- When you're mowing, are you tired of holding down the pto switch while backing up, so the tractor wont die? For me, that got old fast, and was more of a safety hazard than a benefit, because I was thinking of my finger on the switch moreso than running someone over. For me, Im better off focusing on backing up, not holding a switch down and backing up. The video shows the steps involved in disabling it, here is the steps...
1. Turn key on but dont start.
2. With your right middle finger, press AND HOLD DOWN the display mode button. (The button in the top middle, that has little windshield wiper symbols on it). So with this button HELD DOWN, the password you will need to enter with the turn signals is RLLRLR.
3. The screen now should say "ECU". Press the right turn signal 3x to see "ICC".
4. Select ICC by pressing the display mode button.
5. Right arrow (turn signal) to 014.
014 will say 01, if RIO is enabled.
6. Switch to edit mode by pressing the hazard button on and off within 2 seconds.
7.The right arrow changes the number, the left arrow switches to the other number, so press the left arrow to move the cursor to the 1.
8. Press the right arrow until it says 0.
Now both numbers should say 00.
9. Press and hold the display mode switch 3 seconds to exit.
10. For the change to take effect, Shut the key off and wait a few seconds, then start.
Special note: If you have error codes displayed, momentarily press the display mode switch to acknowledge the error.
Did this to my 2020 model today and it worked perfectly the only difference is when you get to the 01 it’s actually 301 just make it 300 and get the same results. Thank you.

Just did this to a 2016 3039R and while the ICC menu is only 1 click the rest worked perfectly. It was disabled when I bought he tractor and had the dealer install the snow blower for the first time. Just got the tractor back from a 400 hour and it was enabled again. Different dealer so who can tell. I wonder if it defaults back if the battery is disconnected. Cheers and thanks --

Tried 000 then tried 300 neither works 2020 2038r. The tractor randomly started shutting off with PTO engaged when going in reverse.. been using the tractor for months then randomly shut down one time I hit reverse and it hasn’t stopped doing it since and can’t get it to stop. My Deere seems like it’s a wiring nightmare as this isn’t the first sensor/switch issue Iv had.. only 70 hours on it
I have a 2021 3046R. I just did this and it worked magnificently. The only difference is that instead of 01 being displayed in the lower right corner of the screen, it said 301. I just changed it to 300 and the problem was fixed! I didn't even need to unplug any sensors or do any bypasses. Thank you so much!
The RIO function on our 2022 model year 2032R was so frustrating. After watching your video, we were able to disable it. What relief!! That feature was our biggest pet peeve with this tractor. Having the engine shutdown from 2400 RPM every time the reverse pedal was pressed must be harmful to the engine. Thank you so much.
Thanks! I finally got this to work. I was pressing down the middle button to long. So, for anyone struggling like I was, don't hold down the middle button long. This process makes mowing SO much better!

Thank you. I have a 2021 2032R and twice while on the creek bank I touched the reverse drive pedal and the engine shut down and me and the tractor almost went swimming. On my tractor in 014 the code reads 301 and I changed it to 300. This now allows me to use the reverse pedal when the mower is running without killing the engine. The factory set up is dangerous as the tractor just shuts down. I am surprised that JD has not been taken to court over this. Anyway , many thanks my wife will now use the new tractor as it operates the same as our old 4115. TonyK.
I have a 2017 John Deere 2038R, and before I checked back to see your response, THAT is exactly what I tried as I had seen it recommended by others and "jumper wire" worked perfectly. My 3rd year of putting up with these small PIA issues and I am looking forward to my new "modifications". Of course the final line is "SAFETY FIRST" and I don't intend to do anything stupid! I had ROI shutdown locked in and mid PTO blades would never start, rear PTO alone would run fine. I used this procedure, and it took the ROI shutdown locked in, completely out of circuit (took me a few attempts). I still have some residual muscle memory when backing up and go for the yellow button then, laugh, OH YEAH HOW NICE !!
This worked flawlessly on a 2020 2032r. The key is to not hold the display button too long. Took me a few tries realize that. But all set to go now! Thank you!

I followed the directions as posted on my 2020 JD 2032r and it worked as stated. The number was 301 on the display until the change was made. Thank you. Fun tractor to use with the 60' blower, but a real hassle on remembering to toggle the pto switch every time i reverse. This update will sure make a difference.
I just sold my 1025R to my daughter and bought a 2038R. THANK YOU for posting the RIO switch disable option. This makes my already awesome tractor even more awesome!!!

Thank you so much for making this video. I just picked up my 2038r and mowed for the first time. How freakin annoying that RIO is on this thing. My X300 would just shut off the PTO but the 2038 shut off the PTO AND the engine. What kind of genius at JD thought that was a good idea. Talk about a way to kill customer satisfaction. That was just not acceptable. Thanks again!!!
The Rio idea doesn't even make sense on paper.
If you think the RIO is annoying while mowing, try having it shut down the engine when you don't quite get the RIO switch mashed with gloved fingers, resulting in the thing shutting down and rolling backwards down a substantial slope while trying to blow snow in a zero-degree blizzard! (Thankfully my 2032R has a dealer-installed Curtis cab, although it also has about ten dealer-installed coolant leaks from the Curtis heater which I'm still chasing down.) Thanks so much for sharing this information!
Ah, thank you for this video Mr Flintsrone21! I’ve got the Euro model 2036R here in NZ (2038R In North America) and a not quite the same procedure to disable the RIO but what you’ve posted gave me enough information to figure out the differences myself! RIO disabled on my 2036R!

Some have commented below that they couldn't get this to work on their newer than 2017 tractors. Good to hear it worked well for you!

Thank you so much for this video brother. I live in a very hill area of east central Ohio and bought a new 2032r last fall. I mowed for the first time with it a few days ago and had the tractor shut off on my several times mowing the slopes. Had it been my wife mowing bad things could have happened. I have no clue why they think have that implemented is safe.

Not that I know if. Seems like something was a little different but it was no big deal. I just scrolled thru and found the settings you listed and it went pretty smooth. Took me about 2 minute.

I took delivery of a 2018 2032R this morning and I have already disabled the RIO. The only hiccup I had was I was holding down on the display mode button too long after entering the code. after that everything worked great.

On my 2021 3046R, it has 201 and I changed it to 200. I also had to press the button a few more times to get to ICC. It did work though.
You are correct. The blinker does shut off, however, I am still unable to reach the area I need to in order to perform this. It does the same thing everytime I try.

Is there a way to disable the seat interlock through the menu like you did the RIO? I know you can short out the actual wires, but thought since there was a way to do the RIO in the menu, there might be a way to do the seat also?
I got a 2017 2032R as a side deal to a house I bought. We installed the 72 in deck and for 2 hours everything worked, until the lift stopped working (command cut)(The lift system even according to JD should be recalled as many of them that have broke). Some facts: MOTOR stayed running when reverse pedal was pushed, BUT PTO stopped (which seems ok to me). It was at the end of the mowing season so we removed the mower deck and put the "LONG drive shaft" for the snow blower on and NOW I have NO mid pto working. Rear pto works but not mid pto. Orange handle on left of seat does nothing. John Deere acts like I am asking them how the space shuttle works when I try and get help from them. Anyone have any clues? Some video's say tie wrap the reverse switch BUT we had a running motor and a dis engaged pto on the mower portion (which seems right to me) when reverse pedal was pushed while mowing. The same gear box that worked for the mid mower SHOULD be working for the snow blower in my way of seeing things. HELP.

great video. you seem to have some engineering knowledge about these tractors, and i noticed when you were going thru the menu options you passed "HOC", do you by chance know anything about calibrating the HOC/command cut actuator's heights?

Glad to hear it! Now you can drive your tractor safer since you dont have to steer, hold a switch, and look while backing up, less stuff to have to do = more focus on the other things you are doing (in my humble opinion)

One question: When the PTO (mower deck) is engaged and you put the tractor in reverse, does the mower stop running only, or does the tractor engine stop running? This video seems clear that the entire tractor dies in its tracks. That's ridiculous! Others seem to say that only the deck stops turning until you go forward again. I think I know the answer, but just seeking clarity. Thanks a lot for this video!
Fred can I set the Cruise Control on my 3039R too Reverse even just A range or low range so I can snow blow in reverse and set the Cruz control and if you tap the brake it will shut off the same as forward Cruz ??
Is this possible? I asked my John Deere dealer. They said they actually got a hold of John Deere and John Deere won’t do it because they say it’s a safety issue or concerns.
But I would almost think there’s a setting in the computer like you did on the real and that helped tremendously thank you because I do mow with my brand new 3039R and backing up is essential !
Of course everyone backs up when they mow. Let me know what you think ?

In case this happens to anyone else. I unhooked the battery all night then drove it forward for about a mile. With the research I did I came up with that the tractor thought it was in reverse that’s why it wouldn’t turn on

I bought a very thick manual on it, that breaks the tractor down to every little piece. It's in there.

Tried this on my 2022 John Deere 2032R tractor and it did not work. Called my dealership and they told me the computer in the tractor has been upgraded so users can't modify the RIO switch.

Where did you find this valuable info? I want to know how to start a regen cycle a little early. The last couple the message came up telling me to do a parked regen. In both cases I was heading to the barn because it had just started raining and I waned to put it away. So far it’s wanted to do this around 80% on the DPF. I’m at 73% today and hope to do three hours of brush cutting Saturday. I want it to do its thing during that and not as I’m heading to the shed at end of day.
I bought a big expensive repair book on the tractor. How to do the parked regen is in your manual. Its pretty easy to do, the rio in this video is a little tricky you have to be an acrobat to push different buttons a certain way which is why I made the video. If I put a special note in my manual of a trick I wanted to remind myself to make regen easier I'll let you know later today. Let me know if you dont have a manual and I'll walk you thru the regen. My neighbor was wondering what the hell I was doing, as curiosity got the best of her with the tractor just sitting there regenning at higher rpms. I think it has to just sit there to be able to do it. If i recall right, took about 15 minutes. Supposedly archoil fuel additive will reduce amt of regens you'll have to do

I have a 2019 2025r . You think this procedure will work on it and is it perminant ? You don't have to repeat it ever again ? At least your pto switch is on the fender - mine is just right of the steering wheel . VERY poor design .
On mine, I havent had to repeat again. Would be best if you read the comments, as some have said "hey buddy, it didnt work", and others have explained what you may need to do. It could go just like my 2017, or you may have to select something slightly different, as I have seen comments about that. Definitely leave feedback how it went, so others can learn from you. Be careful, you are messing with the tractors settings! I found this "rio" feature much more unsafe, than safe, not to mention annoying! Which is why I made the video
Worked just fine on my 2019 2038R but now the mowing deck will not go down to desired setting. I really do not wanna go to the dealership. any help is greatly appreciated!!!!
How far down does it go? That's odd, those are 2 different systems. Maybe you changed a different setting?
@@FredFlintstone21 It is stuck at 6 and will not move. I agree that something changed in the computer settings could have pushed something by accident. Wish I could reverse it somehow or know how to manipulate the system as to not go to the dealer. I would guess you could to it the same way as the RIO fix if only knew how.
Ok so I take it, it worked fine right before you made the change. If your system is identical to mine, tractor is running, you're on the seat, you rotate dial to different height and then hit the lever and you see the arrow move on the dash. On mine, I've got if I recall right (not by my tractor right now), 3 switches next to the dial and lever, one switch shuts off front hydraulics for lifting the snowblower, so that is off in summer time. Another switch is yellow PTO, and for the life of me I cant think of what that one is. Just wondering if something is shut off that moves the deck.
Amazing.. and at first I thought you were pulling our leg and poking fun at the RIO. Pitiful that we would have to go to these lengths to get a tractor to work for us the way we want it to work.
Sad too that Deere (and the industry) have to attempt to rig our tractors to be driven by dumb people in order to protect their stupidity. Thank the lawyers for these changes.
Need help.....I'm sure I did something wrong but it did not work and now when I enter the passcode it changes to the display mode and the right blinker light comes on. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you figured it out yet? If you press the blinker again it should shut off. I typed up the steps if you click on the description of my video. Hope this helps! Electronics can be so frustrating at times. I remember it was tricky to shoot this video and press multiple buttons at the same time

Both features came with the tractor after I got it back the 2nd time. I brought the tractor home with just the loader, then the dealer ordered the command cut mower, 59" snowblower, and single point hook up. Have you picked up your tractor yet?
Not yet, our house is still under construction but we should move in soon, in about 7 weeks. Can't wait. At this point, I'm pretty sure I will either get the 1025r or the 2025r/2032r, just not sure yet which one. The property is about 2.5 acres, all grass right now. One of the reason I am looking above 1025r is because I want to fence that yard over time and it would over 150 holes to dig with a post hole digger implement. Watch Tractor Time with Tim's channel, he seems to think the 1025r is a bit small for this task. The rest (tilling, mowing, plowing, snow removal, etc.) is probably fine with 1025r.

Have you looked at Kubota or others, or sticking with deere?
I did look at Kubota, I'm not a fan of their pedal system, I got used to the twin pedals by driving my father-in-law's 1025r. I just seem to like Deere to best at the moment, at least for CUTs.

You wouldn't happen to know an easy way to "disconnect" or "override" the shut off on the seat that kills the engine when you stand up do you? :-)
Not sure which exact model or year deere you have but my dad would always unplug the wire plug under the seat, then he would take a wire and put it in each terminal, hooking or linking the two terminals together.then he taped it up so it could easily be put back to the way it was before. The jumper wire would be done on the chassis side of the tractor, not the seat side. I havent tried this on my tractor and cant confirm it will work. Try at your own risk. But even if doing that would cause damage, it should only blow a fuse, if anything at all. But to get to it, your seat should just rotate forward, with the seat back touching the steering wheel. Let me know how it goes if you try it, and what year and model you've got. Hope this helps!

Theres a post about it on green tractor talk. If you google disable rio 2017 john deere 2032r this post should pop up. There is a technical manual you can buy for your tractor. Printed version is 200.00. In there it highlights what can be adjusted. I dont have this manual to answer your question
Is there a way to disable the Seat switch damn thing makes me mad
(Just in case you aren't aware of this), you can put the tractor in neutral and it wont stall if pto is off. Yeh it's annoying! I havent messed with the seat.

@@terryatchison1639 Keep trying, I got mine in the end, the written instructions are correct, Mine is a European model and the buttons either side of the mode button are the lights, if yours is the same you need to use the turn signal switch below the mode button to input code etc.
Don't have to mess with that kind of stuff on my kubota. Had a 1025r jd and I hated that thing.
