It is very strange but overall, I dig it. I always dug the TD 27 sounds more than the TD 17. The TD 17kvx def gives you more bang for your buck but it can’t hold water to playing a TD 27 kit. That positional sensing is a game changer if you are looking for “real feel”. The PDX 100 snare, even though it’s smaller than what you get with TD 17, is bangin!! I don’t use VSTs so the module sounds have to bring it for me. I guess if you are about appearance over feel or practicality, you could just go for the VAD 306 because it’s in the same price range but you’re gonna notice a difference. Plus, with the TD 27, you get 2 digital inputs. TD 17 you don’t. You know Roland is gonna bring out more digital pads. Damn you Roland, you always do this! Lol
Hey Justin - I'm wondering if Roland is hoping some people upgrade the pads. Putting a top notch module with those pads doesn't make sense to me. The TD27 module being compatible with digital snare and cymbal makes me think that's what they are hoping. Upgrade of $729 for the snare and $470 for the ride cymbal. Not even counting the toms. Just a thought. Thanks for the video!

I actually get this. I care nothing about bigger sizes. But I do care about the better module and individual outs for playing live. The TD17 loses out to me with just a stereo out. Could you maybe do a future video on one of those? I would really appreciate it, mostly to gather your thoughts. Thanks
1. I can say Jazz style players might like to have sensetive features. More than additional toms and cymbals. 2. E-drum companies don't really make any minimal kit designs with positional sensing feature. 3. Instead, thay always have sooooo many variations of FULL size drum kits without positional sensing AND 3 zone ride. So, To enjoy the Snare 'and' the Ride cymbal more like real ones, you should go for the highest line anyway. Am I Correct?
So of the Roland options if I can pick up a TD27K for the same price as the TD17kVX that'd be a great deal and the kit to go for given that I'll already be going over budget but a non negotiable is a decent standard (non rack mount) hihat?
Will the new module include round robin sample nuances, multilayered sound import, better natural sound, sympathetic buzz of snare, etc. So that the drums won’t sound as sterile as electric usually does?
I hate those plastic inner rims. If you're wearing headphones and you accidentally hit them, the volume of the hit is really ear-damaging. I can't see why they're still making them.
Hello a good friend suggested me this channel and I got a question i play drums in church but our dru.s is terrible sound terrible the toms are ruined and you can't hear it so what kind of electric drum do you recommend me for my church i want an electric one but one that sound 👌👍 and loud as well
@@sabianinglewood6683 Roland seems to be out of touch with what a consumer would want in an "economy line" kind of kit. the 17KL was such a huuuuge bust too. cutting out the bluetooth was a bad move there and cutting out those digital pads is an even worse move here!
What are the pros/cons of drumming on a e-kit vs a multipad+foot triggers? I'm not sure which to go with. I really like the compact form factor of a sample pad but a e-kit might be easier to play?
it would help, I think, if you label each drumset when you put a multiple of sets on the screen. some times it take a minute to figure out which one you are talking about at any given time
Is there a way to mute / not send the click to the monitor out on the TD25 module? Meaning I should be able to hear it on my headphones, but not when anything is connected to any of the master outputs

I really enjoy following your videos. To me, none of Roland’s drum sets have sounded anywhere near as good as the TD30. They all fall flat underneath that one. It’s too bad they discontinued it. They should’ve just continue the lineage with the exact same technology but with an added a layer of user sampling on top of it.
Hi everyone!,, a question...some one can talk me what about the e-drumms “millennium MPs-850” from Thomann ....I think is ok but I don’t have some reviews about...some can can help me?
Hello! Thank you for the videos. Can you teach me how to connect a laptop to my TD-27 and play with some programs? Also, can you recommend what programs are great? (For new voices, and for recording, and for playalong tracks) . :)
If you have a Mac, then life is good. GarageBand is free. Then you just need a $2 USB printer cable. Go into setup and turn on USB midi sending on you drum module. Plug it in. Then check the sound preferences in GarageBand. Done. Of course you’ll need to download all the drum kits. You can also get free demo drum plugins like Steven Slate Drums 5.5. Puts a TD-50 to shame. But I find it’s still slightly better feel to play the built in kits. But if you are recording... Laptop all the way. This is what all the studios do.

Roland knows the competition is coming for them and they're scrambling. Their modeling is no longer the sliced bread 🍞 of e drums. Sorry Roland fanboys. 2021: The beginning of the rude awakening for Roland V-Drums.
I wouldn't put any money on that because of mind share. It's a similar situation that happened with ATI/AMD and NVIDIA. In many instances, the former had the better product, but people still bought the latter regardless.
Hey love the channel! I currently have an expanded TD 10 and looking to upgrade my module. Will any newer module work with my drums? Which module would you recommend?
Why? The only reason to get the Td-27 is to get the digital ride and snare. Get the TD-27 expansion and some used pads. Positional sensing? Meh. all that means is hot spotting
This has to be the most overpriced kit in their entire lineup. You can't use those plastic rim pads and same cymbals at this price point. They have plenty of 12 inch pads to substitute and a new 16 inch ride. What were they thinking. Lesser pads than the aging 25KV. I'm gonna be very surprised if this sells any volume. The resale value on this kit is gonna plummet as soon as you take it out the store as well. I'd strongly recommend you avoid this one.
You neglected to mention the fact that the TD27K, TD27KV, and VAD306 are all built around the same module, and that the module has the same digital snare and ride inputs as the TD50.
@@franklentz4727 I was looking at the VAD506 and noticed the TD27 module doesn't have all the inputs in back for all the pads, and then I discovered that there's a cable you plug into the bottom of the module and then plug your pads into that. But I figured out that if you have an extra kick drum and extra floor tom, you would only have one aux input left. But that was the basic kit I wanted, so I ordered it along with a TD50 module, which allows me to incorporate most of the pads from my TD30 and still have aux inputs left over!
@@garydavidson922 The VAD506 with the TD-50 is one nice set. Congrats!. I have nothing against the TD-27 itself. But the whole reason to get it is the digital ride and snare. This TD27K-SC doesnt have either of those yet has the digital inputs. I just personally do not see why anyone would but the TD-27 without the digital pads?
If anyone can tell Justin because he's probably for getting one of the most important things that's cool about the set People that travel like I used to it's like night and day not having to set up a hi hat stand and a snare stand and bass drums when you just pulled the rack in word and put it in the back of the trailer it's like the best All that crap and all those stands that come with it takes a lot longer I know it doesn't look as cool but when you're doing gigs every day and only takes five minutes to tell your drums down it's so much better
I got the td17kv wish I had the extra cash to get the x cuz my hh sucks. Is the vh10 my only viable hh option would also like to add another floor tom or better snare moving pdx to tom plus 3rd cymbal can the td17 handle that or do i need an expansion module or something?
@@Rockerrobin I believe that's the correct labels, yeah. It will take either cymbals or drum pads on either input. The hi hat included is using the same input that you could upgrade to the VH10 so you wouldn't necessarily lose an input.
Can you recommend me a modular model of a module that I could purchase separate pieces for? I'd like to start with just snare, hat and kick. I'm not sure which snare, hat and kick I want yet, but I figure it'd be better to start at the module. I would like it to work with MIDI, (through USB) and through my DAW. I'd like it to also be very accurate with the sensitivity. I think that I'd like to spend about $600 on the module itself; however, I'd gladly pay a couple hundred more if there's a considerable reason to do so.
I've never had a anything to really write home about. I bought a kit for 3 or 4 hundred dollars from best buy in 2005. I don't know anything about edrums, I just want to be able to easily record simple drum beats for my music.
roland should've put better toms or atleadt a better ride or kick pad... I don't know why they're still putting those toms with plastic rims on their new sets even though a lot of people don't really like them
What I like about edrums is the smaller sizes. I've lugged acoustics for decades. Now, edrums are as big as acoustics and oftentimes as heavy or heavier. Shit on that. Gimme 10 inch pads and an excellent module and I'm good.
I don't know how I found this, but Target sells eDrums, and not the crappy brands either, and they have some deals. www.target.com/c/electronic-drums-percussion-musical-instruments/-/N-0tayp The more I looked into this, it appears that they are trying to be like Amazon and Walmart, and are simply allowing other websites and stores to sell/advertise their products through a Marketplace type setting. I'm not sure what sort of benefit this has for the end user, except maybe free shipping or easier returns. Edit One of the only advantages I found was the protection plans through either Target or Walmart especially, are a heck of a lot lower than buying them from the typical stores.
Seems like pointless release. I'll stick with my trusty TD-25KV for now. Better looking pads on the TD25 than those horrible plastic ones on this new kit.
sound should be important and snare dynamics, in music, its like the world today mp3 music is downvalued, if attitudes are throw away so will the art, quality in sound counts and more snare variation is more worthy of use on a record in my world anyway
They should have at least used the same pads as the td25kv, maybe even slightly better. Instead they use their crappy plastic rim pads instead of the pdx pads. I would much rather buy a td25kv and give up some functionality like Bluetooth than get a td27k
He always says more bang for your buck but really that's not true Do you want the module to be the best part of the kit You can use $10 pads and it will still sound decent but without the good module it's gonna sound like crap no matter what pads you have The TG 27 has a real sounds like the TD 50 it blows the 17 away
why is every Roland drum kit in such a awkward spot? technology is advancing at such a huge pace and it's insane that eDrum companies can't get more bang for the buck. All i can do is draw analogies to other technology... Roland seems like Nintendo making the Wii U and they need to rise to make the Switch, or NVIDIA's new low end cards are blowing away their old high end cards for like half the price. I've been hoping for years that eDrums could become more affordable and have a huge spike in quality, but it seems like it's still toothpicks, superglue, cheap ass electronics and early 2000s computers
also TD17, TD25, TD27 are like $500 or so apart but all are soooo similar and use the same components... can't we get an honest lineup where we have Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, where each one is clearly better than the other and are priced accordingly. It's like Roland is ran by ants
I played acoustic set back in the 80's and 90's, just got back into drumming with the TD-17kv. It blows away any basic acoustic kit. I now have the Phil Collins Gated Reverb toms if I want, along with a ton of other sounds. Plus, I can sample my own and shape the sounds. So, coming from pure acoustic and truly terrible early edrums, these new sets TD-17 and above are amazing.

Could you maybe do a future video on one of those? I would really appreciate it, mostly to gather your thoughts. Thanks
I would love to see a td27kvx
Of pure curiosity, what elements would you like to see upgraded on it?
Same elements as the
TD-25KVX but with TD-27 module?
Maybe with a digital ride as well?
@@RonniRasmussen Probably good to replace or work together with the TD25 which is more limited in terms of plug-ins as shown in 4:04. (?)
In today’s news: you have to pay more for more realistic features
@@ritzk79 + Comes with Full kit configuration only :)
Great Comparison!!! I’m lucky I got my TD27KV for $2300.00 New!!! I’ll tell you that story another time
So of the Roland options if I can pick up a TD27K for the same price as the TD17kVX that'd be a great deal and the kit to go for given that I'll already be going over budget but a non negotiable is a decent standard (non rack mount) hihat?
Will the new module include round robin sample nuances, multilayered sound import, better natural sound, sympathetic buzz of snare, etc. So that the drums won’t sound as sterile as electric usually does?
4:30 - buy the TD17KVX for $1800
Yup
Roland is only releasing this in the USA to Costco.
Well NOW this makes sense! I just noticed a Roland digital piano at Costco last week, but not a great one.
Does anyone know when this drumstick comes out
Does anyone know when this drum set is available
I hate those plastic inner rims. If you're wearing headphones and you accidentally hit them, the volume of the hit is really ear-damaging. I can't see why they're still making them.
Hello a good friend suggested me this channel and I got a question i play drums in church but our dru.s is terrible sound terrible the toms are ruined and you can't hear it so what kind of electric drum do you recommend me for my church i want an electric one but one that sound 👌👍 and loud as well
damn, but why would you want the 27 module without the digital ride and snare!
I really like the compact form factor of a sample pad but a e-kit might be easier to play?
it would help, I think, if you label each drumset when you put a multiple of sets on the screen. some times it take a minute to figure out which one you are talking about at any given time
Just bought this kit in the UK for £1299 from GAK. If I'd wanted the TDK17kvx it would have cost me £1629 from the same store.
Nice! Just waiting for mine here in Europe that was also cheaper than a TD17KVX
Where did you find this kit I've been wanting it so bad
@@DANNYGOLDBERG51 GAK in the UK.
Is there a way to mute / not send the click to the monitor out on the TD25 module? Meaning I should be able to hear it on my headphones, but not when anything is connected to any of the master outputs
@Huub83 Drums in which menu and how?
Justin what are the best drum sets for 300_ 500 dollars 2020.
Does the VAD 306 have positional sensing?
Nope. Uses the TD-17 module that doesn't support positional sensing.
Costco has it priced right around 2k now
i have an unrelated question. i have the 11k module. can i switch my snare pad for a pd128s-bc? will it work? is it just that I wont be using it at its full potential? i cant find any info about this. if anyone knows, please inform me !
Can you help me? Alesis surge or csd600? And why?
For around that price I would go for the Millenium MPS-750X, just my 2 cents.
I really enjoy following your videos. To me, none of Roland’s drum sets have sounded anywhere near as good as the TD30. They all fall flat underneath that one. It’s too bad they discontinued it. They should’ve just continue the lineage with the exact same technology but with an added a layer of user sampling on top of it.
is there anyway to get a kit from the td 30 onto a td50? specifically the "melodious" kit?
Hi everyone!,, a question...some one can talk me what about the e-drumms “millennium MPs-850” from Thomann ....I think is ok but I don’t have some reviews about...some can can help me?
Hello! Thank you for the videos. Can you teach me how to connect a laptop to my TD-27 and play with some programs? Also, can you recommend what programs are great? (For new voices, and for recording, and for playalong tracks)
Hi my church is looking for E drums for worship service, we have a compact sound proof hall where approx. 80 to 100 people can sit. Our church budget is 1 lack 40 thousand Indian rupees which is almost 2000 dollars. Please help me with your expertise. Thank you.
Roland knows the competition is coming for them and they're scrambling. Their modeling is no longer the sliced bread 🍞 of e drums. Sorry Roland fanboys.
2021: The beginning of the rude awakening for Roland V-Drums.
@Bill Perri you could say that again loll (disappointment)
I wouldn't put any money on that because of mind share. It's a similar situation that happened with ATI/AMD and NVIDIA. In many instances, the former had the better product, but people still bought the latter regardless.
Competition is good, brings the prices down across the board and brings up the quality and/or features.
Can anyone tell me when this kid is going to be released
What is the e drum behind you?
It’s been on the uk website for a while
I just want the module? already have everything else
I think from rolands point of view they want to makes kits for everyone even the niche groups who would buy this kit.
I was thinking the same, I don´t think they are going to sell a ton of this new kit, if that´s what they are expecting...
Conclusion: only buy this if you have the money
You neglected to mention the fact that the TD27K, TD27KV, and VAD306 are all built around the same module, and that the module has the same digital snare and ride inputs as the TD50.
True, But without the actual digital snare and ride. Which is beyond strange.
If anyone can tell Justin because he's probably for getting one of the most important things that's cool about the set
People that travel like I used to it's like night and day not having to set up a hi hat stand and a snare stand and bass drums when you just pulled the rack in word and put it in the back of the trailer it's like the best
All that crap and all those stands that come with it takes a lot longer
I know it doesn't look as cool but when you're doing gigs every day and only takes five minutes to tell your drums down it's so much better
I got the td17kv wish I had the extra cash to get the x cuz my hh sucks. Is the vh10 my only viable hh option would also like to add another floor tom or better snare moving pdx to tom plus 3rd cymbal can the td17 handle that or do i need an expansion module or something?
TD-17 only has two open trigger inputs, allowing an extra tom and an extra cymbal. It will take the Hi hat upgrade as well.
@@revtks that the crash2 and aux
@@Rockerrobin I believe that's the correct labels, yeah. It will take either cymbals or drum pads on either input. The hi hat included is using the same input that you could upgrade to the VH10 so you wouldn't necessarily lose an input.
@@revtks know of any other brands that are better and would work? Or am I stuck with roland?
@@revtks like would an older vh-11 work?
Is this just a TD27kv without the digital snare and ride? Thats kinda dumb... although I do think that the TD27kv is to expensive...
Why the Hell not releasing a vad306 kit with td27 module instead of this nonsense ?
for awhile there i thought i saw Drew Carey
Buy a TD-17 KVX and go buy GetGoodDrums Modern and Massive
this is the td9?
roland should've put better toms or atleadt a better ride or kick pad... I don't know why they're still putting those toms with plastic rims on their new sets even though a lot of people don't really like them
Nobody likes them
If this is worth it the TD25KV is worth it too
Edit: and the TD25K
It's an odd addition to the lineup at best. Did guys from Yamaha product marketing move over to Roland? 😂 VAD and Strike series are more compelling.
What I like about edrums is the smaller sizes. I've lugged acoustics for decades.
Now, edrums are as big as acoustics and oftentimes as heavy or heavier.
Shit on that.
Gimme 10 inch pads and an excellent module and I'm good.
I like the hats and cymbals on this kit, but not a fan of the bass pad or rack at that price point.
I don't know how I found this, but Target sells eDrums, and not the crappy brands either, and they have some deals.
www.target.com/c/electronic-drums-percussion-musical-instruments/-/N-0tayp
The more I looked into this, it appears that they are trying to be like Amazon and Walmart, and are simply allowing other websites and stores to sell/advertise their products through a Marketplace type setting. I'm not sure what sort of benefit this has for the end user, except maybe free shipping or easier returns.
Edit
One of the only advantages I found was the protection plans through either Target or Walmart especially, are a heck of a lot lower than buying them from the typical stores.
Also Td-27k has better rack and is more expandable, compared to td-17kvx
In the uk, the td27k is almost the same price as the alesis strike pro se. The alesis kit beats it in every way
or you could buy a sonor SQ2 drumset, have the best sounding kit in the world, and have money left over
Doesn't work when you don't have space for it or can't play it because of noise issues. Plus, you still need to buy the hardware and cymbals as well.
He always says more bang for your buck but really that's not true
Do you want the module to be the best part of the kit
You can use $10 pads and it will still sound decent but without the good module it's gonna sound like crap no matter what pads you have
The TG 27 has a real sounds like the TD 50 it blows the 17 away
really good cover perfect I like to watch something like that
I have also uploaded a few. I like to stop by on my channel
no midi-in, no buy
why is every Roland drum kit in such a awkward spot? technology is advancing at such a huge pace and it's insane that eDrum companies can't get more bang for the buck.
@@revtks i agree man TD17KVX is awesome, so why does Roland want you to pay another $1000 for basically the same thing? glad you're enjoying it!!
Over priced all of them I dint say not quality just could be better deals outhere happy shopping
Roland's indecipherable VAD and TDs just shows they don't know how to market their products to customers
