Tour around the QRA Site at RAF Upper Heyford

Tour around the QRA Site at RAF Upper Heyford, QRA (Quick Reaction Alert) This is where the F-111 where housed fully load and ready to go with 5 mins notice they would have direct access to the NATO Runway just yards from the QRA.
Also we were given access to where the aircrew would have slept and eat during their 72 shift. The cafeteria where they eat still had the menu still in place plus the price list.

Went on a visit there in the late 1980's when the Americans were still running the show. sat in a F111. they had the U2 spy planes as well. we went into one of the de-compression chambers for a lecture by an American Airforce chap.

I bet it was a hole different experience back then. Did they give you a tour of the base ?

@@DRSEXPLORING Yes an American Airforce man took us round, when we reached the F111 hangar he warned us that two guards would come and read us the riot act we were told not to laugh or joke as they would have us lying on the grass with a gun in our backs! Once inside the hangar our guard said we were free to laugh and joke again! Very good fun.

was the F-111 still in the hanger?

@@DRSEXPLORING Yes and the piolet was there to answer our Questions. He was mainly concerned when we got to sit in it we did not put our feet on the seat where is but was going to be!
