What sadist is in charge of naming words for speech impediments? Rhoticism starts with an R. Lisp has an S in it. They're doing this on purpose.
Maybe they're mostly meant for others to describe them, not to be used by the people affected.
Plus rhoticism means you _do_ pronounce your Rs, so that checks out.

I think “ speech impediment inconsistencies“ would have been a better title. He still has a speech impediment in most of these clips, even if he manages to pronounce one word correctly

You forgot Homestar very clearly enunciating _"Are"_ in Homestar Talker. That might be the most single cursed sound clip of Homestar I can think of, and that's saying a LOT.
Same thing with "Homestar" and "Marzipan" and maybe "Great". With "Homestar" it very clear and it is absolutely _cursed_

Throughout the entirety of Kooky Moonlight Homestar also sings without his impediment, and after noticing it it is _weird_
i have a slightly similiar speach impediment (i cannot make the TH sound conciously. i tend to use either a V sound, a D sound or an F sound.) i sometimes unconcoiusly while talking will make a TH sound while saying certian words then not know how i did it after the fact. i like to think this is what homestar is going through. he struggles to make an R sound when told to conciously but can sometimes slip one out without thinking. and i think thats kinda neat.

Also, Homestar properly says “Army” in the TMBG recording session version of Everybody Knows It.
Like he said, he has trouble with his Rs. It's hard for him to say the R sound, but that doesn't mean he mean he always mispronounces it. People with speech impediments in real-life can be like that.

1:01 Yep, this one always sounded so off to me! I was wondering why Homestar was suddenly a good singer, and him saying “words” made me do a double take. I remember back then, I refreshed the video a few times just to make schoh I wasn’t hearing things.
I always just put that down to it being an "alternate" Homestar that wasn't really him
