    Being fast to punch is very common; what is not very common is reacting on time to block opponents' punches. This is what made Bruce who he was. No body could touch him because he would react so quickly to any movement his opponent would do. On top of that, he had amazing power in his fists and legs.

    • @mrt445
      @mrt445 3 года назад +2

      Funny you should say that because Tommy moves extremely slow when it comes to reacting to punches, even in the choreographed fights when he's facing multiple opponents.

      @@mrt445 yes but as we all know fighting multiple opponents in the real world is next to impossible. So sure it’s going to looked forced or the timing will be off. I have seen him do full contact demos where he is totally on the ball.

    • @mrt445
      @mrt445 3 года назад

      @@anthonybrogan390 I've seen his one on one demos where he tells the guy to punch or kick at a certain speed then he'll beat them to the punch or kick, but even in those demos he's not really moving at all.... The only demo where he moves around is the multiple opponents demo and in that you can see that his foot speed and head movement are not fast, eventhough it should be because he'll know when to anticipate attacks in the choreography.
      I'm aware that fighting multiple opponents is impossible, that's not the issue I'm concerned about.
      Even his defence when blocking moves is so off, and the kicks he throws look awkward and impractical, especially the flick/twist kick he does where he strikes using the outer side of his foot.
      I recall in one group fight sequence he put his hand out to block a low kick a few seconds before the kick was even thrown and it looks really off.
      I think if he had a light sparring videos where he displayed his foot speed, reflexes and defence against a live opponent who's at least trying to pressure him then more people would be impressed.
      I think he only has fast hands and single kicks, but he's lacking in other areas. Also with sparring we'll be to see his power against a live opponent. Your punches appearing hard on a heavy bag or pads means nothing in an actual fight.

    Jesse had great knowledge & experience....He always understood simplicity as he knew what Bruce was going after in Seattle.....Tommy once told us an interesting story......In his younger years Tommy had experience as a boxer.....Because of this he would put together all these combinations of jabs & hooks which he was very good at... Perhaps after studying with Ted who was more Sports fighting this had actually been encouraged......But in the context of teaching streetfighting Jesse saw this & just held out his right arm..... showed Tommy ONE extension.........FINGER JAB......In his quiet calm voice Jesse said....'Tommy, this is all you need....No complexity (combinations).....Just Simple...ONE SHOT to decisive target....Over & out'.

    Master Sifu Tommy Carruthers I‘m in love with every frame of motion you‘re demonstrating for combat. I admire your talent and watch these rare videos of yours all the time over and over again and learn always something new in effectiveness by only watching these short clips. It‘s like a sum up version of the best way to end a fight. I wish you sir would make a video to explain how to endure such fatal blows with your bare hands. If an amateur like me tries to reproduce these punches you show, I bet everything that I‘d tear my hands totally unable to fight through the battle. Also your sidekick is insane which would send a man flying through the air like in a car accident. I always wanted to reach you since my childhood days, but unfortunately I dont’t know how as I’m not living in Ireland. Can you tell or make a video for conditioning the best and most efficient way? Also the iron palm technique would interest me. I had a dream of you Sifu teaching me that Iron Palm technique and you were extremely strict with the small detailed motions and scolded me all the time and I had to repeat the movements over and over again. Also how can someone achieve your powerlevel? Like in an interview with a student of yours from Frankfurt you said it‘s a good start if you manage 100 kg bench pressing totally controlled and clean 15x. I tried this and after first repetition it was clear to me this is my max. power I can press and was totally exhausted. I‘m not very tall 1,70 m and weigh about 70 kg (67-75 kg max.) and I can‘t imagine to build this power without getting more mass. I hope you can help with a step by step training schedule. I hope you stay healthy Sifu Tommy and hopefully I can meet you one day, not only in my dreams. There was also another dream where I saw Bruce Lee in an undergound train stations tunnel system, leaning with his left side on the wall pressing against the wall and Bob Wall sparring with him like in his movie. Bob Wall used both hands and Lee only his right hand. He managed to beat him in matter of seconds, so that he couldn‘t use his arms. Then he said with a high self esteem: „That‘s only my one hand (my hands) and I still have my feet (kicks).“ There are certain stretches and presses with own body weight, which you’re only able to learn when pressing against the wall as a help. As seen in this videos:
    m.ruclips.net/user/shortsoRdQdBAEkA0?feature=shared
    The very best elite army soldiers from Turkey for example have an enourmous strength, but I think it needs mass as seen in this rare video:
    m.ruclips.net/user/shortsF7x5QQOGUl4?feature=shared
    I hope you can tell a calculation for everyone‘s perfect mass they should have. Hopefully you‘ll have a long legacy! My best wishes from Austria (Europe, no Kangaroos in Austria ^^)

    such skills..people forget how Huge a statement that is! and that there are Also people on this planet living in anonymity, not seeking fame nor attention..
    not interested in belts and trophies,media or public demonstrations who have developed their skill to extraordinary levels as well ,some beyond anything that we have ever seen..yet these people are Unknown to the public and prefer to keep it that way.. we know the ones that are Famous, in the media,movies, competitions ect ..we know nothing of those who remain out of the public eye..

    • @KnightEnd25

      Exactly people like these are extremely dangerous, especially if they mastered a combat style. They already intuitively understand what works best for their own bodies. Also Emin Boztepe f.e. grew up with thousands of street fights throughout his entire life, even though he lerned Wing Chun he definetely is a frightening oponent to face. Some people you can already see with their build physics that they have certain advantages. With Emin you see his freaking long hands and even though the shoulders rest locked they‘re still extremely long, so they automatically have a very long reach and leverage. With Tommy Crruthers you can see his hand size is unproportionally big to the rest of his body, which indicates he has strong grip and punching power. Both of them in their prime were reslly frightening. Even the FBI learns from them. William Cheung a sparring partner of Bruce got trashed by Emin Boztepe and it looked like a brawl in schoolclasses. That happens, if they stick only to Wing Chun. Even the Gracie Brothers were afraid to challenge Emin Boztepe. I guess without bragging It‘s called: „Ne mutlu Türküm DNA.“ To fight you also need the heart of a Lion.

      @Nic777 Depends on whether the attacker is paying attention ....As Tommy once said -'If they are paying attention send them the wrong way to create a decisive target' (in the way you just suggested.)..'If they are NOT paying attention you ALREADY HAVE your decisive target'....Tommy's 'trapping' is not locked in like in Wing Chun...It is DETACHED like a Fencer

    • @walterevans2118
      @walterevans2118 4 года назад +1

      @Nic777 Tommy is a practical Martial Artist who has spent his life trying to refine Bruce's Art. He has reached a level & an age where he doesn't really care what people think of him because he has nothing to prove to macho young upstart types who want to convince themselves & others how 'tough' they are, or to win a TMA vs MMA debate on which is better when the two have entirely different objectives (Sports contest victory / street life saving survival)...He grew up in the East End of Glasgow in the 1970s when violence on the streets there was much more prevalent than it is today,,,worked as a bouncer there for several years dealing with very violent situations battle testing his nerve as well as his physical skills...There have been idiots in the past who wanted to believe he was a 'fake' who were ,shall we say,, 'taught a lesson in humility' when they got on the wrong side of him at the wrong time but i believe he regrets stuff like that looking back now he's older....The reason he is so passionate about teaching realistic JKD defence for the street is because in Glasgow as a citizen & as a bouncer he saw the full HORROR of what happens in dangerous environments...Particularly in things like 'knife defense' rubbish taught out there & with pack attacks...And also where people he knew who were not trained by him went to the pavement & when they tried to go to the ground as a strategy like in MMA 2 of them were kicked to death by gangs of multiple opponents. Tommy's just a Pragmatist....On the street he had to be to survive.

    IMITATION costs nothing even if it looks cool..above all it's bruce Lee's screen fighting techniques and manners. It doesn't work...very fast but can't be eniugh to beat up serious opponent...you'll never knock down someone by such cat like punches or kicks

      Not true at all. Speed and timing alone can knock someone down so if it is coupled with descent power it will get the job done. I'm speaking from experience

      Speed increases power by a factor of 4. Look it up. Its basic physics. Thats why the impact of a 1 ounce bullet can knock a 250 lb person off their feet.
      Landing first is always a good idea. And It doesnt take much power at all to turn someones lights out. Especially if they dont see the punch.
      Accuracy and speed matter a great deal.

      @@musicismyreligion5213 Nonsense. Speed increase of a human punch barely increases any power. You say speed increases power by 4. What speed? You give no speed increase in that statement. You just say " speed " increases power by 4 ? Lol. You have to say WHAT AMOUNT of speed gives a four times increase. And you compare a bullet to a human hand? A human's punch is NOWHERE near the velocity of a damn bullet. Get a clue. The difference in actual power of a normally fast human punch and a SUPER fast human punch....is very little.
