    Original description of this video:
A video with air traffic control soundtrack: A B747 takes off from San Francisco International Airport, passing the industrial city of South San Francisco and west of the San Francisco shoreline, before turning northeast for a view of the city's downtown towers, the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, Mount Diablo, the Sacramento Delta, Lake Tahoe, Donner Lake, and Reno.
The flight continues on its northeasterly heading over northern Nevada, southeastern Idaho, and Montana into Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Hudson Bay, northern Quebec and Baffin Island.
At daybreak, the flight heads southeast above the North Atlantic between Greenland and southwest of Iceland. It enters the "Shamrock" of Shannon and the "Scottish" of Prestwick air traffic control zones covering air traffic bound for London.
Descent begins over north and east London, affording views of central London landmarks, such as the London Eye and the Westminster Palace (UK Parliament) along the River Thames, before landing to the west on Heathrow Airport's runway 27L.

I flew to America from London back in June, halfway through the trip I had a boat tour around Alcatraz when I went to San Fran, such a beautiful place, cannot wait to go back in April! I thought San Fran looked beautiful along the coast, looks even better from the air! Brilliant video! :D

I didn't know that Continental still had 747s in 2015.
Aircrafts like that 777 at 11:43 are usually the long distance trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific planes of today, you can see that they're just as big as 747s (minus the second story hump up front). That 777 and the others around like it are probably either flying to Europe (i.e. Paris, Rome, Budapest, etc.) or to the Far East (i.e. Hong Kong, Bangkok, Shanghai, Singapore, etc.)
12:10 - 12:30, the smaller aircrafts like those 737s are for like 1 - 3 hour flights to other US destinations. They don't carry enough fuel to go trans-Atlantic or trans-Pacific. Those 737s are probably flying to any of the destinations such as L.A., Denver, Seattle, Dallas, St. Louis, Las Vegas, etc.

Once when I flew from SFO to LHR, instead of flying northeast over Canada we flew directly east which is the long way but we arrived in London 9:45 minutes later. The pilot used the Jetstream to expedite our journey.

Awesome video thanks for pointing out monuments and places. Thanks for sharing your video I'm going on vacation to San Francisco soon so this video helps to get me there in my mind. It will be my first time going to San Francisco I'm looking forward to it. I have always wanted to go to London so maybe I will do that some day. Love listening to the air traffic control.

No that can't be right I think it takes longer than 2 hours. I looked it up on google and it's a 10 hour flight from san francisco to london.

@@anonie8770, TK was joking. The flight was 11 hours. The passenger obviously didn't feel like holding the camera to the window the remaining 8 hours of the flight and wanted that time to eat, read, watch movies on the tv screen, sleep, and go to the bathroom. 3 hours still showed alot of interest to record and observe the scenery

I have never been asked to lower my window shade to accomodate other passengers sleeping. Is this standard on all International flights, or just UAL specific? Oh, this is an EXTREMELY awesome video, with awesome quality.

Usually trans-Atlantic flights are not needed to have to do that because they're usually leaving the US at the start of night time and arrival in Europe is in the morning, with the one exception of flights leaving the US in the early morning and arriving in Europe late at night.

fog in san francisco is common like rain in london. 3/4 of the border in san francisco is water and is in a drought which makes a lot of fog.

Whenever the pilot chose to allow it, the air-to-ground talk came through on channel 9 of the IFE on board the aircraft. This was a United feature on its previous-generation United-metal planes from the 1980s to the mid 2010s. No Continental aircraft had it, and it was removed from all aircraft with the upgrading of the IFE to the present generation's multi-channel and stream-to-your-laptop system.

How was you able to get the sir traffic control audio?

    • @backpacktrot
      @backpacktrot  8 лет назад +1

Prior to the merger with Continental, all UA jets with in-flight audio service allowed the captain--at her or his discretion--to put the air-to-ground voice communication onto one of the channels. I don't think Continental planes have never been fitted with this facility, so as time goes on, I suspect we will find fewer newly-purchased airplanes of the new United being equipped with this.
