Can't understand why those Freelanders are so popular. A tractor is smoother. Rubbish offroad. My wife had to have one. She had to be towed out of a damp field when she tried to drive across one for work. T31 x-trail a million times better.
I bought a picanto new a year or two ago and honestly I can see myself holding onto it for a really long time, seems really solid for the price and very livable.
that rattle, check between the bottom of the windscreen and the back of the dashboard and see if there is a pen down there, we had a rattle for months and couldnt cure it and it turned out to be a biro between the screen and the dashboard. you never know.
Nice little lot there James, I had a C1 as a courtesy car and it was a brilliant little car and I was pissed off when I had to return it as it was so economical and fun to drive.

If your KIA ... reg HIL was moted in Northern Ireland they have their own system .... we have only lately been able to do our own history checks .. say the last year or so .... and its a County Fermanagh number ... oh and keep up the good work ... Paul Co Down Northern Ireland
Yeah we are stuck behind the times in regards to our mot systems but it’s not even showing on the tax checker for dvla which NI plates will still show as MOTd and taxed but no history I would advise James to contact DVA to see if it’s still registered to that car as it should still show the cars details regardless
Always worth mentioning that chain cam driven engines still need the tensioners adjusted. If you ignore you will have a wrecked engine. people seem to think they are bulletproof. They're not. I had to do a €3.5k engine rebuild on my x-trail because my regular mechanic never bothered to look at it. Ever. So angry with him, He'd been servicing it from 50k miles and it blew at 230k. he never looked at it despite keeping service records all that time.
That Freelander came up well James! Do you think that Owatrol stuff would restore a plastic red reflector panel which has a bit of bush rash and is a bit flat looking at 10 years old?
Re the various threads on the (currently not recognised by the DVLA) registration, one of the online retailers is selling several very similar plates for between £750 and £1500.

Still, it is always good to have objectives, irrespective of what actually happens, as it gives the impetus for moving forward.

I have recently visited countless main dealership and the car's they have for sale costing £14k - £18k as p/x having missing history, failed mot's, dents/scratches and smelling of I don't know what. I think you sell car's very well, and if I lived down your way I'd definitely look at buying a car from you, the big boys could definitely learn a thing or two from you matey.

Amusing having cruise control. I have a 2020 base model bought new for £6200. Bargain and still have it at 54,000/Only trouble has been offside rear ABS sensor cost £450 at dealer and the next year a N/S ABS I did myself for £50 off eBay. That is a stunning car to get hold what idiot traded it in?
France dwelling friend headed to Kent for that series Freelander several years ago when they were £500 a go. Took it back to his rural area and worked it as a family hack to bits.
The Mk6 Golf has 1.6 or 2 litre diesels, not the old 1.9. The 1.4 TSI petrol like yours is quite common and it was a new engine shortly before the Mk6 was introduced, that's why it is quite refined. I've known a couple of people with them and theirs have been reliable. Yours is a mid-range spec, SE I think.
We had one in an Octavia. Needed a chain replacement due to rattle and was never the same after it had been done unfortunately. Sweet little engine which never felt particularly lacking and returned pretty good mpg!
Great video as usual, I have had problems on the picantos before including the crank worn on the pulley at low mileage too. Quite common apparently, hopefully you won't have that issue
That crank pin problem was restricted to a very small range years ago. It was reported to dealers to check this when you had a service. If you did not have a service you missed this. Some engine had to be replaced.
James that Kia Picanto is displaying the wrong plates that’s why you were having issues getting the reg recognised. I think the previous owner has kept that private plate and it should have had its original plates put back on WF10HYY
Not a personal plate it’s a Northern Ireland plate we didn’t have online MOT checking until recently think this year so it’s most likely registered in England then delivered to customer in NI and has decided to change to our plates so they don’t have to MOT the car until is 4 years old it’s very common but somehow the car has made it back to the mainland
I get the worst off the peel off with the pressure washer, using cheap 1 k lacquer build it up in the peeled area then go a bit further with the last coats, looks OK when done.
Both the Kia and Golf are goers. I have a Golf Mk7 1.4 petrol James, and my engine is the same. At tick-over you'd think it had stopped. Much quieter than any Focus etc than I've had. Better screwed together too. Good Golfs are always strong used sellers. Toyota Aygos have a better perceived image James, so the price gets bumped up.... But as you already know, Toyotas are rarely *really* better than anything else...... The Honda CRV will sell without trying.

Hah, I have a 2008 Picanto that I picked up with 34,000km on the clock back in December. Not a bad little car, but definitely not as fuel economic as I'd hoped for. Gets 16-17km/l, and I was hoping for around 20km/l, given that she's only 1100cc.
21,000 miles on a 2010 car. Wow, what a find you've made there with that Picanto!! Never knew that there was such a thing as after market cruise control though. Like the black wheel trims on the C1, suites that car.
A few years back, I had parking sensors installed my a mobile fitter. He worked for a company who sold and fitted all that sort of stuff, including reversing cameras, cruise control etc. I just can't remember the name of the company. I do recall paying about £150 to get the colour coded rear parking sensors supplied and fitted though, which I thought was pretty good.
Not a bad bet because if my dearest mother likes it then il be putting my interest in it to James, I'm literally waiting on right car for my mother to land in the good hands of James and strike I shall. Then it's a train journey or a nice 3hr drive down which I'll gladly do for that piece of mind

It’s a Northern Ireland plate most likely the car was bought in england new then changed to an NI plate to keep it dateless being from NI this was allowed to be done for no charge years ago for political reasons because of English regs going to certain areas but now it is done with new cars that have been brought over to gain an extra year of not having to do MOT had to do it with my company car that was registered in England and re registered here so I don’t have to mot the car until 4 years old but mainland is 3 years before 1st mot is due
Owatrol Polytrol is brilliant on plastics, impressed with all their products, but never thought of headlights. I'll have to give that a try. I've wondered for a while if their rénovateur gelcoat (marine) would work on lacquer orange peel after using it to refurb a couple of f/glass kayaks, but don't have a car with any peel to try it on.

Funny thing "Fashion". The fashion for instance that turned cute cars into angular uugly beasties. Kia Picanto a case im point. Those early ones are like little Koalas. Daewoo Matiz is another and then replaced by the plug ugly Spark.
Kia Picantos are ok but they look so awful from the outside , the only good thing about that is you can guarantee no boy racer ever owned one lol also not a fan of the MK5 Golf really unreliable and not well made compared to the MK4 that came before it , I had a TDI GT MK4 and it would keep up with a 1.8 turbo Audi TT

Its a oil so it will restore fading but and hide the scratches a bit

Yes, HIL 2459 isn't showing on the DVLA system so I hope James doesn't take it out on the road with that reg !
