Hands down you have outdone yourself on this video I’ll been a fan for years and I know how far you came with discus from the ones your lost so keep up the great work 👍🏾
Nice tank and setup. You said discus don't like a lot of minerals in their water. I agree with this and I wish more hobbyists did. Would help a lot I think. I'll sub for your discus vids!👍🐠🐠🐠🐠💯
Hi! Great video which contains lots of very useful information how to keep this wonderful fish. I am little bit struggling with my discus tank so this particular video gave me significant advice. Thank you!
You're awesome with your info 😁 I'm about to set up a 100 gallon tank for Discus so I'm saving your vid for future reference. Oh! & You're gorgeous too✌️🏴
i have bred discus myself for few years and here's my valuable advice to all of the viewers: - First and foremost, do your level best to keep the water clean or in other words, minimize ammonia and other pollutants (use a good quality filter). This will maintain your fishes' appetite. You only need to do a 10-15% water change once every 2 days. i use bare tank. - feed high quality granules if you think beefheart is too much work (Otohime is my top recommendation - 55-60% protein). In addition, you could do top dressing by spraying your granules with high quality vitamins. I go to extra length to ensure my pellets are wet with my own vitamin mixture and let it sit in the fridge for a few days where they will eventually dry up. - condition your fishes on granules when they reach 2-2.5cm (start with 500-650 microns and increase to 700-850 microns when they are 3cm and above. 1-1.5mm for adults depending on size. - i suggest feeding minimum 3 times a day - 7.30am / 1.30pm / 6.30pm. Lights out 2 hrs after last meal to allow your fish to properly digest the food. A very successful breeder shared this with me. - treat your fishes regularly for internal and external parasites. I do this once every mth and my fishes are fine so far. Although i am not a professional, i hope this helps. It may or may not work for you. Cheers
i use discus minerals in my ro/di water. i buy from germany, keeps my gh at 60-90ppms kh-10ppms. ph 6.4 water temp 86 degrees. lots of water changes and feedings, planted tank. 4 inch sand bed. love your videos
I love your tank, discus and explanation! Are those real Oak leaves in your tank? Are they to help buffer PH and soften the water or just decor? I like them a lot and have an Oak forest in my back yard.
I'm keeping my discus for 2 full on years now ,yes they are pain in a** but once you have found the secret of your water parameters bang on! In fact my discus bred in hard water with 150dGH !!!
i rescued some discus, they are all stunted and a few of them didn't make it D: i've learned so much about discus now, i love them! I think mine are too far developed, but that's okay they can live their lives out in comfort at least.
Excellent video, i definitely liked an subscribed. I am seeing some white poop coming out of my discus. I used Metroplex an they seem to b doin a lil better. Greetings from trinidad btw.
Beautiful fish you have! Mine will not eat ANYTHING but frozen blood worms and a little bit of brine shrimps. They are 2-3 inches and I have a blue one that is stunted (I bought him online 7 months ago and it came like that, never grew). They won't touch pellets, nor flakes. I lost 5 of them due to probably hexamita (one by one they stopped eating and lost weight); I recently treated with Fish Zole (Metronidazole 500mg/20 gal) for 8 days and the rest seem to eat better. How do you make them eat dry food??
Izabella, I recently did a Hikari PraziPro treatment on our 75g planted community tank. We (added in the last 5weeks) 6 discus fries from 1.25" to 2.75" in the tank that I suspected of having parasites/worms. One of the discus, have become extremely stunted and has not eaten in over a week. I usually feed 4x daily with a combination of beefheart mix, freeze dried bloodworms and flakes, but he refuses to take anything. 3 of the 6 passed worms the first 2 days and are doing quite well with the treatment. I'm at a loss with what to do with the stunted discus...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! TIA
What size are your Discus? Also, do small Discus change in size? I wanted to purchase a Yellow color Discus and the pet owner said that when they are smaller you can’t really tell the color. Is that true?
Hey I have a question. I have six juveniles and I was wondering. Would I be able to grow them out in a 20 gallon tank? I have a 75 planted and don’t want to stunt them. I also have a 40 gallon breeder planted as well but for my German blue rams. Been thinking about taking it down so my discus could grow out in there but I’m looking if alternative of a 20 gallon bare bottom will work.
Hi Izabella, just found you on youtube,im just starting a planted discus tank 75 gallon, have had the plants in the tank for 5 weeks now getting ready to order up some discus, would you start with small 2 inch discus or 3 inch ?Love your tank and fish.
After keeping discus for some time now, I have to agree that you'll do much better just starting with larger discus. They are tougher and harder to stunt. Less feeding needed so easier to maintain water quality. :)
My 4 discus are around 2.5 inches and I've had them for 3 months and they are not growing. They are SUPER competitive feeders, even my 9in angelfish gets overwhelmed by them. They are very aggressive and fight with each other on sight. It's a 75 gallon btw. My other angelfish was smaller than them when I got him, but now he is around 5 inches already. I dont get it. 1 does seem to have gotten a little bigger, but the other 3 do not seem to be growing. They eat flakes, pellets, and brine shrimp and I know I feed them enough.
You talk about powerfull filtration but I can only see a sponge filter and an internal filter on a tank with at least 7-8 fish! This tank would need 2 large canisters to handle the bioload.
I have a question not so much on stunting my four discus or about 3 1/2 inches I bought them about six or seven weeks ago I noticed not a lot of fecal matter on the sand and then I seen it today it looks like they are pooping White chunks.Could you tell me what that is and how I should treat it and should I move them to a hospital tank or treat the whole tank seeing there’s only four of them it’s a 50 gallon tank and the sump holds about 10 gallons any help would be appreciated thank you
It sounds like tapeworms. Try prazi pro first and then plug in a good UV for prevention of parasitic spores ! If my advice works well lease gimme a good review on my FB page :)
Izabella AquaZone I have some prazi pro But no UV light. It’s strange because I had them in quarantine for about three or four weeks and I use that before I put them in my main tank.I only have four it’s a 50 gallon tank the sump holds a little over 10 so would you suggest just treat the whole tank instead of putting them in a quarantine tank and I’ll definitely give you a thumbs up if everything works but they seem to be fine are eating well They’re not acting sluggish they seem healthy but if it’s a parasite I want to get right on it thank you for the advice
Always treat all tank. Spores can be anywhere really. And check water quality. Check my video about Fish Anorexia explained. Check all parameters in there first and then medicate
Izabella AquaZone Have a really bad water here the best I can get my PH is like 7.6 and my nitrates in the mid 30s the water is terrible here. You can’t even use it for coffee. I do a 20% water change once a week I put the water in 5 gallon buckets and let it sit for a couple days so the chemicals will evaporate. I’m just Learning how to take care of discus I know it’s a lot of work but you’re so beautiful
Tubifex worms have evolved to live in sewage they are the worst thing you can feed any fish. My discus wont even eat them. The best thing i have found to feed discus hands down is 1 your own grown feeder fish/shrimp, or if your not comfortable with feeding baby guppies and shrimp, then id go with mega marine algae mix from hikari mixed with frozen blood worms, and frozen spirulina brine shrimp. Its a frozen food mix with a ton of vegetation, and meat protien perfect for a discus that's a omnivore.
To grow huge big discus is extremely expansive daily 90 pourcent water changes clean water same temperature in combination with variety of rich protein Food...

Cool videos with cool accent and cool information 😎 🐠
I got something good from your explanation on discus. Thank you 🙏
great video topic, I haven't heard anyone discuss Discus stunting in far too long, and I use this example for other high bodied fish
Thanks !
Izabella AquaZone LMK if you ever wanna collab on some reef topics 🙃
@@ReefBuildersVideo sure let's do it !

Christopher Khoo what do you use to treat internal and external parasites?
stew mars kusuri for internal and potassium permanganate for external
Erm what type/brand of vitamins and medications did you to your discus when treating internal parasites?
@@helenseah1649 Kusuri Wormer Plus. However i need to stress time and time again that happy discus tend to fight off internal parasites much quicker.
Thank you very much for your advice. Appreciate. 😊😊😊
Great information that I can start applying to my discus tank today!

Good work !
What do you usually feed them? Mine are picky eaters, not eating the bhm, tried adding garlic guard.
Really great information 🌸👍.. I hope you always keep talking about discus 😁
Good advice, love your Discus tank 🤓🎄☃️
Thank you ! Trying my best hehe

i have 3 with bigger eyes and oval body...tons of water hanges..vibra bites granuales...flakes....they seem to look better
@@louchelada8296 vibra bites are amazing!! I've seen the results in color with my own eyes.

Hi nice setup, may i know is that tiger barb or some other barb?
What type of barb is it??
Yes and Ruby red and green barbs
Izabella AquaZone thanks ma
Thank you. You answered everything I was wondering. The other fish in the Aquarium does feeding that much effect them?
yes, preferrably young small fish that need to grow up also
Very good and informative video😊👍
Glad you liked it
How did you handle the bullying? Any tips?
Heating after water change is it ok?
What are the medications you use for them?

If they refuse most foods it's due to internal parasites or water quality or water parameters . Check all of the above
Where can i get the filters you described? Thx in advance
Thank you for the best advice 👍
Thank I appreciate

Carbon does not reduce nitrate level. But anion base resin can remove nitrate.

Question - you don't recommend Blood or Tubifex worms. Is the same true for the freeze dried version? Also what about California black worms?
Black Worms safer
I love your videos, very informative.
Thanks lots !
Which light you use

I would put on bigger tank
Izabella...will it not constipate them if we feed 7-8 times per day?
No because their metabolism metabolizes faster in 86-88 degrees.

What medication do you use
What is the name of the floating plant and the really long thin plant the one that goes all the one that goes to the top of the tank
Thanks
Where did you get the leaves in top of your tank from
The great outdoors!
I net one of my big discus to measure it. I didnt take it out of tank when I net it. It got really sick and died.
You can't do much when they are in a community tank, especially a planted one.
You have to separate the fish and treat to get it back to normal.
