    The $100 for shipping is well worth it. I bought mine in person. The boxes are massive and heavy as hell. Filled the bed of my truck, and if not for a nice guy in the parking lot who took pity on me and helped, I might’ve died under one of them.

    Great video! We bought this setup with two of the subs and a refurb Denon AVR-S950H in January, and love it so far. We've always had Sony home theater in a box type systems before, so just getting into a little more serious setup. It completely blows any of our previous systems out of the water.

    I set up that exact same system last weekend including the subwoofer. I used these to replace my very old American Monitor Company speakers I bought in 1977. These things are great. I have them hooked up to a Denon AVR S530BT. It doesn't have the Atmos outputs, so I haven't tested that out, yet, but my Denon has plenty of power to drive these. Thank you TwoGuyzTech for your reviews of the receivers Costco carries. Based on your reviews it looks like any of those will do the trick. Thank you again for your reviews!

    • @TwoGuyzTech

      We're glad to hear that you're enjoying the system!! We still think it's one of the best values out there right now for a 5.1 system. Any one of the three receivers will work great with these speakers as well. Our personal preference in order is the Onkyo, the Denon, and then the Yamaha (with that said we haven't reviewed the updated Yamaha TSR-700 yet but it's definitely on our list). Thanks for watching!

    • @Bucky2091
      @Bucky2091 2 года назад

      @@TwoGuyzTech I am ordering the Onkyo today. I don't care for the antiquated interface of my old Denon and I can read what it says on the display panel. Back to the Onkyo, how does one match the surround source with the receiver? Is it clearer on the Onkyo? For example, some Vudu 4k movies have Atmos, some don't. Does the receiver pick that up on its own or is there a set of buttons I'll have to change when going say from ESPN or music to my Vudu movies? Thanks.

    I bought several of these speakers separately mostly from Costco as well as the Yamaha TSR-700 (rebranded Yamaha you mentioned in the video) last year and I'm happy with the set up. I already had two high end Jamo Tower speaker so I bought the two R-12SW subs from Costco for $149.99 each on sale, four R-41M bookshelf speakers from Costco for $89.99/pair on sale and the R-52C center channel for about $175 from Amazon on sale. I have a vaulted ceiling in my living room so the "atmos" speakers in the Klipsch towers wouldn't work for me. This was a nice upgrade from my old set up and it didn't break the bank. I ended up going with a 7.1 set up with two subwoofers.

    I have this exact setup at home + same sub and paired with the Sony STRDN1080 receiver and it's an absolute beast. I was able to set it up myself. I paid 800 for 5.1 speakers, 250 for sub, 1300 for Sony TV Sony - 65" Class X900H and 600 for the receiver. At nearly 3K for this discounted setup and around 4-5K for a professional setup, that's a lot of money for a lot of people. Got that sub for my 9.2 system at Costco for only 180. Im actually shocked at the bass output for the money. I have a smaller room so it rocks pretty good. The room gain also extended my low frequency output a couple hz, so im quite pleased. I've had bigger and better in my time, but this one def exceeded my expectations quite a bit.

    I have had these for a while now. They are powered by a Pioneer Elite VSX 92-TXH, 130x7 watts receiver. They are an amazing value for the money. Budget wise I could've spent 4 times what I paid, but after listening to them, assessing my needs they were perfect. Musically I listen to everything from classical to Metallica and, as you were 100% correct, with the subwoofer, they fulfill all my movie or music needs. I will be upgrading my receiver soon so I can utilize ATMOS. Great review, thanks.

      I was thinking about getting this with a BIC Sub, I don't like the Klipsch Subs sound, but I decided to go for the SVS Package and integrate the Atmos speakers later on. I agree these up-firing speakers are not really the way to go, it works OK but it's just not like the real thing, after hearing both versions, in different friends' houses, the real Atmos set up is the way to go. I just have some few question and need your help on choosing to which set of speakers I should buy to make it a 7.1.2 set up coz the klipsch reference is 5.0.2, On my old set up, I placed each surround speaker on each ceiling corner, 2 for rear & 2 for front height. Also, I will check out that same SVS sub that you used for testing if I need a new sub in the future, I already got the klipsch R12 sub.

      Likely you will spend twice or triple the cost of these and be mighty disappointed that the improvement in sound quality is barely perceivable. The quality of music (similar for movies) is mostly the tune, the talent of the performer, and the performance itself (musicians have good days and bad days). Some (many) movie soundtracks are just awful. The thousands you spend on equipment isn’t going to change that.

    Good review. I tested both. I could not control the Onkyo's volume using my Amazon Fire TV stick's remote control, but was able to do that for the Yamaha. I was able to do that for the Yamaha V379, so maybe Yamaha is more compatible with the Fire TV stick. The Yamaha has some audio modes -- Hall in Vienna etc. that are not in the Onkyo. Also, Yamaha website claims the receiver will support 8K with a future update, did not see this for Onkyo. I chose the Yamaha.

    I currently have an Onkyo tx nr656. I have a pair of Polk 100watt bookshelf front, 100w Polk center that are all at least 10 yrs old. My rears are two small klh from an old htib at least 15 yrs old. I've been looking at upgrading the avr to the Denon 760 and adding these speakers. Upon looking at my acr specs I see it is 7.1.2 one main thing that avr missing is earc. Would I be ok just buying this speaker set and using the nr656? Or should I replace that as well and get the earc and 8k? I don't game much at all so don't need much there. Mainly I watch TV thru sound syst and lots of movies. I mean a LOT. I'm looking for getting Atmos out of it that I guess mine can handle now?. My room is small. I sit 8 ft back from my 75" Sony. My rears now are mounted just above my ears ( about 3 ft). Any help is appreciated! Great videos.

I purchased 2 subwoofers and while the center was decent, I upgraded to the rp-450 since it was on sale on Crutchfield. I have it paired with the (finicky) Yamaha TSR-700 that I also got on sale at Costco. Haven’t had any issues with it yet and smile when I’m watching movies on my LG 86” 8750 (also Costco, lol).

  • @mattpipke5716
    @mattpipke5716 3 года назад +4

    I think your assessment was fair.
    I missed your assessment of the atmos front firing speakers.
    We added rear atmos and rear surrounds and we find the combination of front up-firing and rear speakers on the wall pointed at the listening position to be very effective together.
    When we ran only the fronts and side surrounds for a few weeks, the atmos effect was not nearly as pronounced as it is now with he addition of the rear atmos speakers.
    These were never meant to be audiophile or reference level solutions.
    One thing I wish you had looked at and maybe mentioned was that these R41-M surrounds also go on sale at Costco for 89.99 a pair and they sell them in pairs separately.
    So, if you are like me, and want to build your first home theater on a budget, and want to try atmos, you can buy one or two additional pairs of these surrounds and put together a 5.2.4 or 7.2.2 or 7.2.4 atmos system for 999.99 for all 11 speakers.
    I paired mine with two SVS PB-1000 Pro 12" Subwoofers and we are extremely pleased with this set up for movies and shows.
    We were on a tight budget and have never had a home theater, the speaker prices were keeping us from affording a system and we were very close to purchasing a 1500 sound bar.
    Instead of going the sound bar route, we found this speaker pack and found that within our budget we could in fact put a system together and because prices are so low, we decided to up our budget a little to make room for a full 7.2.4 system.
    for 3200 we were able to build a Denon X3700h/ 2, SVS PB-1000 Pro 12" Subwoofer/Klipsch ref pack from Costco/2 additional pairs of surrounds.
    If money allows in the future and we outgrow the set up, we can start with new towers and maybe step up to a reference premier level speaker, and larger center, and later on look for a book shelf replacement for the six R41-M's we have and piece together a nicer speaker set up, but at least in the meantime, we can enjoy 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos surround and DTS:X master audio for our movies, shows and games instead of living with a 3.1 or a sound bar and save up for the rest.
    Because of the incredible value I think a LOT of new comers to the audio world will find this a great way to dip their toe and doing so allows you to dabble with a decent AVR and quality subs for a well rounded effective Home Theater that definitely has value.
    For 1500 a person can put a full system together using this speaker pack and considering the leading atmos sound bars al start at 1500 and run as much as 3200 (Sonos dual sub set up) this IMO is a much better way to go over ANY of those sound bars, LG SN11RG, Q950T, Vizio Elevate, Nakamichi, or Sono's arc 2 sub system, these speakers paired with a decent receiver also on sale for 349.99 and a decent sub will absolutely outperform those.

      Thank you very much for watching and for the in-depth analysis! It's amazing how much you get for your money with this system, and the ability to expand it is worth even more. We chose not to review the Atmos channels in too much depth for the reasons we mentioned in the video (bounce atmos isn't an ideal solution for most people) but it is nice to have the option! As you mentioned, newcomers to the audio/HT world can get into this hobby without a lot of money and feel very happy with their system, and that's what's important. 😀

      Unfortunately, there's no clear-cut answer and it strongly boils down to personal preference. We felt that the Denon had the smoothest sound out of the three, while the Yamaha has a big advantage with its higher power rating and HDMI 2.1 capabilities. We would recommend watching some reviews on all of the receivers and weighing the pros and cons depending on what you need. In our opinion, you can't go wrong with any of them so whatever is available would be your best bet 😀

    Thanks for the review! How would you rate this against the SVS 5.1 prime package? The room I would put them in is a medium-large room, leaning towards the larger end (big master bedroom). I was looking at both of these systems as I'm not an audiophile, and probably couldn't tell the difference between these systems that r/hometheater shits on 24/7 (hard to get a normal person's opinion on there lol). The only thing with the klipsch I'd do is get a better subwoofer like a sb/pb1000 or something. Thoughts?

    • @TwoGuyzTech
      @TwoGuyzTech  3 года назад +1

      Thank you very much for the comment! The biggest advantage that the Prime Satellite 5.1 system has over this is the smaller size of the speakers (if you don't have much room) and the fact that you get an SB-1000 Pro right out of the box. Personally we think that the 5.1 Satellite system had an overall better sound as well, especially in the midrange, but that's not to say the Klipsch system is bad if you want bigger speakers to fill a bigger room. We would recommend an SVS sub over the subwoofer we used in this video as well. Hopefully r/hometheater opens up to more budget minded systems as time goes on LOL!!! But overall they're both great options. Don't be afraid to put aesthetics before sound quality either, in this price bracket its worth at least trying to get something that you feel will look better in your room. Thanks again! Hope this helps! :)

    That is a fantastic deal. That setup with the R51 surrounds as opposed to the R41s runs to around 2K GBP (around 2700 USD) in the UK. That was the preferred atmos setup, and looked for a price drop for a while. I ran with the Jamo S807 system with the S8 ATM modules, which came in on sale at under 1K GBP (1300 USD) including the S810 sub, luckily all found on sale. Absolutely perfect to my untrained ears. Many people will write there are many better systems out there. Whilst my ears may agree, my wallet strongly disagrees. I’ve paired it with Marantz NR1711, which I got at launch for 550 GBP. Amazing system for 1500 all in. Perfect atmos pairing in my eyes, ears and most definitely wallet. I have klipsh r28f 250c center and an spl115 subwoofer and need a new receiver. I am looking at a onkyo 696 or the denon 2700. I plan on getting more speakers eventually would one of these be a good receiver? I had a onkyo 656 but it quit working.

      Thanks for watching! The X2700H will be more futureproof thanks to 4K @ 120Hz support, while the TX-NR696 is lacking a little behind in that regard. Overall, the Denon costs more, and if you had a bad experience with a previous Onkyo product then it might be time to make the switch. Hope this helps!!

    Hey love the review. I’m in the process of buying either this from Costco or a Sony Core Series speakers 5.1.2 set up. Sonys sell Dolby atmos speakers that can go on the ceiling and the sizing of the towers is much more low key which is what I appreciate. WHICH of these two set ups do you recommend for first home theater? Pricing is around the same

      Hi and sorry for the late response, we have only had experience with the Klipsch system so unfortunately we cant comment on how it compares to the Sony system. Thank you for your support :)

      I personally liked the Sony core series setup better over my klipsch setup. I had a 5.2.4 system with them except I didn't have the matching subs from that series. It seems like listening to music was more clearer on them.
      The klipsch setup I have currently are 4 rp500m along with the matching center and I have the cdt-5650-c II for atmos. Technically the klipsch should be better but to me the clarity of the Sony's is slightly better. When you're watching movies, I don't think you'll really notice a drastic difference in sound especially when you're immersed in the movie and have sound hitting you in all directions.
      Now I did test both using 2 SVS pb2000 pro subwoofers and I had the crossovers slightly high on the speakers to let my subs do most of the work.
      I plan on putting together a living room setup with the sony core series speakers and two klipsch r-12sw subwoofers next week. I'll let you know how it performs then because the room your setup is in plays the biggest role in giving you good and accurate sound. Living rooms are less than ideal due to the large open spaces and seating arrangements. I'll see how the Sony's fill up the area and if they sound anemic and all over the place within that environment.
      Also: I ended up buying the Sony speakers off ebay since they're cheaper used currently. They used to go for ~120 dollars normally and 73 dollars on sales every few months. Now they're being sold everywhere for 168 and the atmos modules are even more money. The atmos speakers normally were around 130 and on sales were 100 or less. Now they're 200+. I wouldn't consider the Sony speakers at those high prices even though they sound great. Either buy used, wait for the prices to go down or just get the klipsch if it's more budget friendly.
      DO NOT GET THE SONY FLOOR STANDING SPEAKERS. THE BOOKSHELVES ARE VASTLY BETTER.

    What crossover do you recommend for the Klipsch r 52c and r 625fa? I think the center speaker has a frequency range of 89hz to 21khz.

    Nice review. I want to offer a warning if you are not an audio system expert as is the reviewer because I noticed several comments about problems connecting the system. I had a similar problem with a 3yr old Klipsch sound bar, sub, and 2 bookshelf speakers. I never could get the bookshelfs to play or consistently connect with the Klipsch phone app. Called their "customer service" a couple times and it has to be the industry's worst! The last time I called was a Friday afternoon of a holiday weekend and the tech not only failed to get the bookshelfs to play but he also managed to mess up the sound bar and the sub! Then that cheese butt said he couldn't spend anymore time with me and hung up! If I could have reached through the phone...Anyway, I agree that Klipsch makes a decent home system for the money but if you have any problems, you have have been warned. I will never buy anything else from Klipsch no matter what the deal is.

    Due to this review I bought a set, but did upgrade the sub over what was tested in this video. They replaced a techiques 3 way speaker system from the 1990's. I had the opportunity to use a switch, I own, to go back and fourth between the new speakers vs the old. The Klipsch speakers sound much more clear compared to the old speakers which sound more "muddy". Though I'm going from 3 ways that could handle 230 watts continuous down to the Klipsch 100 Watt, I have yet to feel like they can't handle what I throw at them. The Denon system I currently have is rated for 105 watts for 2 channels, and since I always run in surround sound mode, I will never push these speakers to their max anyway. I'm not a audiophile, but I do enjoy a good experience, so for me these speakers are a win win considering they fit perfectly into my budget. *Note* I was not able to find them for 699, and had to call around to find a store that actually had a set. Considering I would have to drive to a neighboring state to get a pair, when I factored in my time, and gas, it was just as good of a deal to buy them from Cosco's website with the 10% surcharge.

    The subwoofer is that of the older series. The one that matches the system is the R-120SW. I very much enjoy the reference series and have a couple videos up showing off the sound... Recorded from my Note 9 lol

      Came to the comments to say this. The reason it doesn't match your set is because it is an older model. I have the exact same one you have and I love it for movies.

    I have a Klipsch Reference 7.2 surround sound system. Feels like your in an actual theater. Actually i think my setup is overkill for a living room speakers. I never tried putting the volume in full blast because around 50% volume is already too loud & my wife will murder me if i go higher. Lol

    Hello team
    Thank you so much for this review. I went and bought this setup at Costco and it rocks. I also bought the Onkyo TX NR696 receiver. However, I noticed that I would have to turn up the receiver past 70 to get decent sound and turn it up past Reference level of 82 to get great theater sound. Is that normal on these receivers or should I get a Denon avr x2600 receiver?

    • @TwoGuyzTech
      @TwoGuyzTech  3 года назад

      Thanks for watching! It depends, each and every receiver is different. So long as you're not hearing any noticeable distortion, you're all good - sometimes you just have to turn these receivers up a bit louder to get adequate volume/SPL for your space. The Klipsch speakers are pretty efficient, if it sounds good then there shouldn't be much to worry about! :)

      I went from an Onkyo TX-NR757 (2015) to a Yamaha TSR-700 / RX-VA6 (2020) and the sound output was like night and day. The Yamaha was able to drive the older speakers so much better and way below reference sound levels than the Onkyo and with clarity. I still loved the Onkyo's on-screen interface more, but the difference in vibrancy was astounding.
