He didn’t skip Armin because as Armin said himself he haven’t seen the cruelty and massacre of Shiganshina’s fall, he was still kind and didn’t had enough reasons to be as strong mentally as Eren, Mikasa, Ymir, Historia and the warriors.

I think it's because those guys accepted that their world is cruel, but Armin still saw beauty in it. He had hopes and dreams, and genuinely believed in them.
He didn't skip reiner, as shown in season 4 when reiner said he was there to save humanity.

Agreed. I've never even seen it as some sort of conscious choice by Shadis. Just that he was just going to mess with a couple and chose the ones that looked the most scared. Thats why Armin got picked on even though he was "One of the ones to witness the horrors" its not like Shadis is thinking "Oh this Cadet was at Trost. I better skip them"
Armin didn’t actually see any titans except the colossal though. Eren and Mikasa ran directly into titan territory the second the walls fell. They watched their mother get eaten alive. That was their hell.
Incorrect. In ep 1 we can see Armin directly seeing the titans when they went inside and he had to go through them and in between all the people that died bc of the rocks from the wall to call Hannes to help Mikasa and Eren, to get with his grandpa and get to the ship, we just didn't see that part bc we were with Eren and Carla. We even saw him looking at the armored breaking the door and killing all the soldiers that were there. Armin said in ep 3 that he didn't see the titans as close as Eren did, but never that he didn't see them bc that would be a lie.

You make it sound like people are saying Armin had 0 suffering or never even saw titans in ep 1, which they're not. People are just saying Armin didnt experience the titans or his families death the same way his friends did. Armin only ever heard about or posited the deaths of his family members while Eren and Mikasa had to be a part of it and be powerless to stop it.

@@RayFChung dude, I think you're not reading well. You literally said I'm talking like people is saying Armin never saw titans in ep 1 when they aren't, like how? Read the comment I'm answering to, the comment literally says "Armin actually never saw titans, just the colossal" and you want me to not talk about how Armin did see more titans in ep 1 than the colossal? Yes, the person I'm answering to is saying that, they explicitly said what you say they didn't so I'm correct in my answer.
I also mentioned that Armin didn't see them as close as Eren bc some people in the comments have said in ep 3 Armin says he didn't see titans which is a lie I was correcting since Armin never said that, he just said Eren saw them closer, which means there's no such thing as Armin admiting he didn't see titans which makes sense bc we saw him seeing them.
There's also the fact that that's the only difference we can find between them in relation to the trauma about just seeing titans since people makes such a big deal about the trauma of just seeing them, not even about the deaths always (just from seeing them, not the deaths, as Carla's, we'll talk about that topic later since they use to separate), and many try to make out of that really big differences between some of their traumas that aren't really there bc in relation to that single topic alone there's barely any difference. It's impossible for Armin with all the way he had to do in the first two eps to not see dead people, some getting eaten and some dying, he didn't go directly to the ship and got automatically saved far from them, we know more happened in the middle. So seeing them closer as Eren isn't a really huge difference in trauma even if not the same (which isn't the point, we're talking about if Armin had enough trauma from that as Eren to Shadis to notice, not about who had it worse).
And now touching Carla's topic and their families in general... I also know Armin didn't suffer the same than Mikasa and Eren with his family's deaths but the main comment was talking about what happened with Carla which was the first tragedy in Eren's life and that's a bad example for the topic we're talking in here because we're talking about how Shadis didn't talk to those that went through big traumas, suggesting many of those were the ones that were in Maria territory, but talked to Armin even when he was there when wall Maria fell, so this person here didn't just say a wrong fact like that Armin just saw the colossal and no other titan but also talking about Eren and Mikasa's trauma as them going through a really horrible thing Armin didn't go through during the fall so he doesn't have a trauma like that to be shown in his eyes enough for Shadis to not talk to him (bc you seem to think I'm trying to defend Armin had it the same or worse against people saying not that Armin didn't suffer but that Eren and Mikasa had it worse, but that isn't the case at all as you can see, ppl is saying that since Armin didn't go through the same Mikasa and Eren that day then he doesn't have enough trauma for Shadis to skip him, which isn't true bc Armin has tons from a combination from before and then that day,so talking about just that day is wrong as an argument bc we're not talking about who had it worse but if he had enough trauma to be skipped and to answer that it's incorrect to just have arguments about the first two eps as if nothing happened before or as if it isn't enough bc isn't as bad as Eren and Mikasa's case bc that's loosing the point by doing it a competence about who had it worse in the place of the real topic: if he had enough, which he did) but they're forgetting this isn't just about what happened when Maria fell, they suggest the traumas can come from there for majority but they also say with that that's not the case for everyone (and it isn't) so talking just about what happened in ep 1 and 2 to justify Eren and Mikasa have a way bigger trauma than Armin is wrong bc majority and even Armin have traumas from even before so to talk about their traumas you can't just talk about the first two episodes as an argument but also about everything in their pasts that touches that topic.
Also, what you say about Armin not going through a trauma as big as Mikasa and Eren in relation to the titans or deaths of their families is true (but not as important as you make it look) but at the same time you can't say they had it worse in general (bc even if as I said isn't the point of this topic as you thought, I also disagree in this) bc of that bc Armin has tons of other traumas aside of the deaths of his family so the amount of bad experiences can be easily compared as easily balanced even if one of them (the deaths) isn't balanced for the three of them since yeah Mikasa and Eren had it worse in that area.
The point of this whole thing is that it's a fact there's many many people in this comment section saying Armin didn't see any titan or death in ep 1 when that's a lie which is why my answer is correct. There's also many people forgetting Armin went through really hard things in his life marking him forever even before of the events from ep 1 (if you don't believe me then read the comment section carefully bc that's there) which again is a lie bc Armin has tons of traumas that would make everyone change forever or be depressed, etc, enough for Shadis to see that in their eyes and skip them, the only difference with Armin is that even after all the bad stuff he went through he never abandoned hopes and dreams, he always had a look of hope (canon fact recognized in the story), meanwhile thanks to his experiences Mikasa became naturally cold and reserved in general situations (again canon and explicitly said) and Eren forgot about his dreams to go for revenge with eyes that showed pain, rage and wish for revenge (once again, canon thing explicitly said in the story). The looks is what Shadis is looking at, Mikasa and Eren's have been confirmed as dark ones that reflect their past while Armin's as one full of hope (so much that his eyes are described like that explicitly even in the last eps of the story) not just after everything he went through in his childhood but even after everything that happened to him during the show which is obviously a lot, the titans, them eating people, terrible deaths of loved ones in front of him, becoming a titan, getting burned alive, everything in season 4 and in the finale. So, yeah, saying this is caused just he bc didn't had it as hard with the deaths of his family or titans in ep 1 isn't it, neither what others do say.
Eren and mikasa also had to kill three kidnappers when they were young with mikasa seeing her parents be brutally murder as well
@@itschris2628 I mean, if suffering before of the fall of the wall adds to it then Armin isn't behind for that, he definitely didn't suffer as much as Mikasa did with her parents's deaths but he still went through really hard and traumatic things, more than Eren before of Carla's death too.

@@fryPS it's not a plot hole, this scene is telling us that Keith can notice in someone's eyes when they already went through hell, bc they are colder and have more trauma. Even so, he can't notice in Armin bc even after all the shit Armin went through he still has hope in the world and thinks it can be beautiful, that's why his look doesn't seem like the one of someone who saw how horrible the world is since after living what the world is normal people don't have hope on it or think is good or beautiful, as the rest does. With Reiner is the same, he went through a kot of shit but he still thought right there he had the possibility of save humanity, so he still had hope and thought the only bad people were the divils he was ready to end up with, that's why Keith also asked him, his eyes were full of hope, not hate.
According to extras from the birth of Levi series(A choice with no regrets) , Keith started skipping people who he believed didn’t need this type of rite. Levi’s squad leader Flagon complains to Keith and Erwin about Levi’s behaviour so Levi is forced to undergo this special rite. Keith head butts Levi but since Levi shows no reaction, he realises that it’s unnecessary for people like Levi since he’s already hardened to cruelty and violence.

Keith didn't skip Armin because although he might know about some of the trainees' backgrounds he was mostly judging them based on their body language, appearance, and behavior at that moment. Keith easily noticed cute-looking, small and nervous Armin.
Fun Fact: In the No regrets manga special chapter, it was stated that Keith decided to skip those whose eyes showed that they have already passed the "rite of passage" because he wasn't able to intimidate Levi.

He did know Eren as a kid, meaning he knew of Mikasa and Armin. He knew Armin, even though he witnessed the worst of it, still was too empathetic, too nice to even kill anything. He knew his intelligence would send him places, but he had to get rid of his weakness. That's the whole point of armin's development in it's entirety. He becomes a great strategic leader. Keith did regret not being able to do anything to save his friend grisha, his wife, and he also had bad feelings allowing Eren to graduate, but that doesn't mean you're reasoning is correct. Armin needed Keith to do this. He needed to learn, he knew Eren had what it took, hell Eren boasted about eradicating the titan since that day. Surely Keith knew it all. He surely didn't have the power to make any changes in life, but he surely was at the center of it all.

This scene is one of many which foreshadow the titan shifters (+ ymir) As they have all been through their own rite of passage so they haven't been called upon by keith
What about Mikasa though? My best guess is she’s an Ackerman and has the strength of a titan, but it wouldn’t make sense for him to know that. Idk lol, it foreshadows everyone else, I’m not sure why they went over her

No, he didn't skip Armin because Armin didn't witness much terror, he tactically ran to Hannes to save Eren and went outta there.
I think Armin wasn’t skipped because he’s not mentally ready to be a warrior, he’s more kind and empathetic than the others and doesn’t seem ready for the hell thats to come. He also saw the colossal titan but didn’t see all the people getting eaten, and he simply doesn’t have enough reasons to be mentally stronger. He’s just a nice guy who got stuck with the job of saving humanity.
Unless Isayama doesn't know, but personally, he's not intimidating them. He's basically reminding them what they're in the military for and they're all giving him the wrong answer as to why he's harsh on them instead of being pleased why they're joining.
This is not to avoid being yelled at because you're going to be yelled at no matter what, but here is the answer. When it comes to joining the military and they ask you that question, even though Forrest Gump said it, but is the actual answer, "to do whatever you tell me to do." In the military, they know why you joining, they're not stupid. They know you're there so you can kill the enemy, but how are you going to kill the enemy without knowing the skills?
I think he had his suspicions that carla's son was in that batch of recruits but he wanted to make sure as he probably noticed Eren had Carla's eyes.
He didn't skip Armin to make sure there was someone there from shiganshina. Armin, who also suffered through that hell didn't look strong in both body and will at first glance so badgering him like that to confirm his suspicions won't give him away.
After confirming there are folks from shiganshina there, he promptly skips the line with Eren and the ones with "hell" in their eyes to not make his intentions obvious.
I like to think part of the reason he skipped eren was because he still can't take looking into his eyes which would have felt like looking into Carla's.
Armin didn't see anyone get eaten, when shit went down Armin ran straight to the boats.

In addition to Armin's Empathetic nature, Armin didn't live through the trauma as vividly as Eren and Miksasa. While Armin was at Shiganshina, he did not experience the same level of horror as Eren and Mikasa. If you recall, Armin saw the two of them boarding the ferry out of Shiganshina and Amrin's grandfather initially stopped him from going to them saying that it looked like they had been through hell. Eren and Mikasa lived through the carnage of the titans while Armin mostly just saw the triggering event and a bit of the after math. Furthermore Reiner, Bertholt, and Annie obviously also lived through the carnage of the titans perhaps more than anyone else. Not only did they live through the carnage, they bore the guilt of being actual partipants in it as child soldiers.
The Problem with saying Keith skipped the entire line because he felt guilty about Eren, is that would imply Keith was unwilling to give Eren crap in general which isn't really true. Keith gives Eren a hard time much like everyone else, particularly when Eren was on the verge of washing out due to his initial inability to use the ODM gear properly. Obviously he doesn't give Eren as hard a time as say Connie or Sasha but that's because he never really deserved it as much as those goof balls.

I thought he skipped Armin because he didn't really experience the 'hell' that the others did, his first experience with a Titan was way after this and he froze. Don't know why people are going through theories, I thought it was common knowledge that Keith skipped the ones who have seen/gone through hell/ or actually are titans. Its literally in the show and Armin never saw people get eaten nor did he see normal titans at all during the wall being breached, therefore he got yelled at.

Armin may have lost his grandfather, but he has never seen actual bloodshed. Eren and Mikasa have already killed people when they were young. A good example is having two soldiers. Both have the same training, but it doesn't mean anything when one has experienced combat and the other hasn't. Armin still had innocence compared to the others who have lost it

I'd say the real reason he saw the difference in everyone except Armin was because everyone he skipped had killed before. Armin hadn't. Not that he would know that, but that would be the reason those five looked more prepared to him than the rest.

Armin didn't directly encounter any titans at the fall of shinganshina, he ran away as soon as the wall broke, while Eren and Mikasa had to run towards the breach to try and save their mom, that's why he wasn't skipped

I thinks its more about the face/eyes. Eren etc were all either already soldiers or had a stern bloodlust where they were already prepared to die. Armin witnessed the massacre as he ran but still retained his naïvety & kindness which you can see in his face/eyes still
when they say they “experienced hell” it means that they saw their loved ones get eaten by titans, Mikasa and Eren saw Eren’s mom die, Annie, Reiner and Berthold saw Marcel instead, while Armin had never saw anyone he loved die at that point of the story. that’s also why Eren and Mikasa are not scared about fighting titans at Throst

He skipped him because unlike Eren and Mikasa, when the colossal appeared at Shiganisha, Armin immediately evacuated to the boats so didn't witness any of the titans eating people. Hence didn't 'go through hell'
I always thought it was because Armin was already on the evacuation boat and didn't actually witness someone being eaten by a Titan, unlike Eren and Mikasa.
The simplest answer. Most of the dudes that saw action were hardened by experience. So they get skipped.
But Armin is different. Even in the last season Armin (who has killed many) still has the demeanor of innocence.
Armin saw it happen, but he didn't see the full trama Eren and Mikasa saw when Shiganshina fell.
