- TEAM SGG PATREON / somegadgetguy AceMagic AX16 Pro laptop review! I'm a huge fan of mini PCs and this strategy of selling older laptop processors inside small desktop computers. AceMagic is trying the same formula with a laptop, and the specs are pretty decent.
Unfortunately, the brand has also been dealing with QA issues, and some models of AceMagic PC have been shipped with malware preinstalled... Like this laptop I got...
So... How should we deal with this?

With Walmart recently selling the MacBook Air M1 for $699 this is a hard sell with all the hoops you need to jump through. Outside of Apples business practices and personal feelings the MacBook is a great deal for those home PC needs.
M series chips are still some of the most exciting new upgrades for laptops.
@@SomeGadgetGuy I have an M2 Macbook Air that I'm quite happy with, but I'm also VERY excited for the future of Windows on ARM and the Snapdragon chips to shake up the PC laptop market.
I really tjink this is the hard to compare part of the snapdragon x elite... price... m3 starts at $1099, but m1 is $400-500 used and 699 at walmart.
@@futureitshere Having upgraded from an M1 MacBook Pro to an M2Pro, the improvement of newer Apple Silicon chips is stunning for a generational upgrade, but the M1 still pulls plenty of weight with ease for average workloads, and the build quality of Apple is still unrivalled in the commodity PC wastelend.
Thanks for the review. I just ordered this laptop this morning. The malware thing is a worry. I am semi tech savvy, but am not looking forward to have to go through all of that. You have helped a lot. Thanks❤
Honestly... One of the best in-depth reviews I've ever had the pleasure to watch. Literally answered all of my questions and more..
This is not an isolated incident. This company has been doing this for a year now, and they actively delete reviews on Amazon warning about this. At the same time they claim that this only affected "the first shipment" - and they've been saying this for 12 months. So at this point it's likely intentional.
Personally i'd go the gamers nexus route and tell everyone to stay clear of this brand.
I've never noticed the Vegeta in the background before now 😅. I'm sure it's been there forever though. All that aside, this seems like a well balanced/all rounder type of laptop. Seems like it would be really good for someone who needs to do a little bit of everything.
Thanks for this video im reviewing a computer now so i will add this test in my review wow i really appreciate the heads up
It's something to keep an eye on for us reviewers. Never just log in and setup your personal info on a review device.
@@SomeGadgetGuy thanks for the heads up
Definitely makes me a little nervous. I've been following some of these lower cost options from ace magician and mini forum. In fact I was really considering one of their mini PCs that had like a sixth gen ryzen, but ultimately got an Xbox studio instead.
Man, the ACE PC i have is such a little MONSTER of a machine. There really are some killer sales out there for good computers, but now I feel I need to tack on a "buyer beware" to some of these brands.
Interesting, just had a batch of these sent to the Amazon warehouse I'm in and I had never heard of this brand until this week, and now there's a video from you for it!
not sure if MSRP matters if the price the manufacturer says for that is way too high for instance. I'd compare it to other things with similar specs (and especially if that MSRP is not typically the price but its more in that realm of the sale price ... like its "always on sale" ... i think that COMBINED with devices with similar specs should be a reasonable target for comparing it to other things
Would a factory reset remove the malware/virus?
Can this handle video editing ? I only shoot video on my iPhone 12 Pro Max
Is this device touch screen? Thanks for the awesome review.
Nope.
Great video bro 900 plus dollars MSRP is a bit on the high end side. Hopefully the price will drop
Interestingly I clicked on the link and it took me to a 1600 dollar price but with an $800 coupon and a 20% off coupon. If they let you stack that ends up being like $560. I didn't check to see if the coupon stack though cuz I'm not actually going to buy it!
Pardon I can't do basic math. That would come to 639. $1599 -800 -20 percent of 800 (160).
@@michaelcorcoran8768 wow
Yeah I just double checked the amazon listing, and that's a ridiculous price for this machine, but it's not really an earnest MSRP. It just makes it look like a CRRRRRRAAAAAAAZZZYYYYY SALE!
😐
could u test the wifi on laptops i seen some not work well at all.
Do you have a video available on how to remove the mallard? Or showing us all that you did and how you did it.
Talked about it here. ruclips.net/video/oH2R3o-EbTA/видео.html
Great points at the second half which that is made even harder when most Laptops good ones even moveable PC are around $1k these days... Like I had the hardest time finding a $100 one and an $4k one that fits my and my Grandma's needs... I did with an Ebay refurbished Dell(RThey even have Sub $30 old office PC by the way!) and a maxed out top of the line aleinwear custom ordered... Like laptops are as cheap as desktops at the high end and desktops are cheaper at the low end right now...
It does make the shopping and comparing a little trickier right?
At this point, even if they did send out review units without malware in the future, I would still avoid them. They will almost certainly treat the review units with care while at the same time willingly allowing malware on their regular shipped units.
This laptop can run well emulation about....gamecube.,ps2, ps3, switch?
I got it on sale yesterday for $420 .... NOT JOKING did not make that connection till today 4/21, but it was marked down from 1699.. I thought for specs under 500 was great. i hope its good
That's a GREAT price for this hardware!
Lenovo laptops are another laptop with MSRP that differ greatly to when they go on sale. The reviewer Just Josh says something to the effect of at MSRP, look at these other laptops instead. If it's on sale, then it can be competitive with other laptops.
Ignoring the major issue with windows having malware, I think it's fair to judge these at their promotional value when the manufacturer sends them to you especially if they have the day of and week after sales prices. Id encourage people setting friends and families up on machines like these, my mom is using my college MacBook pro which has a 4790hk as her daily driver so these things can be long haul solutions for friends and family
On the malware, I honestly will never purchase a computer or phone that isn't from a big brand for fear if this exact issue. I know I miss out on much better pricing, but the smaller the company the less control they have over their supply chain.
Hz Rate of the screen is 60hz, 144hz or 240hz?
60hz
I'd have blown Windows 11 off this anyhow after the recent revelation of their most recent blunder; however.... I don't run Windows 10 even that much, just for a few games I can't emulate. I get new hardware like this when I need it, blow off Windows and install Debian.
But in this case, I have a 2 TB nvme from an older laptop (just recently died) that's going into this one.
The hardware specs look nice for the price and USB -C charging in a plus in my book as well.
It's the best way to treat Ace Magic right now. It's a laptop you need to install your own OS.
That Vivo x90 Pro looks really good for content creation
It's been a champ.
I tend to wipe the HDD when I buy a new one and install fresh, it also means I don't get all the junk they installed
I'm probably going to be recommending that to more folks.
@@SomeGadgetGuy I would like to do that but I don't know if I'll be able to install of the pilots needed afterward. what do you advise to find the right ones ?
AceMalware strikes again 🤦 besides, at this MSRP, many competitors offer a lot more
Why does the lighting look so good in this video? Did you change the lights? 😏
Firstly, maybe compare both the $500 competition and the $900 competition. I can't see how this machine could compete at $900. That's a real shame about the virus. I would expect most potential buyers wouldn't be able to flash as you did.
Neat. So it's for my kids
Well... This would be a respectably powerful machine for kids. It's outclassing most school issued laptops. But I would recommend scanning it with something like MalwareBytes.
That's twice as much as my laptop. 17" hp. 5500u...
It's also the reason Poco phones are suspiciously cheap despite the almost flagship-grade hardware. Xiaomi put ads in MIUI for POCO so that all the money generated from showing the ads can lower down the phone's RRP.
A Ryzen 7 chip laptop at that price? That sounds like a good deal imo.
It's a punchy little performer.
Honestly looks like the baby of a alienwear and an Macbook air... NOt a bad thing asw long as you can get it for sub $600.
I would just reformat that laptop and put alt-tech over windows.
magician
Are they doing Macy's shenanigans with the MSRP? That is, marking it way up so they can have near continuous 40% off sales for the clicks? That is a marketing tactic....
Looking at the current Amazon price...
Hi, can we play gta rp with this computer?
They have done this for over a year now. And are still lying about it. Dont buy this brand!
I whent from a high tower desktop to a Mobile Laptop becuase I'm just tierd of habving to deal with the weight of a Nivida TRX XX90 card desktop when it breaks... When I can just warrenty a laptop and canacaully move it around... Also my alien wear laptop from 2015 or so has out lived 2 massive custom desktops... So yeah I whent back to aelin wear becuase they just work atleast their laptops and they have everything I need to do what I do... Suck that you can buy a true RTX 4090 laptop card though... like the ones that exsit are like beafed up desktop 4080s... Still a bit over kill right now for me but man is the speed of rendering nice.
