Rob, you're saving me all kinds of time finding this software on my own! Another winner for the linux arsenal, and you even showed us how to use it ... you're the best!
Whoa, super awesome video and program! I'll have to give this one a go on Linux. Typically I run autostakkert through WINE, so it'd be nice to run a software that runs natively. Thanks for this video, Rob!
Thanks Mike! PSS rules! I hope there's more development because I've had some issues on mac and linux, it's amazing though, and easy to work round the problems
Better to shoot individual RAW frame to stack than using the video on the 550D or any DSLR , you're losing about 3/4 of the available resolution. And Registax Wavelets are much more refined . It seems an OK software for quick rough imaging but the PIPP / AS!3 / Reg combination still rules the roost .
Is there anything out there on how to install this Planetary System Stacker? I have been using Lynkeos and it is getting so old it just will not work on my newer Macs.
Hi! There's info on installation in the user guide PDF - github.com/Rolf-Hempel/PlanetarySystemStacker/blob/master/Documentation/PlanetarySystemStacker_User-Guide.pdf
I got it working! I started with deleting Python and all the python files I found on my mac from Python 3.10. Then I installed an older version, Python 3.7.2. I installed homebrew (using the terminal) by following the instructions given on the website. I also installed Xcode from the mac app store (took about 20 hours until everything was downloaded and installed). I did not have to open python, Xcode, or homebrew. I think it just needs to be installed on your computer. I opened the terminal and typed in: pip3 install planetary-system-stacker Then you should be able to open the PSS by typing PlanetarySystemStacker into the terminal. My mac runs on Monterey 12.2.1 and has an Intel processor.
@@X_Excelsior OK I will have to look into this. Using a PC just seams like a horrible ideal. If I can figure it out ill try to do a video on it myself.
Planetary System Stacker won't install on Mac computers with the latest version of Python 3 installed. Why can't it be updated to use the latest software?
@@ClearAmbientSkies Hi, I have all the folders and files installed but have no clue what to click to open it. Can you help by any chance? Thanks. BTW I have no idea what Python is or where I'd find it on my Mac (if it has it or if I need it). Totally lost.
Hi Rob, I am a computer/software retard. I have downloaded PSS onto my M1 Mac. However, Rolf, the designer of it, hasn't explained (that I can see anywhere) how one then opens it. There are folders and files I'm looking at in the PSS folder I have downloaded and I haven clue which to click to open the damned thing. Can you help? Thanks.
Any hints how to install on Mac OS? I followed the instructions (pip install planetary-system-stacker) but seems it couldn't find a compiler nor fortran compiler. I have Xtools, so what am I missing?

Wonderful to hear, thank you! So cool that there are free tools like this
Going to give this one a go. Thanks, Rob!

Hi Rob, how long are your MOV files? How long do you recommend recording the moon? Thank you for a great video.

I have the same problem, if I figure something out I will tell you
@@X_Excelsior Thanks. I used to be very good at this stuff in college but that was a long time ago now.

How do I install this with Python on my MacBook? I need you to do a video on that!
How do you actually install Planetary System Stacker. Never installed something like this before on my Mac.
It's tricky if you're not used to it. I wasn't used to it, took me a lot of googling and some frustration at having to figure stuff out

I think Rolf Hempel only really writes software for windows
Just an update, I've recently installed PSS on MacOS Ventura. Seems to be working fine.
