I am a convert and many years ago I would also say "I know the church is true" but as I heard it repeated over and over I really thought about what I felt when I heard it: there seemed only to be feeling behind it among converts. I never say it now. I say "I know Jesus is the Christ...". Thank you for speaking of this. Wonderful lesson!
The members today also believe that we will be saved by the church or the covenant taken within the church. If we are saved in the Messiah alone, why do we need the church or 300 different Churches?
The saints will take that verse as primary facie evidence that the Gadianton robbers shouldn't be contended with because God gave them the government. If God gives governments to men then the Declaration of Independence has no standing. It is always the right of the People to throw off those chains/forms to which they are accustomed although they shouldn't be for light and transient reasons. A nation of kings and priests will not be governed by Lucifers roman civil law attorney BAR trash from the City of London. They will govern themselves and have God be their King.

Contention is not of Christ but of the devil. There are better ways to seek truth. The Spirit uses not dogmatic accusations to teach.
