- Let’s say, hypothetically, that famous RUclipsr Mr. Beast created a free $1,000,000 contest in which anyone could play, but the only chance for a winner is if one and only one person entered.
What would you do? Would you enter and hope you were the only one? Would you enter just to destroy another person’s chances? Would you not bother at all because you were so sure tons of other people would try?

It's pretty easy. No one can win.
You have two options: Like or don't like. The only way you can win is by liking. Not liking is useless, because you can (in theory) help someone you don't know win, which not many people care about. So basically, with liking you would have a very small chance to win in theory and with not liking you will lose anyway.
That's why 9/10 people will like and there is no chance to win, especially with a bigger group.
Like, there is no real good reason to not like, right? Unless you want someone else to win

1. Someone would make two accounts and like twice just to troll for the hell of it
2. If you don’t “smash” The like button you have a 100% guaranteed chance of not winning, so everyone might as well click the like button.

It's really not a good example. Likes on a youtube video don't exactly work the way replies to a telegram (to only a limited amount of people on top of it) do. People are too selfish for anyone to win. The fear of missing out would mean almost everyone would enter it
It isnt even selfishness, its just that there are too many people, the chances of only one person going for it are infinitesimal
and the few that would refrain in hopes that someone might actually win... well, nobody would ever know because they didn't interact with it
it is a Nash equilibrium, of course everybody will click. you may be improving the overall chances for somebody to win if you don't click, but you are not improving your chances in any way by not clicking.
There just is no reason to not try it. They will lose nothing if multiple people like. Nor will they gain anything if someone else wins.
Either you have a extreme minimal chance of winning or no chance at all, the answer is obvious.

I did a similar thing, whole class had to count from 1 to 20, only one person could shout out a number and it goes on until 2 or more peeple shouts out a number or 20 is reached then the game has to restart. A person couldn't shout out a number twice.

it's pretty different, as game theory usually involves downsides and upsides. there's no downside for not clicking. and really, there's no upside either (for you anyways) as it is quite impossible for you to win. the only winner is mister beast

That’s not at all how game theory works. It’s simply a model for predicting behavior with any given payoff value, which may sometimes be negative. This game is indeed able to be modeled in terms of game theory, and even has Nash equilibria, iterative deletion, probability, and payoff values. Even biology is adherent to game theory, I don’t know why you think this game wouldn’t be.
