As a Kenyan married to an Ethiopian, I sincerely doubt if Ethiopian families would discriminate against white or black person marrying their daughter. From my own experience, just like in any other nationalities, Ethiopians do marry outside their own as long as the person marrying them is a nice person. The only thing though that must be observed at all times is respect for the parents and the elderly people in Ethiopia. As for their food and culture, nobody forces you to accept but even without being conscious of it, you will adopt and embrace it as a foreigner unless you are a very hard headed person. In my house it is me who cooks the Ethiopian food because I love cooking and my wife showed me how to cook it when we got married and ever since, it’s me who cooks it willingly. Our kids loves both Kenyan and Ethiopian cultures even though we live in England. Yes, I totally agree that Ethiopians date to marry, they don’t do joy riding at all. If an Ethiopian woman loves you, nothing else matters to them and they will be more than ready to breakaway from anyone who may be opposed to their choice including their parents if need be. As for the forceful conversion to Orthodox, I think this has become an outdated practice unless there’s something else that I don’t know.
This is the strenght of Ethiopians, they like and are very proud of their culture and language. Society standards are not about imitating western lifestyle/language as we do in Rwanda. Keep it up. Would like to learn a little bit of your culture, next time try to share with us a little bit of your culture please, for eg in the video you can show how you prepared that essence, when is it used, etc.. tell us more about your culture of giving someone food with hands, etc... Dating leads to marriage. We don’t date outside of our culture because in our culture we always take care each other for rest of our life. We don’t bail on one another because other person is all used up. In most cultures when you’re old they will throw you in to nursing home or left you alone to struggle. In Ethiopian culture this is very unlikely. When we’re young and energetic everyone wants to be with us. When we get older the circle gets smaller and we have to plan accordingly.
Religion is the most important thing when it comes to marriage in Ethiopia and by religion I mean Orthodox Christianity for most Amhara and Tigray people. Never forget that, modernity and secularism are new thing in Ethiopia. This country was a Christian empire from the fourth century till 1974 and was never colonized and strictly traditional to this day. That said you may find some open-minded newer generations

The truth is that dating itself is seen as bad in Ethiopian culture. An Ethiopian woman dating a foreigner, let alone another Ethiopian, can negatively affect her marriage prospects among Ethiopians. However, from what I've noticed, most of the women who marry outside their culture or race are usually living in Addis and are neither Muslim nor Orthodox. It's mostly women of the Pentecostal religion they are more accepting of it.

Ethiopians are extremely conservative they don’t intermingle with religion. Ethiopia has Protestants too but they’re extremely conservative compared to other parts of the world.
Why can't people just admire their beautiful culture from a far? Since, especially the west, has so much divorce and other problems. Among other black populations we struggle with self acceptance, which affects how you view the opposite sex. I'm sure Ethiopia is not perfect, but they seem more cohesive.
