Your next video should be about how you got into consulting, what school you went to, what major you studied and how your teachings lead you to your current job. Would love to see that!

Then after that you can offer consulting to anyone in that field.. yes it is that simple. Will anyone be interested? Maybe. Consultant=sell yourself and your service to a company
Could you do a video about how you get the job in consulting? Also, how do young consultants accumulate expertise advice to solve the clients' problems, which are often large businesses?

From what I’ve seen in DC, you basically just need to come from a rich family or school (ie Georgetown)... talent, hustle, intellect, friendliness and courtesy are all tangential Go take a look on LinkedIn and you’ll see how many people with the title “consultant” at Deloitte, Accenture, etc were just basically handed a job. Mommy and daddy matter more than anything
Hello Mrphantom, just in case you still need help. I just got into the consultant field through a program Microsoft has for student. It is called MACH (Microsoft Academic for College Hire). If you are a bachelor or master student, you can apply for it. You must either be 2 or 1 semester away from graduation or has graduated less than a year ago. Feel free to ask me if you have more questions. Good day!!!
I've watched lots of videos from your channel and I realized that i could hear your pronunciation fully, such a brilliant channel for those who're practicing English listening skills and get more knowledge about consultants, thanks very much!

When there is a gray area and manual work needed, Consultant comes into picture. So, it's managing your client's expectations convincingly to get delivery on time and standard quality. Most simple and real explanation. 👍

Heh... well that's not necessarily the case. Consultants have it easy as they are hired to disrupt a business. They can speak freely without consequence. Whereas an employee, say a junior person has a great idea for efficiency but no one will listen to her because 1) she's young and 2) the rest of the workforce is jaded - this happens. Travelling just starts bothering you at some point. You´ll not be home monday-thursday and you´ll sit in a conference room or your hotel room anyway most of the time, so it doesn´t really matter where you are.
@@SooBeautyFull It depends on what office you actully stationed in. For example, people may think that to station in NY or let's say Beijing or London office means your client will be in walking or driving distants since you all own office in the same CBD area, but in the fact is that in huge country like the U.S. or China, you will offen have to fly to different state to look into clients' factory or warehouse etc. Not every office needs to travel a lot, but the U.S. office normally needs to travel a lot. matter in fact MBB offen take 10-20% of their entire project income just to support project team's travel cost, to give there people some best travel expreinse so they don't get bored and depressed.

How do actually get a job as a consultant. BCG only hires one person in Melbourne and not yearly too. Many of the consultants that were at a junior level at BCG said they didn't enter BCG straight out of uni, they were all in similar fields and went to BCG. What do you think are the best ways to get into consulting or how to do it or what are looked for during the hiring process or what traits would be good, what do the employer look for. If you are so and so you should avoid consulting or what are the down side of consulting other than travelling? Is it not for people who like to build constructive things, because you may not see your suggestion implemented after months and years of hard work? How about the downside of the industry. Noticed once a consultant gets senior beyond manager level, it becomes more like a sales role where you are responsible for getting clients etc. Is there any prejudice in the industry? etc etc
These are all really the points that confuse me a lot as well, so plz keep going on this series and explain them all or maybe sth that it couldn't be seen by us, thx👍👍@kchoi
MBB jobs are very difficult to get. I dont think kristina is MBB. Those consultants most likely xfer big4 or midtier (atk kearney, oliver wyman, PIP etc). As you becom more senior (partner in equity) you have a responsiblity to bring business to the firm regardless if you work in consulting or audit or any other PS. mbb is mostly strategy consulting, change consulting is only tangentially related. There are specialised firms (accenture- tech) out there though. She also missed engineering consulting which is a completely different field and more similar to audit than business consulting
@@thepunisher2988 So you're saying not one consultant in the world helped a business streamlined their managerial process to be more effective or efficient? I already know where you stand intellectually.

I clicked on this video only bcoz my best friend is also a consultant. She’s already told me a million times but I still dont fully understand what she does lol. We always joke about it. All I know is that she’s a consultant for this IT company but as far as I know she does not create any apps. Though I wonder if one has to be a software engineer to create apps coz my friend holds an mba and does not have much knowledge on IT. Anyway, thanks for the vid. I have a clearer idea of what she does now. It’s clearly a variety of things! I now understand why she’s so stressed out all the time
fo yi I can explain IT consulting as I’m working as functional consultant in software company. Basically functional consultant work with technical consultant to implement software for client. Consultants need to understand client’s business operations and requirements. While technical consultant install software and make sure it’s integrated properly with other softwares within client’s network. Functional consultant design, test and configure software that suits client’s needs. When I first started, my IT knowledge is limited (but it builds up over time) Hopefully you’ll understand IT consulting better (:

my career path is the exact opposite to yours :P I started out as a strategic business consultant for 2 years. it was a great job/career if you love problem solving and learning about different industries. I got to do a lot of interesting projects with many types of clients. And yes travel is key but sometimes a major stress as well. But after 2 years it just wasn't what I was looking for so now I'm breaking into PR.. Just got my first PR job at an MCN and I'm pretty excited, though scared to my wits as well since I have no prior knowledge or experience in the fields. So fingers crossed! I know getting a license is better, but is it a MUST in order to become a successful one? Thank you :)

Hi Kristina! Thank you for making this video. Do you know where to step the first time for fresh graduates to get into consulting industry, since as far as I know this job usually applied for those with experienced background?
Usually undergrads will intern and seniors will recruit during their final year of college (specifically for the big consulting firms like deloitte, bain, bcg, etcetc)!
This video is not bad. I myself worked as business consultant and now work as a company’s manger that works with consultant. Despite of this profession’s popularity, my take is, consultants are those who can’t make it to top of an industry. It’s not fulfilling because your bosses changes all the time and you are more often treated as outsider by peers. From client perspective, our consultant is a waste of money and time.
Study what actually interests you and build your career around that. If you end up having to go into consulting, you'll actually be interesting to them, rather than a boring "I want to be a consultant"-type. No one worth knowing wants to be a consultant.

Thanks for sharing! I’d like to know if you need a specific degree or any work experiences to work as a consultant? Do humanity and psychological backgrounds play big role in being good consultant ? And what quality most firms or clients look for from a consultant?
Hi! Could you please make a video on different deliverables that are not power ponit tath you have used as a consultant? Thank you!
I was a consultant for years. It was boring and miserable IMO. So funny to see in the comments section so many people excited about it!
Not looking to be a consultant but it does seem exciting because of the travel required! Unless that wasn't the case with you
Travelling just starts bothering you at some point. You´ll not be home monday-thursday and you´ll sit in a conference room or your hotel room anyway most of the time, so it doesn´t really matter where you are.
Nyu257 Hmm, I suppose I would get tired of it! Guess I won’t know unless I have to start traveling a lot.
Why are u even here then??😑
Hi. Can you make a video on personal consulting types instead of organisational consulting only?
This is awesome! Thank you so much for this video! What firm do you work for?
This actually helped me a lot to understand the concept of it Thanks
Very interesting. But could you do the next video on which kind of study should we do to become consultant ( business consulting) ?
Hey K! I’m a marketing professional been involved in marketing partnerships and brand partnerships throughout my workex. I have also worked as a marketing professional in a BIG 3 consultancy firm. I want to do an MBA for learning consulting get a summer internship at any Big 3s. What kind of consulting should I aim for? Am I in the right direction to make this function shift in my career? Are mergers and acquisitions what fall closely to what I’ve been doing?
Ps- would love it if you’d introduce this problem of function shift in one of your future videos.
Thanks! :)
Really helpful!! looking forward for your video on presentation delivery.
Yay!
Love this series! Pls go on!
Thank you for your clear explanation! I learnt a lot from it.
Just a small question, you said that those people in the clip you put at the very beginning were not sure what a consultant actually does. May I ask what was wrong with their understanding about consultants?
Nothing really, they just had no idea what the guy was actually going to do and were saying very vague/general things!
@@bykchoi Oh I got it now. Thanks for explaining. I just discovered your channel lately and I love your videos a lot.
Have a good day ❤
I have 15 years experience as Software developer. How to become independent software consultant. How to market my services. I am well versed in wordpress websites and java and web development in general
It has been 2 years since I watch every "My life as..." and it´s funny beacuse inderectly and without following your career i´m following the same steps first AS mkt manager TO consultant nowadays.
So funny. Thanks a lot beacuse that helped me to get a broad image of the different job positions
Happy week from Spain.
Can you tell me what are major things to study to get a job as a consultant
Is there any prejudice in the industry? etc etc
Thanks for all the questions/topics!
@@dcfatthegoldmansachs6251 do you know about companies that hire physics phds for consulting?
New commenter here. For Thalia, MBB are definitely are on the lookout for Ph.Ds for consulting.
hi! what do you use to vlog? i've always wanted to get into vlogging but i didn't know what equipment/programs i should have
YAS - Consulting is so interesting and I love seeing your consulting life before I recruit for it next semester :) Love you kchoi!!!!
Thanks for watching!!! Good luck with recruiting!
great video! Can’t wait for the good specifics!
Hey kchoi - could you show us examples of the deliverables you create for your clients?
After watching this… I STILL DON’T KNOW WHAT CONSULTING IS!!! Really!
it's basically giving advice to a company or party on how to improve their business or management.
ThePunisher they get paid 🤷♀️
Darth Troublous if you don’t understand then go and take English classes... the video is pretty clear
@@thepunisher2988
So you're saying not one consultant in the world helped a business streamlined their managerial process to be more effective or efficient?
I already know where you stand intellectually.
@@thepunisher2988 Bullshit. You can describe any job in broad or specific terms. She described what consultant was in a couple of sentences and then expanded for more detail and examples. Just as any professional could. It's not complicated. Anyone who blanket-describes consulting as a 'bullshit' job doesn't know what they're talking about. Sorry.
Nice information.
Could you please help me to understand what is ITSM Consultant ?
SUBSCRIBED ♥️
Thanks so much! can you talk about the requirements education wise, salary, and pros and con ( explaining them please) also skills and personality of people who would like to become a consultant. please
I think that you have a thoughtful explanation on what is consulting and what does a consultant do! I'm senior undergraduate student and I'm interested in working as a consultant after I graduate, can you give me any advises for me to do for the interviews and resumes?
I miss your videos:) I like your explanation - finally there is a short video, which I can share with my friends who are interested in consulting:)
Great video! love it, you filled some gaps for me in the consulting world that is so broad! Thanks and hope to see more videos from you ;)
I clicked on this video only bcoz my best friend is also a consultant.
When I first started, my IT knowledge is limited (but it builds up over time)
Hopefully you’ll understand IT consulting better (:
Hello Kchoi, thank you for your great explanation, can you do us a video on how can a consultant understand different businesses and client needs, and adapt to them in order to visualize future implementations or solutions. Thank you.
my career path is the exact opposite to yours :P I started out as a strategic business consultant for 2 years. it was a great job/career if you love problem solving and learning about different industries. You'll be amazing as a business consultant KChoi!
Hahah so interesting because I worked in PR for 3 years and then wanted to switch to consulting!
Thanks for information~ Could you share your experience of finding a job in consulting company? Or could you please give some advice of how to get start to find an internship in this area?
Yeah.. Please do make more of such videos!!!
Hey i really want to know about how to get a carrier as a flexible consultant, i mean some people have to join a big consultant company and do a job from there, so get a job 9a.m-5p.m. And what should i do to prepare myself to be like you, now i am in my last year undergraduate college
Hi K,
What strategies would you recommend to budding consultants to stay current in this field?
Thank you for interesting and useful content! I would like to know more from you on how to start as a consultant, and how to find your first clients (as I understand, you are an independent consultant, right?)
I work for a consultancy! More videos to come in the future :) thanks so much for watching!
Hi Ms. Choi, I don't know if you ever mentioned what was your major in school to become a consultant? My question is do you need to get a license in order to become a consultant? Like for an example, I am an accounting major, but do you need to become a CPA in order to become a consultant? I know getting a license is better, but is it a MUST in order to become a successful one? Thank you :)
hi! love the video. I would like to see future videos of this series. if I may request, could u explain about the difference between consulting company vs market research company and how do they work together (if they do) in the next video? will be looking forward to it! :)
I got a interview as a Advisor for a Ed tech startup company. This video helped me a lot. 🙌🏽
Thats the USP of your video. Thank you for the life like explanation.
What good do you see in a mind which doesn't hold on to an idea and keep thinking it can do everything and focuses on nothing?
Hi Kristina! Thank you for making this video. Do you know where to step the first time for fresh graduates to get into consulting industry, since as far as I know this job usually applied for those with experienced background?
Usually undergrads will intern and seniors will recruit during their final year of college (specifically for the big consulting firms like deloitte, bain, bcg, etcetc)!
kchoi oh okay. Thank you! Can't wait for more video like this or any other career advise/job-related vids. x
I just want to know how to figure out this topic should be written in Chinese? if using other languages, will it be more popular?
What should I study as major if I want to be a consultant in the future?
Study what actually interests you and build your career around that. If you end up having to go into consulting, you'll actually be interesting to them, rather than a boring "I want to be a consultant"-type. No one worth knowing wants to be a consultant.
Good question - I work for a big 4 firm and have shared some insights on my channel if you want to check them out ✨
Hi K.choi!
Thanks for the video! it was really informative. I am currently doing BA Business and management and I was really interested in getting into consulting in future. Do you need any kind of specific experience or qualities to get a job as a consultant?
Hey Kchoi...Thankyou for the insight.i have been offered a role of implementation consultant for implementing product solutions at client environment and is related to health care domain..wanted to know if this profile will involve frequent travelling and what all to expect..this was my first time watching your video and I felt such a great connection watching!!! Already subscribed..
Thanks in advance!!!
Great explanation! Excellent points!
Hey question I’m interested in starting a consultant business for small businesses but I’m also interested in music management as well. How can I do both or put both under the same company name? Or will I run into a problem?
Hello! I like your videos, and I am also very interesting in working for a consulting company. I know about some consulting firms, and to apply for a job in a consulting firm is not easy . If it is possible, would you mind explaining what kind of skills that a consultant should have, and how to apply for a job in a consulting firm? I will really appreciate it!
Can’t wait for the next video!
Did you study business in school? Please make a video on how you got into consulting.
I once have an idea to be an IT auditor (because my bachelor degree is computer) buttt after i attend something like an introduction of what you need to master to become one, i just gave up..LOL A consultant/auditor is one of profession that could be useful even after you retired i guess, just like my dad, he's 68 and still working as an auditor/consultant.. (:
Hi! Any recommendations for someone looking to get started in consulting, but isn’t sure if it’s the right fit or which area of consulting to pursue? Any resources to help figure this out would be really appreciated thanks!
I'm preparing myself to be a consultant, and your video is really helpful for me!
How do u prepare yourself
I'm happy its a series!
Do you recommend some Website where I can found job offer for medical consulting? 😊
Also, what is the most important skill for a consultant? Data related skills? Programming?
