Wow, that was quite a nostalgia trip! It was great to see my birth-town of Banbury from back in the day (I was 21 at the time, and coming to the end of my engineering apprenticeship in a job that I hated! I remember seeing the class 47s leaving Oxford - where I went to college - departing the platforms with flames shooting out of the exhausts!)
I have lived in nearby Bicester for most of my life and would go to Marylebone whenever I travelled to London, but it was great to see all those "Thames Turbos" in NSE livery, as well as picking out bits from that chatter such as the different Virgin regional routes and the emergence of class 66s. Well done for uploading this.

I recognise Maidenhead Station at 17:43 - the bit at 18:45, The past few weeks, workmen have been chopping down trees on the embankment on the left. The bridges all along here were changed a few years ago for the big Electrification project (They didn't cut down the trees then though, which maybe puzzling). Anyway great to see this video of the route out of Paddington. It is Cox Green Community Centre on the left just after you have gone under the road bridge.

As an ex Saltley driver with XC from 96 - 2021 i drove this many times with 47s. Also 37s as the guys talk about. Mainly EPS ones on the 14.18 Padd - Glasgow. Great times, before the rancid Voyagers came in. XC was far better than West Coast, boring electrics every day from Euston etc. We went everywhere as Birmingham drivers. Padd, Brighton, Pompey, Bournemouth, Bristol, Preston, Manchester, Liverpool, Cardiff, and Ramsgate with D9000. Far better than stale boring electrics 99% of the time.

How does the ride in the diesel compare with that of a coach, is it harder? Bumpier? For instance, looking forward to a reply!!

Noisy draughty and uncomfortable. But far more entertaining than a coach . 😁👍

Not so much as 'foggy' but Thames Valley mist or 'sea fret' as we say in Yorkshire. Nice to have a ride without the steelwork and knitting of modern overheads.

Too much yabbering and distraction in that cab for my liking. I'd prefer a driver to focus on the driving.
