There is a guide for this machine and you can place it on both sides its also adjustable for stitching in the ditch
How do you like it?
I always wanted to know if my Janome HD9 machine wasn’t low shank or high shank...is there only two kinds of Janome HD9?
I love my hd9 had it for 4 yrs I would to find a very narrow foot 1/8 for zippers
If you want to use Aurifil 50 wt in this machine, just use the one hole closest to the pretensioner. Thread goes through the hole and directly into the pretensioner disks. Don't use either of the other two holes. Also make sure you thread it according to the light thread diagram. You should have success. I just got this machine and used YLI Soft Touch 60 wt thread (not as strong as Aurifil) and it worked fine, though flooring the machine initially caused the thread to break about once every two to three hours of sewing. I can live with that. If you get a few stitches going, then you can floor it to 1600 spm and not have a problem.
Hi! Just got my machine, I’m ordering needles for piecing with Aurifil 50wt-80/12? And what threads do you use when making bags. And I assume the specialty 14 size foot? Any other thoughts?

I am a "minor league'" bag maker. I am ready to purchase a HD9 and am really excited. However, I have started worrying about no free arm. How do you sew around the top to do the topstitching? It is usually thicker there and that is one place my current machine has problems, as far as stitching. But the free arm almost seems essential.
A free arm definitely makes a difference in topstitching but you can do without. Any machine like this that’s built for thickness and speed can’t have a free arm. But…. If the bag is large you can topstitch from the inside while the bag stands up (rather than laying it down with the free arm). If it’s small you can very slowly keep folding it. I know this sounds awfully confusing in words! Let me work on a video that will help demonstrate it better!

I don’t have that Juki model to compare so I wouldn’t know the answer. Sorry! It is a powerful, heavy duty machine for sure!

@@raggedyanna6-Missy I don’t know what they call it or if it’s available separately for purchase. You could always ask your Janome dealer if they have a foot organizer in the train case zip around style.
