- The Tetris® 99 41st MAXIMUS CUP event runs from 12 a.m. PT on June 28 to 11:59 p.m. PT on July 1. To participate, you’ll need to be a Nintendo Switch Online member* and play the Tetris 99 online mode during the event period. You’ll earn event points based on your placement in each match. Once you’ve accumulated a total of 100 event points, a new theme will unlock, featuring art, music and Tetrimino designs inspired by the F-Zero 99 game!

I’ve always wondered who I’ve been racing against in F-Zero 99.
I’ll be honest, I wouldn’t have imagined funny Tetris blocks.

It was announced on their nintendo twitter. It looks like there will be some limited time events (which might also include Tetris 99 as part of the collaboration)

Yep, they could’ve done so much more with all of these themes. I mean it just boils down to playing Tetris with different game music playing with a static background picture.

Kinda wish the wallpaper moved, would’ve been fun.
Was I the only one who thought the racers would be racing in the background and as people got eliminated the cars would crash and the last player would win the race.
I guess you get what you pay for. And I would if they did this as proper DLC, make the themes more like they are in Tetris Effect.

Wow! This happens only a week after returning to gaming after a ~2 year hiatus due to school and by extension renewing my Nintendo Switch Online membership. For a moment, upon initially seeing the thumbnail in my subscription feed, I was convinced they were doing something special for F-zero 99 to reinvigorate interest since most games are populated with CPUs and the playerbase has decreased substantially since launch (even though I just started playing F-zero 99 a week ago and didn't have a direct experience for what the game atmosphere was like on launch). But yeah, just wanted to say it is weird timing for Nintendo to be advertising F-zero 99 after not much support for the game for awhile.

Is it just me or is the BGM quality low/a bit off? I'm also kind of disappointed in the choices too. Mute City is a given, but I think they could have used Death Wind for the 50-11 theme. Heck, it might actually work better for 10-1. Otherwise, Silence/Fire Field would make sense too since they're the more exclusive final tracks in a cup. I guess Red Canyon could work for 50-11 as well.

Back when Pac-Man 99 existed, I was hoping for a simultaneous Cross-promotion between both games with Pac-Man 99 having a Tetris theme and Tetris 99 having a Pac-Man theme. Happy for this though.

This is the most meta thing ever
This is exciting because Tetris 99 now has a skin based on F-Zero 99, another 99-ification. I even like that the F-Zero 99 skin uses the maze royale's "KO" voice clip from F-Zero 99 when you defeat another player. It only ramps up the calls for Nintendo, Arika, and Bandai Namco to make a Pac-Man 99-themed skin for Tetris 99.
With Windows Movie Maker, I have been using Pac-Man 99's countdown sounds and announcer voice clips on various videos of Tetris 99 and F-Zero 99, using the maze royale's "KO!" voice clip whenever the video's player defeated another player (or in the case of F-Zero 99, a Gray Bumper). I was even coming up with Tetris 99-style music/sound schemes from other games because it would be awesome if Tetris 99 had skins based on other games. The F-Zero 99 skin is awesome because it unites two battle royale games!

Seeing a 99 game, collaborating a 99 game sounds like a fever dream to me. They could've titled this event as the original F-Zero game, but they just took the recent. I wish there was at least an F-Zero 99 original track playing in battles, so that would've made a whole lot of sense.
