access that particular Launch Factor data, also would have access to the Forgiveness Heat Maps to compare all of the irons on the database against each other 👍
Can you please add to your future performance reviews a head to head competition between the new Mizuno JPX 925 Hot Medal Pro and the Mizuno 245 Pro ... for distance, forgiveness, feel, looks and sound ;-)
How do feel about a 925 Hot Metal/Hot Metal Pro combo set. Thinking 4,5,6 HM and 7,8, 9,P, G HMP. At 70 years old I carry my 245 7-iron 155 yards. Thinking a bit more forgiveness and easier distance couldn’t hurt so planning to switch to the 925’s. Many thanks!!
Thinking that the blend would work exceptionally well.... I would however reconsider the 4 iron and replace it with a more forgiving and higher launchimg hybrid?.? 👍🏻
Thanks. I always enjoy your reviews. I’m one of those strange people who actually doesn’t mind hitting long irons and still like having a 4 iron in the bag. As an unabashed club junkie I change things up all the time so will give your suggestion some thought. I do already carry a 19 degree hybrid but certainly could add a 22. I’m not getting any younger.
Surprising less than the HMP, it must be how the design of the technology works with the specific dimensions of the HMP head. I have a new website where you can compare in detail any of the new 50 irons I have on the database for Forgiveness, Launch, Spin and Speed available to all my RUclips Members. To access it all you have to do is click on the JOIN button and select the tier you want to access and then I will give you a unique Username and Password to the new website 👍

Awesome irons. May move into these when I wear out the grooves in my 2021 Titleist T100S irons. On your last shot w 7 iron how can you get 30 feet of runout with a 48 deg decent angle ? Greens are set super firm ?
2 different sim softwares so the on screen one is GSPro into the greens so as you see the roll out is really minimal. The club head data screen is fitting into a firm fairway so there is more bounce and roll recorded in the total distance.... Best to ignore the total distance part as I just use fsx to give me the head data screen 👍🏻
Jay, I have the JPX923 HMPs. If you had to do an overall percentage of improvement in forgiveness, how much better would you say these are? (Mine seem pretty forgiving to me, and I like the looks of them much better). Thanks for all your hard work!
Any thoughts on how forgiveness and overall performance compares to the i530? I know the i530 is certainly louder and has slightly sharper lines, but head size seems similar and lofts are reasonably similar.
925 is 1.4 vs 1.38 out the middle but the i530 overall slightly more forgiving, join the ASKGOLFNUT discord and i might be able to give you more details. check the channel posts for a discord link.
Do you find these easier to turn over vs the Hot Metal? I figure with less mass in the toe due to the shorter blade length, it'd be easier to square up.
Personally I don't see it, but then I'm a terrible example of whether things like this make a difference or not as I adjust very quickly to the club in hand at the time. Most golfers will potentially show a change if they are sensitive to a CG change 👍
For that first PXG will have to answer my request for Media Partnership, of which they have interesting become silent now they are aware of my forgiveness testing technique and how the drop off data is presented..... Some may get a touch cynical as to why they haven't responded 🤔🤔😁
always like watching these videos....a lot of stats but average golfers can take a lot from these.....you can vertually pick your clubs if you know your game....what i mean is if you are hitting all over the face you would get a game improver iron and so on and so on😂😊😊😊😊😊😊
Interesting video, but I would say I game a 5,6,7 in 921 version, and as a higher speed player I just find the forgiveness wins by a mile over having slightly bigger yardage gaps between say my 7 and 8 where you can just throttle back for the distance you need.
I would say that for sure yes, but being open and honest, we have a new Iron release on the horizon from Srixon so may well be worth waiting to see what they come up with 👍🏻
For someone who is a faster swing speed but is looking for some forgiveness do you have a recommendation? (for reference I'm 95-100 with 7i last trackman report)
That's a lot of speed in a 7 iron. Passed 95mph you can find ball flights getting out of control on traditional lofted irons, 8000+rpm back spin will balloon shots high into the sky and distance and direction can become heavily wind impacted. It could take some really in-depth head and shaft fitting session to dial in something to work.
@@andy_bickley Ya crazy enough launch and spin were low/med on that report (could be something with indoor fitting maybe not sure). Fitter wasn't great, pretty classic he just had me try what he liked and didn't want to make any adjustments (loft, lie, length etc).
