just noticed the skunkworks logo on the tail of darkstar. I would not be surprised if we had something like this that flies regularly. A few months ago was hearing regular sonic booms at about hour long intervals. Pretty sure something like this was being tested.
Your the first person I have seen mention this. It is also on the stick of the Dark Star as well. I mentioned it to a lot of people who know the group and they didn't notice it in either location.
Quick correction. Tom Cruise never actually pilots the F-18s, it's against DOD policy for a civilian to operate a military craft. He was in the backseat in every shot. The shots from behind where it looked like he was flying was flown by a buddy of mine who I was in flight school with, former Blue Angel Frank Weisser
I had long forgotten what a sequel should be and is the complete opposite to Hollywood's never ending woke political lecturing. This movie is how its done. it brings people together.
In the early 70's I dated a guy for a short time who loved to fly. We went up in a Citabria (aerobatic plane) and did a few inverted moves and a few stalls over Palmdale. Pulled maybe 1 or 2 G's. We went our separate ways but I understand that he ended up in the Air Force and I hope he reached his dream of being a test pilot. Love these kind of movies and your reaction.

The F-14 Tomcat was retired by the US Navy in 2006 and replaced by the F/A -18E/F Super Hornet. Ironically, the US Air Force's F-15 Strike Eagle, the cousin of the F-14, is still in operation.
Not exactly. Super Hornet F18 replaced the Hornet. Because Hornet was so good, F-14 became superfluous. Unfortunately, Now Navy does not have a long range air superiority fighter, as both F-18 and F-35 are the attack fighters.
@@bessarion1771 Not exactly. The old F/-18 Hornet was replaced by the F-35 Lightning. The Super Hornet was introduced in 1999. The old Hornet wasn't retired until a decade after the F-14 Tomcat was retired in 2006.
Don't know... F-14 could use AIM-54 long range missile. F-18 cannot. F-14 and F-15 are not really related. One was made by Grumman and the other by McDonnell-Douglas.
@@roccosfondo8748 True, Grumman made the F-14 Tomcat for the Navy and McDonnell-Douglas made the 15-Eagle for the Air Force, so both fighters had different purposes. However, both fighters had a similar twin engine, twin tailwing design and were created as a response to the Soviet Union's MiG-25 Foxbat, which scared the hell out of the US military with its rumored Mach-3 capability, as well as from lessons learned from the Vietnam War and the limitations of the F-4 Phantom II, which both fighters replaced.
@@44excalibur yes but that can be true for the F-15. The F-14 was designed to protect the carrier groups from Tu-22 bombers armed with ASM. That why it was armed with the AIM-54 while the F-15 wasn't.

Saw the original in theaters as a kid. I've watched it maybe 100 times since, the sound track a 1,000 times. Had such high hopes for the original. It met or exceeded every one. This is why I love movies.
For those who saw this in IMAX, yes it was amzing...BUT you had to see in 4DX where the seats moved during the flight scenes, rumbled, the fans blowing wind & mist during the scenes on the deck of the aircraft and the mission with the snow...THAT WAS AN INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE!! My favorite movie this year and probably the last 3 years.
Yeah, I knew they wouldn't make it unless it was going to be good, and yet when I first saw it I was worried the whole time that it wouldn't be as good as I wanted. It ended up being even better! They did a great job with it!!!
i love it that everyone during mavs run was internally rooting for him to made it, because even if that means he beat them all, it means its possible to do it, that is possible to go do that mission and get back alive, you can even see warlock clenching his first, hes not just rooting for him but he now also knows his pilots can make it back alive, that includes even the admiral that despite how it is portrayed he cares deeply for every single men and women under his command, you can see this at the sutil breaking of his voice when he says they cant do anything about mav anymore, everyone know its true, but no one wants to say it, but he has to, hes the commander and everyone one there is his responsibility and also everyone there is looking for him for commands, even mavericks knew this, he counted on that his commander would get them all of there asap even if he got hit, the teacher would knew that other got his students backs
I hadn't gotten the chance to see this one when it came out in theaters, so thanks for your always insightful reaction... which was also my "first time watching." 👍
so my only issue with this whole movie was what happened to Roosters back seat navigator between attacking the target and rescuing Maverick. He mysteriously disappeared from the jet.
I shed some man tears thought the movie and not afraid to admit it. A good sign of an amazing director and cast is one’s that can make you feel a range of emotions…. They ticked all the boxes and then some. It deserves all the praise it gets and I am damn sure to see his new Mission Impossible next year now! If it’s as well made as Maverick!
I saw it in the theater and the audience was so into it. I wholeheartedly agree with your take about the extinction line. I definitely believe it has a meaning for manned aviation vs drones and Hollywood vs practical FX. I also think it's referring to Hollywood vs Tom Cruise and his generation. He's not just holding his own, but leading the way and now had his greatest box office success. Hollywood really needs to look at more than their cookie cutter ideas and make more practical FX driven films. They also need to give more respect to the older generation, both in films and viewers. Cruise knows they're veering too far off track and it's killing the cinema experience. You've got to give an audience a reason to come to the theater.
Val Kilmer is my childhood favorite, from Willow to Topgun to Heat. What a solid actor over the years. The Doors, The Saint .. anyone seen The Saint that movie still stands up & is gold.
I hope you realize that the Navy did not let Tom Cruise actually fly a super hornet by himself or any of the other actors. They are in the back seats of the two seat version of the super hornet. The F/A-18F. All the actual flying is done by US Navy aviators and US Navy Blue Angel pilots.
Iceman became the Commander of the Pacific Fleet which is one of the very few 4 star positions there is in the Navy. Not to be confused with the O5 rank of Commander like what I retired at which wears the silver oakleaves and is the equivalent to a Lt. Colonel in the other branches of service
The bar scene where we meet the new pilots, Miles Teller learned to play Great Balls Of Fire, and that seven was a live take in which the cast and extras joined in. It was so good that it was the chosen version for the OST, and they used the full take as a music video. It also makes sense that Rooster would play that song, it’s the last memory he has with his dad and it was a happy one. Also, that group of pilots probably range from 30-38 (Rooster being the oldest), and a few of them know Rooster pretty well, so they likely know the song because of him. 18:41 that’s exactly what I said. It’s parked right outside the front door. The 5 or so minutes from Coyote blacking out, through to Iceman’s funeral, it’s a rollercoaster that doesn’t let you breathe more more than a second. Tension, relief, tension, relief, tension, sadness. Maverick proves to the rest of the pilots the mission can be done in the 2.30 time by doing it in 2.15… the actual mission comes around and a new variable is thrown in - the patrolling enemy fighters - they end up increasing their speed even more and probably all do it inside 2.15 themselves. 24:58 up to this point we have had: “Despite your best efforts, you refuse to die.” “Someone’s not coming back from this.” “You’ll be back in a fighter jet with your tail on fire.” “I’m never leaving you again.” “We’ll talk, when we get back.” And now: “If I don’t see you again Hondo, thank you.” All this foreshadowing for Maverick’s potential death. So when he gets shot down, you actually fear the worst as he sacrificed his jet to save his best friend’s son. That ending: “thank you for saving my life.” “It’s what my dad would’ve done.” 🥲 Your summary at the end, spot on, I agree with everything you said. One correction though - they didn’t fly the F-18s, they rode in the back seat with a set of cameras on top of the instrument panel, which they learned to operate themselves as they had to direct themselves, obviously as the actual director wasn’t able to do it. Tom Cruise asked if he would be allowed to fly one himself, but laws are laws, no civilians are allowed to pilot military aircraft, so he settled for the next best thing which was the back seat with actual Navy pilots flying in the front. He did actually fly his P-51 Mustang (yes, Tom Cruise owns that plane, because of course he does 🤷🏻♂️) at the end though, with Jennifer Connolly in the back with him. She didn’t really like flying and asked him not to do anything fancy… so of course he did the barrel-roll at the end 😂
Regarding Amelia seeing Mavs motorcycle. Most houses have front and back doors, and most kids use the back more than the front. So, there's a good chance she didn't see the bike. Or she did see it and anticipated Mav hopping out the upstairs window and that's why she chose to watch out the window.

I think this is by far the best sequel I've ever seen. I'm too poor to do the in person thing but I bought it on youtube and have watched it 8 times already. I'll probably watch it many more times. Its just that good.
The original Top Gun wasn't meant to be a great movie. It was meant to be fun and popular. MTv started in 84. TG came out in 86. It was meant to be a 2 hr. music video. Ergo all the cool original music.
I was 13 when the first came out. And at age 13 me and my friends all.went to the movie theater to watch it. Plus Nintendo just came out with Top Gun, I beat it lol. And this was the only movie this year thay was the best..
I mean, Tom wasn't actually flying the plane. The F-18 Super Hornet is a 2 seat plane. Any shots that are from inside the cockpit with him "flying" are actually him (or the other actors) in the back seat (you can make it out if you look. They are all the way back against the canopy). When you can see both airmen in the cockpit, it was filmed on the ground. 99% of the shots of planes in the air with the camera outside are fully CGI. I loved that they brought the F-14 from the original Top Gun back when they steal it in the end. The only "odd" part is that the F-14 is one of the fastest combat jets ever (they make Jets slower but more maneuverable now). As soon as they were in the air, he likely would have gunned it (the Tomcat can go nearly 1600mph). The SU-57 would not have had a chance at catching it (the Tomcat is almost 200mph faster). So it was unrealistic that the SU-57 caught them from behind with ease. But I guessed the dramatic ending would have been missed if they had flipped the guys off and dusted them haha.
I just found your channel and I don't know if you read the comments this late but Tom Cruise did not fly in the movie except for the last scene in the movie (which you or whoever does your edits didn't show much of ). In the edited part Tom did fly his WWII P-51, which was flown in the end. Tom is an accomplished pilot but the USN would not allow civilians to fly due to USN regulations. The airplanes flown were two models of the F-18 a two-seat model and a single-seat model with the actors in the back of the two-seat model with actors operating their cameras and directing themselves. You missed the point about Ed Harris saying his kind are soon to be extent because he is one of those admirals and some of the actual military leaders think drones will replace pilots in the near future and there will be no more need for pilots. The actual flying was done by real top gun pilots with the actors in the back and the opening scene with the concept that flew over Ed Harris was done by a blue angel pilot who does the low passes in air shows the same blue angel flew the canyon run showing that the mission could be done was that same blue angel pilot with Tom in the back seat The last 8 minutes of the movie where Maverick fights the 5th fighters were flown by pilots from the Patriot Aerobatic Jet Team, the only civilian flight demo team in the USA

As for "Great Balls of Fire" I get the feeling Rooster is known with his buddies for this song. Obviously the song is personal to Rooster. I imagine he spend a lot of time in the Academy performing this song whenever a piano was available. That's why everyone sings along... it's his thing.
I enjoyed your insight after your reaction. This movie means so much to many people. Dosent matter if you're a die hard fan it's just a fantastic film. This film means something on many aspects to every different person. It dosent matter how much many it's made. It's the moments shared with the audience, family and friends. It just kicks so my ass and I'm glad we're all a part of it
I've gone to see this movie twice at the theater, it is one of the best movies i think out in a long time
Damn Lewis Pullman looks and sounds just like his dad.
See him in Bad Times at the El Royale....really good in that one, too......I always liked his dad - a great actor way underused and unappreciated.
just noticed the skunkworks logo on the tail of darkstar.
@@kissmy_butt1302 the logo appeared somewhere else but do not remember.
Dude, Great Balls of Fire was an old song in 1986 when the original Top Gun came out. lol That song is from the 1950s.
I saw this film in IMAX. It was a great experience. Great reaction bro! 👍🏿
Man, I've been watching this for over 10 times and not sure when to stop. I think I wouldn't stop watching this. This is the best movie of 2022. Damn..
I am so sad you didn't see it in theaters but great reaction nonetheless!
Saw the movie when it debuted in IMAX the Tuesday before the wide release last May... TGM is a masterclass is cinema done right, the kind people like me grew up with -- hopefully Hollywood executives are taking note because it topped $1.4 billion for a variety of reasons
I have to say that you are the best movie reactor on RUclips. 👍🏽 We actually get to see you react to the movie as it should be. It’s never ONLY about you . We get to see a good amount of the movie and your genuine reaction to it. You’re doing a great job. You definitely deserve more subscribers. Thank you. ✌🏽
Great Reaction! Your end film commentary, is on point!
Great Balls of Fire is in fact a Navy bar song
has been since the original movie
33:27 who's cutting onions?? 🥲
If you haven't watched Patriot with Mel Gibson please do a movie reaction to it. Great film. So emotional.
Loved your reaction. This film is epic, I love the love it has been deservedly given around the world. You also have a new subscriber!
The impressive thing is that when Maverick went through the practice course he operated the laser and dropped the missile.
Val Kilmer is my childhood favorite, from Willow to Topgun to Heat. What a solid actor over the years. The Doors, The Saint .. anyone seen The Saint that movie still stands up & is gold.
Tombstone as Doc Holiday I think is his best performance
Real Genius.
@@cappaman73 totally agree. Id psych kids on the rugby field yelling at them "Im your huckleberry!!!!"
24:58 up to this point we have had:
“Despite your best efforts, you refuse to die.”
“Someone’s not coming back from this.”
“You’ll be back in a fighter jet with your tail on fire.”
“I’m never leaving you again.”
“We’ll talk, when we get back.”
And now: “If I don’t see you again Hondo, thank you.”
All this foreshadowing for Maverick’s potential death. So when he gets shot down, you actually fear the worst as he sacrificed his jet to save his best friend’s son.
That ending: “thank you for saving my life.”
“It’s what my dad would’ve done.” 🥲
Your summary at the end, spot on, I agree with everything you said.
Or she did see it and anticipated Mav hopping out the upstairs window and that's why she chose to watch out the window.
in opening week twice in IMAX.. still not enoughj...
YES. see this in theater! It was awesome.
The last true action hero. Remarkable sequel. Beyond impressed.
"I think Phoenix is my favorite" - every reactor has a different favorite, it seems. I'm partial to Bob. The actors got to pick their own callsigns for this movie, kinda curious what thought process led to Bob.
I JUST SAW IT LAST WEEK 5 TIMES ON MY 50 INCH T.V. BUT NOT IN A ROW......LOL....I AM AN OLD AIR FORCE MILITARY BRAT, AND I WAS 28 YEARS OLD WHEN THE FIRST ONE CAME OUT........THEY DID A BRILLIANT JOB AND THE STORYLINE WAS EXCELLENT. NOT BAD FOR A 36 YEAR OLD REPRISED ROLE
This is the best sequel to an original very good film that I have ever seen.
Not quite the original intro: they fixed the misuse of 'insure' and added 'women' to the available candidate pool.😉
I really enjoyed your reaction, Caped Informer. Thank you for sharing it.
Great reaction.
Now watch it in the theaters, in the largest format still available to you, to truly experience one of the best legacy sequels ever made (and the best film of 2022).
Everybody in the bar knew the song because their parents watched the original Top Gun with them. ;)
Very real and genuine reaction!!! Love it bud!!!
I am a huge Miles Teller fan but glen powell as hangman stole the show!!
Thank you. Glen Powell is such a great actor and Hangman is my absolute favourite. I think most people don't understand his intentions/mindset and just label him an a*hole, which he's not.
@@Stephanie-es7wv well i do believe he is being an a-hole at times but… when push comes to shove those are your brothers and sisters out there and he if he is in a position to help he will
@@Stephanie-es7wv he needed to be humbled, he was way too arrogant but his character growth is nice because he learns to play with the team.
Admiral Cain uses my callsign in this movie. Now if only I shared his 2 silver stars instead of the silver oakleave I left the Navy wearing.
Not so fun fact I didn't know, Val Kilmer is currently cancer free but it did take his voice, and now has to eat out of a feeding tube. However, his voice was recreated through A.I. in the movie.
GREAT damn movie. SO glad I went to the theater for it.
28:31 Captain America Sprinter Soldier!
I wouldn't be surprised if Balls of fire isn't on all jukebox in navy bars after Top Gun.
I think this is by far the best sequel I've ever seen. I'm too poor to do the in person thing but I bought it on youtube and have watched it 8 times already. I'll probably watch it many more times. Its just that good.
“I make Movies for the Big Screen” -Tom Cruise. Check Tom out in American Made.
The original Top Gun wasn't meant to be a great movie. It was meant to be fun and popular. MTv started in 84.
TG came out in 86. It was meant to be a 2 hr. music video. Ergo all the cool original music.
If you want to see this in a theater, you have to find a 4DX theater that is still playing it. Trust me, your life will change forever.
I DONT NEED A STUPID STATUE TO TELL ME THAT THIS ISNT THE BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR OR THE BEST MOVIE IN THE PAST DECADE. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 PERIOD
Well done review. Glad you liked Tom's love letter to his aviation sweetheart.
Tom didn’t fly the jets, military pilots did. The actors were in the backseat. While he is a pilot, he only flew the p-51 Mustang, his personal plane.
Great review, great movie!
TGM is a masterpiece. I saw in it in theater 2 times. Well worth the money
Easily the best movie of 2022. Tom second best movie of his career.
