  • This video is for informational purposes only. Our opinions are our own. We pay for our own trips and the resorts do NOT know that we make videos about our experiences.
We have returned from another trip to Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya (VIRM) between the Cancun and Playa del Carmen areas of Mexico. Valentin has several bars and 7 restaurants. They are part of your all-inclusive package.
Breakfast: Mar Y Tierra, Le Marche, Café Sisal, coffee shop, or room service.
Lunch: Mar Y Tierra, Le Marche, Café Sisal, Pool Bum food trucks at the main pool, Golden pool lunch, or room service.
    Dinner:
Ginger is Japanese (Sushi, A la carte, or Teppanyaki)
Mar Y Tierra is Seafood and Argentinian BBQ
Taman Sari is Southeast Asian inspired - Our favourite restaurant on the property!
    L'Alsace offers French cuisine
    L'Olivo for Italian
    La Hacienda for Mexican specialties
There are also a crepe cart and a churro cart for sweet treats.
Reservations are not required with the exception of the Teppanyaki show cooking at Ginger and there are 3 evening dress codes in place.
There is Don Miguel's Bar which is the best bar on property, in our opinion.
The Martini Bar near the lobby is great for a martini or cocktail.
There are two swim up bars in the main pool which were mediocre.
The Golden Pool has a bar and good bar service, mediocre drinks.
There is the Prive bar which is for guests who choose to upgrade to the Prive package. It is near the lobby.
There is also a great bar located next to the walkway onto the beach. Perfect for a sunset cocktail.
The Cognac Bar has extra fees and we felt it was overpriced.
Alcohol is mid-tier throughout the resort. Wine is ok.
Food and Restaurants were great. Overall, the drinks were disappointing with the exception of Don Miguel's and the Martini Bar, both of which we really enjoyed.
Management staff and style at Valentin is NOT good but the service staff are great.
At the time of this video VIRM uses a QR code to access the menus rather than an App. I have included the menus in the video.

Thank you so much. I'm really glad you find our videos informative.
Excellence is one of my favourite brands that I often compare others to. That being said, they are not as good as they were a couple of years ago.
If Excellence is what you are used to I would say Secrets Akumal, Secrets Maroma or Iberostar Grand Paraiso are of a comparable quality.

Hi Nancy, another awesome video! Your recording style is great because you don't move the camera around too fast. Your video edit is broadcast TV quality!. Do you have some professional training in photography or video?I took a lot of photography classes 20+ years ago, so I can appreciate how much work goes into producing good content. Audio is half the movie! Your voice over is well done, and you have a good radio voice. I listen to a lot of public radio, and it drives me crazy when there is a speaker that speaks with vocal fry. Keep up the good work; I can't wait to see the next one! take care

Thank you so much David! Your kind words always make me smile😊.
It's funny, I was explaining to my nephew this past week that I keep my original videos up as a reminder to how much I have learned on this journey. I knew nothing about social media or marketing. My degrees and career are in Psychology. Through COVID lockdowns (Canada's were long 🙄) I needed to learn a new skill so my brain didn't go to "mush". It was either a new language or social media. I chose RUclips. As a family group, we have always put experiences over physical 'stuff' so I thought I could help others find resorts or hotels that are right for them, based on our experiences, while I learn how to shoot film, write scripts, and create/edit videos.
It still takes me many hours to make a 15 minute video but they are slowly getting better and I sure have learned about 1000 ways that don't work 😜. I could never make a living with RUclips but I still learn something new each week and I like to feel I'm 'paying it forward'.
We are going to explore Singapore, Bali and Dubai this Fall. It will be a very different type of content for my channel but I hope to put some of it up for others to enjoy.
Thanks again for all of your wonderful comments! I appreciate them a lot. 😊
Take care and have a great weekend!

@@newtravelescapes Psychology is so cool! I remember Maslow saying that having a RUclips channel is one step away from self-actualization! I only uploaded a few videos of stray cats, so I am not there yet! Psychology was useful when I worked in Human Resources, sales, and in investing. Come to think of it, finding the right resort is like finding the right treatment for a patient. Not every resort is going to work for everyone. I hope you put up videos of all your trips. Safe travels.

@@davidng407 you're right David! Psych is useful for many things. I haven't figured out how to use it for my investing yet but I see certain stocks go up or down and then say to myself ...' duh should've seen that'! Lol!! 😆 When the world felt crazy during COVID I decided on videos to help people not waste their money when we finally were cleared to travel again. Good skill for me to learn as I knew less than diddly-squat and hopefully helps others too.
HR is a very tough job. Kudos to you!
      Have a great weekend!

Hi thanks for the great video. I'll be checking out the other one right after this comment/Q. I was wondering if tips are included? If so or not, how much do you recommend at restaurants, bars and room service? Thanks in advance!

    • @newtravelescapes
      @newtravelescapes  7 месяцев назад +2

Hi! They say tips are included but people do tend to add their own on top of whatever is included.
For us, we tip in pesos but many people also tip in USD.
At the bars it depends on which bar. Often just $20 MX (about $1 USD) for a couple of drinks.
      Room service $5 USD
      Dinner $10-$15 USD.
      Buffet breakfast - often $0.
      Food truck lunch $2-$5
      A LA carte breakfast / lunch $5
A couple of dollars at the coffee shop etc.
It isn't over the top tipping$ like in the USA and Canada. It is really up to you and how good your service was as well as how many people are at your table. When we have exceptional service we may go higher and if it is bad we go lower or nothing. We didn't have any bad service at Valentin, the staff are great (with the exception of management).
I often read people's Facebook responses to "how much do you tip" as these crazy high numbers but if you pay attention you see that people seem to exaggerate those numbers when behind their keyboard.
      Hope that helps! 😊

No Grey Goose? I was there in April and they had Grey Goose then. The Valentin has always had Grey Goose vodka. Not at the beach bar but at several others. Did you ever have a cocktail at Don Miguel's? You just have to ask for it. It may not be on display. Le Marche buffet was the best for us. The service and variety was exceptional. You are 100% right on the drinks. It was hit and miss. I sent many drinks back and even when you are standing at the bar asking for Kaluah they will pour you the well shite coffee liquor thinking you do not see that!? It was the most disappointing part of the stay. My first martini was disgusting.

Hi! Couldn't find Grey Goose anywhere, even Don Miguel's.
I'm glad you enjoyed the buffet. That is great! We enjoyed Le Marche our first time to VIRM but not this past trip. As a group, we felt that Excellence and Secrets do it much better and Iberostar Grand (down the beach) is a step above them all. Many of the chafing dishes had dried out food in them. We saw people grabbing bagels and croissants with their hands because there were only two tongs for the bread table (or at least I am hoping it was the lack of utensils and not a lack of manners)🤔. Often the egg dishes were cold. However the lady cooking eggs to order was amazing!
You're right about that coffee liquor 😜. It must be mandated by management or something to try and slip in the cheap stuff but I'm just guessing.
They are still a great resort for food overall 😊

Ive never been to Cancun and me and my wife are celebrating our anniversary and my birthday. We booked this hotel because of the good reviews but do you happen to know if they have top shelf tequila or even crown royale ? Or are there other adults only/all inclusive resorts you recommend?

    • @newtravelescapes
      @newtravelescapes  6 месяцев назад +1

Hi! They have mid-shelf alcohols. Nothing special but not bad at all. Not sure about Crown Royal but I believe Don Miguel's Bar has Red Label.
The alcohol selection is better elsewhere, honestly. The activities are great at VIRM and the restaurants are very good.
We have been to many of the resorts in the area. Some of our favorites are Excellence Riviera Cancun, Iberostar Grand Paraiso, Live Aqua, Beloved, Secrets Maroma, and Atelier Playa Mujeres.
Hope you have a great trip 😊

      @newtravelescapes  5 месяцев назад +1

Yes, the beach is rocky in places. We found it a bit better getting in further down in front of the Emerald Suites.
With the sargassum problem we didn't spend too much time in the sea. Kinda gross.
