      Many regions have some style of complex foot tapping to keep rhythm for fiddlers. Still, French Canadian fiddlers are known for their foot tapping right across Canada (there are francophone communities from Newfoundland to British Columbia). Often "French" fiddlers outside Canada use complex rhythmic tapping as well, in differing styles. The rhythms have to do with the ways people dance to the music.
