- Lachit Borphukan (24th November, 1622 - 25th April, 1672) was the famous General of the Royal Army of the Ahom Kingdom of Assam who defeated the Mughals and successfully halted the ever expanding ambitions of the Mughals under Aurangzeb. Lachit Borphukan inspired the Assamese soldiers in the Battle of Saraighat fought in 1671, and delivered a crushing and humiliating defeat on the Mughals. The heroic fight of Lachit Borphukan and his army remains one of the most inspiring military feats of resistance in the history of our country.

Well we were taught in our School books about these things.
I was posted in Assam for three years (1964-- 67) but never heard about this Hero Lachit Barphukan.
To day I read an article in Indian Express written by Shri Anup Kumar Datta in detail about the velour of the Senapati. Thanks Mr Datta.
They Say "Ahoms are not great coz they didn't have an empire", we say, Ahoms were great coz they protected dharma and the Purvanchal and Brahmaputra Basin from the invading evil and much larger armies of Mughals, and maintained Dharma in the region.

As a Maratha i was unaware of such a Bravest of the Brave Dharmic Army General from ancient Ahom Kingdom of Bharat thanks to the Jihadi secular intellectual historians cartel but if I recall it correctly the first time i heard about Veer Ahom Senapati Shri Lachit Barphukanji through a National leaders words was in a broadcast of PM Modi's "Mann Ki Baat" in 2015.
Imagine a Warrior General who slaughtered the barbarian Mughals still no LEFTIST written history text books outside of Assam had mentioned the valor he & his men showed on the battlefields,so thanks to that fateful mention of this Brave Dharmic Ahom General from PM Modi & after some online research i read about the greatest battle that took place in ancient North East Bharat where a small yet brave Dharmic Ahom army under the leadership of Veer Lachit Barphukanji defeated the mighty Mughal barbarians!

Highlighting Lachit Borphukan patriotism and mainstreaming it is a great step towards integration of NE and especially Assam with mainland India. The policy of cultural isolation followed by British and ,the policy of many successive governments in NE who fulled Regional sentiments ahead of Nationalism for mere political gain is still the price that NE as a whole is paying in its journey of integration with mainland India.
