Is that William Woollard at 4.24?
Brilliant, the year after I left the UK, family in Woolwich and I lived in Homerton. A blast from the past, thanks.
Surely it was still the Central Wales Line when the video was shot.
Really interesting commentary - thanks for posting. I haven’t done the line since I think 2019 so overdue a visit again inspired by this video, perhaps in the autumn.
At one point in the 80s, british rail threatened to cut that route back to Henley and send all the stratford services via Dorridge with Wootton wawen closing. Since then the stratfotd service has doubled ro 2 an hour with one going vi's each route. That wouldn't have happened with the line closure.
Excellent documentary, very tragic what happened further down the line in October 1987.
Very good, with excellent commentary. Thanks. Advice to visitors: don't go in the high summer, unless you're really fond of dense woodland and brush, because that is all you will see on this line - at least this was the case the last time I travelled on it.
Given that the West Stand at Old Trafford is still under construction in this video, it has to be from June/July 1992, not 1993. I remember it well 🙂
One sunday evening Me and my cousin went to Edgware garage to see the brand new omo buses lined up and ready for service the next morning, then we travelled home on the last 292 RT Edgware to Borehamwood the crew decorated the bus with bunting etc. then the next morning I travelled to school on the first omo bus ...great memories ..i have now been driving buses for 26 years and am presently driving for hedingham in clacton on sea
So little undergrowth compared to these days!
Brings back many memories including seeing the Scania 112 single decker with coach seating.
Excellent once again. Have you the Cambrian at all please?
Very nice I hope Severn bridge junction continues to operate long term fantastic signal box
I hope so too
What a great ride, give me those days back anytime!
I notice an offshoot after leaving fareham which i assume used to go towards gosport? Is this what has now become Henry Court Way, the bus lane?
Fascinating, really enjoyed this thanks. Even an ‘ELS’!!!
The class 501 was withdrawn in 1985 and replaced by 2 car EPB's 2 of which you passed on your journey!
My home patch. Been travelling this line, off and on for getting on for eighty years.
Lovely footage. Real shame about the totally fake out of sync audio repeated over and over
Darsham Station has a butcher's shop on the platform At Christmas time, there are a number of white boxes on the platform with customer's names. This will be the Christmas Club collecting their turkeys.
good vid apart from the film and the sound dont match up. the sound is way ahead of the film.
Super video, filling in a lot of information between what I knew in the 1960s and the present. But WHY didn't they just turn left at Guide Bridge straight to Denton? Doesn't make sense!
Oh OK, I'll answer my own question! I see it was a rail tour so I guess they wanted to see the sights!
These days all single track. If a train breaks down, the lie closes. Passing place in Acle.
Outstanding Video and with the drivers knowledge (wow) made it very interesting. Many thanks for uploading. All the best... Steve!
Filmed by Nick Winfield, I believe?
We went on this open top bus, namely RM 2065 (ALM 65B in August 1996.
The headine states Victoria to Portsmouth. Since when is Hove any part of that route?
Should be turned over to Preservationists!
28:14 oh the memories.... ❤
Happy days 😂
Was this the road that the farmer made network rail use a full-time member of staff to be on a crossing 24/7 when all the rest were upgraded for crossing between his fields.
I loved the RT’s. Used to get an 87 and 23 to London for the day. Both RT’s when I started that in nineteen-hundred-and-frozen-stiff.
Amazing video. Guessing it was filmed somewhen in 1995 or so. Network Southeast is everywhere, so pre privatization, but the Fareham Eastleigh line is electrified (obv) so post 1990. If I'm remembering correctly, the M3 looks complete just past Shawford, so post Twyford down construction, which puts it about 1994 or so. Amazing fascinating video though. I would have been through here a few times, I used to ride the train along to coastway from Horsham to Southampton pretty regularly between 1988 and 1995 or so.. Edit: the 159 at Winchester confirms 1994 or later - they didn't enter service until then.
Love these rides, Mac. Have you considered digitally upscaling your VHS files. There's software out there - not that I have any experience of it.
Well designed, built to last !!
What's with the faint backing music? Sounds awful. Commentary is great, though.
That hooter needs some cough medicine.
@Mac's Tracks is this one of Nick's or Paul's videos? You have a banner on Sydney Gardens tunnel from Paul's DVD sales routes also the video locks a couple of times from Bathampton Junction to Sydney Gardens.
The St. Helen's RT looks superb, The livery really showed off the lines. Wonder if there is a good book on these buses. Coventry Corporation also bought an RT. GKV 99 from new.
Most interesting. Thanks. Strange that there was no stop at Westbury?
Back in the days of Loco Hauled with class 33s and 5 Mk1 coaches, one of the hourly services did stop the next did not for a while on the Portsmouth -Cardiff trains one was to/from Cardiff the other hour to/from Bristol which I think was the Westbury Stopper?
@@Thunderer0872 But isn't Westbury also important as a place to change trains?
@@phwboothonly when there is a connection. Until recently trains to London or the Weymouth line were only every 2-3 hours, the regional railways fast services only called on alternate hours.
This was a South West Trains London Waterloo-Bristol Temple Meads service. Filmed in either 2003 or 2004. All or most of these services did not call at Westbury.
Out of interest, where did you find these ?
A BR employee called Nick recorded these along with him doing lineside footage, but his cab rides are all showcased here with a couple of others on another channel.
I think?
@@Thunderer0872 which channel ?
Would be great to see this video updated to Hi Definition video, still great though....
Great video, but strange to see a stopping service running from Tunbridge Wells to Redhill, because that route nowadays only runs as a non stop service to London Bridge, when the line through Sevenoaks is closed for engineering works.
What a cracking film for its time, yes not best quality but has a lovely charm! Great information & narration, I didn’t realise how beautiful this cross country run is, watched it twice, thanks for posting. Eddie.🤓
Brilliant, very knowledgeable commentary by the man in the know, and the beautiful scenery of Devon, well done!
Excellent captions and chat. Thanks.
They were so noisy.
i play the wherry lines on diesel railcar simulator; nice to see the real thing
That driver was a mind of information, great video and thank for sharing.
Nice to watch this footage. Between 1954 & 1965 we used to take 2 weeks holiday in Lowestoft, sometimes travelling by train, sometimes in my Grandfathers Bedford Dormobile. Overnight (starting around midnight) from Sheffield Victoria on a Manchester newspaper train. Arriving in Yarmouth at Vauxhall, walking over to South Town around 6.30am to catch the Lowestoft train. The link to the video is that the return journey one year involved travelling this route to Beccles as I think there were PW works on the direct line to Yarmouth. At Beccles we reversed and travelled to Yarmouth via Somerleyton Bridge? All the while I tried to convince myself we were going for another 2 weeks holiday in Lowestoft, (I was only 10 years old at the time, or younger!) As well as the clickety clack I used to love following the telegraph wires, dipping down then up again. Happy days.
Must have been via St Olave's, not Somerleyton!
