Hydro Thunder - The Best Boat Racing Game Ever

- To start off this wonderful New Year, I decided to upload another Saiga GeneCast game review. In this video, I will be going over Hydro Thunder, a Midway racing game for the Sega Dreamcast. This is one of those Dreamcast games that has to be force booted into VGA mode. Click on the link below for more info.

Hydro Thunder is an interesting game because it is not a traditional racer. The reason is because it takes place on the water and the vehicles are racing boats. So, hold on tight and hope you don't fall overboard as we boost our way through this review of Hydro Thunder for the Sega Dreamcast.
You may have noticed the amazing picture quality of the Sega Dreamcast. That can be only accomplished by VGA. It is a video format that you are probably using right now to connect your computer to your monitor. The Dreamcast can out VGA through a VGA box. There are many different boxes out there. The one that I am using is the Retro Bit and it only costs $25. With that amazing device, Dreamcast games look absolutely stunning.

you forgot to mention that you can jump by pressing L and when you released the L trigger press R and the boost button, you can also make a "super start" who gives you extra boost right in the start of the race. also if you wait 10 min ( or 15 i don't remember) in the "press start" screen ( the one with the hydro thunder logo and all the "cinematics") without pressing any buttons, the credits of the game will appear instead of another "cinematic" ( the credits are really funny), and also theres a little secret in this game, did you notice in the back of the box, they say there is 14 tracks, but theres only 13, yep theres a track in the files of the game that dont show up in the final game, if you want to see how the track looks, theres this guy who manage to get the track; ruclips.net/video/OWkuDBDOykk/видео.html . (due to this deleted track , some colors of the tracks name dont mashup with the "name box", example, greek isle is blue, easy, but the box is yellow, medium). also great video ( sorry if my english sounds like sh_t,i dont speak it all the time because im french)
Oh yeah I forgot to mention this in the review. I'll pin your comment so that everyone can see this. Actually, you can already see the credits of the game if you let Hydro Thunder sit on the start screen for a while. It's cool to see the developers sit on those swimming tubes. It reminds me a little bit of TOOBIN. That's cool, I didn't know that they also cut a track from this game. Thanks, glad you like the video. Your English is not bad, it is just that you need to capitalize at the beginning of the sentence and you'll be fine. Hello France from America!

I played first the arcade game in a real cabinet and later i tried the PS1 port and i was so impressive that it essentially doesnt lost nothing. One of the best looking games on the system.

Nice video! And great image quality!! I don’t have much knowledge of consoles and technology, but I wondered what VGA is... I am using a crt television for my Dreamcast. Will vga also giving better quality there..?

Saiga GeneCast That's Correct And There's Also A Sequel Similar To Hydro Thunder It's Artic Thunder And Was Released On PlayStation 2 In Late 2001 And On Original Microsoft XBOX In Early 2002.

Hi Magnus, I love water games as well. They are a breath of fresh air compared to the typical racing game. I am not sure Magnus, as I haven't played Waveracer on the Gamecube. But, I can assure you that this game is good!
Wave Racer, it's amazing. They say the N64 Wave Racer is even better.
Perfect timing to play some water games, there's literal no water here right now, lol- drought (the country's dams is almost empty).

This my first time hearing about the Hot New version of Hydro Thunder fixing bugs of the original version. I have certainly heard about Mortal Kombat Gold having some serious bugs causing the Hot New version to be released for it but not HT. I have owned this copy of the game for a while and didn't notice any problems with it.
You did mention a good point that I forgot to say in the video, which is the Hot New version of Hydro Thunder automatically boots up into VGA mode while the original one does not.
@@RollerVisionStudios It's four Midway launch titles that needed Hot New rerelease, yeh MK is pretty rough (THE MANUAL SHOWS MENU PIC SOMETHING RELATED TO SAVING AND TELLS YOU 'DON'T BELIEVE THIS DON'T USE- DATA CORRUPTION IS A POSSBILE!!!' the bugfixed one even)
There is the infamous clip too of Ready 2 Rumble 1, Dreamcast being promoted on some show on the live boobtube featuring the Jeff Gerstmann and the crappy looping sound glitch was there >.

Saiga GeneCast Oh yeah, I was obsessed. I don’t actually remember it being that difficult for me, which is strange because if I picked it up today, I would probably have a harder time
Lol, no kidding. It was so easy for to unlock all of the boats and maps in co op, but so difficult to do that in single player. Maybe if I was obsessed as you can, I think I can unlock everything in single player mode.

the bad handling is what makes the hard boats 'hard' to control. Regardless, love the video.
