Phew, that was a jam and a half. This man can sing, he can shred, AND he is totally grooving up there haha. What an excellent video. If y'all know any other great tracks from George like this, let me know here!
Cannot go wrong with ANY track of his breakthrough live album "Weekend in LA". One that jumps out at me is "The Greatest Love of All". He does a good studio cover of it on another record, but the live version can choke you up... so beautiful, soulful and loving, and really showcases his incredible singing.
George Benson... wow! I haven't heard that name in years. I love that you listen to everything. You always remind me of something I've forgotten every day...
Love George Benson's voice and delivery, he's the whole package. Thanks Gail for showcasing his artistry. Great reaction,L33. Blessings and joy to all.
George is a Bad Man!🔥 This song crossed him over into mainstream in the 70's and into the stratosphere ✨ He's a serious jazzer who achieved international acclaim with "On Broadway". ⚡
LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT man!!!! You are "Spanning the Globe" and listening to a "Garden Salad" of different music....so cool you're a younger guy carrying a torch to shed light on music people may miss out on! Awesome Job!!!
They used this song for a cattle call (dancers auditioning) for a Broadway play in the opening of "All That Jazz." What an opening, and what a great movie. George and his guitar sound like one instrument 🎸
I was that weird kid that loved Jazzy type music .. anything with Horns & cool vocals. ..this fit the bill for me then and even all these years later❤ George Benson is the coolest cat!
Love this, but when I think of this song I think of the opening to "All That Jazz". Benson and Farrel. Great album with Benson and jazz flute player Joe Farrel.
Takes much more talent to play clean, precise, and fast like that than having a fuzz make it much easier!!!! I've been playing Jazz to Rock for 55 years and I've learned that you can't hide REAL talent!
I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell. George Benson puts his pants on just like the rest of us, one leg at a time. But when his pants are on, he shreds.
This was from the Montreux Jazz Festival 1986. the band was Steve Tavaglione & Brandon Fields, Sax- Bubba Bryant, Drums- Michael O'Neil, Guitar-Stanley Banks, Bass-Barnaby Finch, Keyboards-Vicki Randle, Percussion-David Garfield, Piano & Ralf Rickert, Trumpet.
And the Lamb…..Lies Down…….On Broadway. On Broadway. It’s only knock & knowall but I like it. This track & the Stones referenced by Genesis in their quirky masterpiece. This is the best version of a cover song. Making it 100% better.
As somebody else mentioned, this isn't the version from "Weekend In LA" that was a hit in the 70s. Still a really good version, and you don't have a drum solo on the original! I was 4 when the song came out and even as a youngster I remember hearing it on the radio. "Breezin" in 1976 was his first real hit albumt, and he dabbled in singing on a couple songs (including "This Masquerade") but "Weekend In LA" was his real coming-out party as a singer. He went on to have a couple legitimate Top 5 pop hits in the early 80s with "Give Me The Night" and "Turn Your Love Around," both of which are great. He also was the original artist of "The Greatest Love Of All" which went on to be a huge hit for Whitney Houston in the mid-80s, and did the original version of "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You" which was a big hit a couple years later in 1987 for Glenn Medeiros. He's one of those guys that's just ridiculously talented.

"This Masquerade" performed by George Benson is incredible!!
@@lisarainbow9703 That's the one I was trying to remember. Second!
L33 you MUST listen to George Benson's 1969 album, " The Other Side of Abbey Road ".
his cover of gabor szabo's 'breezin' is superb.

Give me the night
He's scatting and playing along note for note. Totally fire.
Great music, a great voice 🎶🎶🎶👍

GB Is a legend in the Jazz bebop world...He's was known as a Jazz Master before his pop hits
LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT man!!!! You are "Spanning the Globe" and listening to a "Garden Salad" of different music....so cool you're a younger guy carrying a torch to shed light on music people may miss out on! Awesome Job!!!
Thanks for doing this Lee
Another great selection Gail. This live version is hard to top.
Gail, you always manage to make my day better with your song selections. Thanks.
LOVE IT!!! I've heard the recording many times, but never saw a video. Fantastic!🎉
That was so much fun!!! Love the crowd's enthusiasm. ❤😂

I love it when a live performance blows the studio version up!
That was sooo much fun 😊 the whole band was having a ball. ❤
George Benson’s jam was entertaining, thank you, Gail.
Saw him twice in the early 80s and he closed out each show with this.awesome concert closer.
You should see GB from same live concert doing “Take Five” his solo is absolutely sick!!!!
You should hear his rendition of "The Greatest Love Of All" - it's incredible.
Love this, but when I think of this song I think of the opening to "All That Jazz". Benson and Farrel. Great album with Benson and jazz flute player Joe Farrel.
That was fabulous. I had to check .. he's 81, quit touring for health reasons, put out a new album in this year.
Thank you, Gail! This made my day! You have such a fun channel, Lee. 😊
Royalty right here.

Saw George once. He tore up the stage.😈💜🎵
I loved that ❤
A couple more George Benson songs to give a listen: Love Ballad, and Livin’ Inside Your Love
You gotta listen to his album Breezin’ , one of the best jazz funk albums ever
If you want to hear George at his guitar playing best, give a listen to Breezin.
I saw Benson live in the 80s. Almost quit playing guitar after that.
I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell. George Benson puts his pants on just like the rest of us, one leg at a time. But when his pants are on, he shreds.
Check out AC/DC's live version covering this. It's insane! George, of course, is amazing and a real cool dude.
Our basketball coach played this for our practices. He believed this was a good way to bring out the rhythm. He was right.

oh man, ya gotta do "Softly, as in a morning sunrise"...you won't regret man! Keep On!
Lee. He made an album with Al Jarreau. Pure joy.
L33, you MUST listen to George Benson's " The Otherside of Abbey Road " from 1969.
And the Lamb…..Lies Down…….On Broadway. On Broadway. It’s only knock & knowall but I like it.
This track & the Stones referenced by Genesis in their quirky masterpiece. This is the best version of a cover song. Making it 100% better.
Genesis' came First. 1974. George Benson's On Broadway, arrived four years later in 1978.
@ notice I did not state anything about George’s version. I said “this track” the original version.
@brianvernon249 I caught that. My Comment was an Aside.
I couldn't understand a word he said....😂😂😂😂

The original Drifters version of this song inspired two separate David Bowie songs.
JAZZ along with R&B no longer music that's popular...
