By late July, 2014, I had just been released from the Hospital due to a relapse of the Strokes that I had in Feb. 2001. I discovered your channel on you tube, and have been a 'Follower' ever since!:) From June 2002, until May 2014, I was able to live in Dahlonega, GA. It's now Nov. 2020, and I HOPE to be able to leave Trinka Davis Veteran's Village, in Carrollton, GA sometime next year. It's a VA run operation, and they control it. We are still on lockdown. I walk 2 miles, every morning, in the courtyard, at 0200, AM. It's the only time I can do that when I'm not being 'watched'... I was born in Aug. 1965, at North Memorial, in Minneapolis, MN. We moved from Crystal, MN to Wadena, MN in 1975. I entered in the USMC in 1987. Semper Fidelis
I watch all of your videos all the way thru and even watch them more than once. I love your videos about the tent, the farmhouse, northern seclusion and the hobby farm. I watch your shows more than any others.
even though i been watching this channel for a year or 2, i never saw these and i really like knowing how the tent was set up and all the things u all did to it.....great little videos
My kind of dream home, living in the woods next to a body of water.... I grew up in the country side of Philippines. We have a big ancestral house but we have a hut house in the back. Then we have a veggy garden, a big chichen house, a piggery, some carabaos not cows. We have mango tree, pomelo tree, coconuts, and many other tropical trees some are expensive bearing trees. We had horses too in a different land. And there's a river behind the house. It's connected to the longest river in Phillipines. There's bamboos everywhere along the river. We haunted and fished just around the house😁
Joe, Thank you for sharing all this. I have sincerely enjoyed seeing the progress on both the out back cabin and now you tent. Your living the dream man!!! Great work. Should provide years of fun and relaxation for the investment of time and energy.
Been waiting for you to build a nice little deer hunting cabin! Well you almost have that now, but 8 foot side walls would be nice! Love your tent and all your videos! Keep it up, please! Thank you!
i thought it was a cabin when i watched earlier videos .really when you start from scratch with all you have learned a cabin will fit all your needs with so much more comfort and a lot pride from doing it yourself like you did with the tent . also would make some great videos
That walk through turned out great. The new kitchen looks like it will work well. Looks great Joe. It will certainly be interesting how you will design your cabin in the next couple years. Yes, I watch to the end on every video. lol
Building a cabin is great idea. Since your already in the trades like I am. Go for it. I'm close to having my first cabin done and in the planning to build another one. I'll being watching.
I like that tent setup. I would just turn it into the cabin! You have the insides already done. I wish my son and I owned some land that we could do something like that. We have a camp, but on a leased camp ground near a national forest, but our camp is a 69 dodge bus converted and my camper and my brother in laws camper. Great videos, like them very much!
I ALWAYS watch to the very end and then read al the comments the viewers post. I want to add that each and every time you show the cabin, it makes me want to get started on building one of my own so that I can have a "retreat" to go to when I want to think things out, even if it is built on my own property that I live on. I was particularly impressed with the Cedar table in the cabin, It must be coated with some very tough finish to stand up to the everyday use while at the cabin, it appears to NOT having one scratch mark from any usage at all as if it was just placed in the cabin. You are one heck of a handy person with various tools.
If you have the chance I’d build a cabin!! I know you have a ton of sentimental memories in your tent! Being on the lake such a beautiful view... it’s 2020 and building a well insulated cabin with more room, better stove and windows!! It would feel new at first but many more memories could be made.. just depends how fancy and how many bucks$$$$ you want to spend.... definitely be less maintenance if u build new. Something to think about!!!!! Did great job this video and all the other ones! Go for it👍👍👍😎
A cabin would be cool. But I love your tent. You have made some really cool improvements on it. I love the kitchen now. It seems like you have a lot more room. I'm envious, but someday I'll have a tent that's similar in my neck of the woods.
Joe, build it, build it, build it. Such a fan girl. - Love your dad's cabin. - Its my dream house - minus the large closet!!! Build one with a large closet and I'll come live with you. Wow
Thank you Southern Belle. I try and see all the comments that are in the category "I have not responded" Once I leave this page I never see them again.
Joe - I just re-watched this video.......July of 2014........closing statement about time to build a cabin......make 2018 the year it happens meeee boy as that would be such an awesome series of videos to watch. I really enjoy watching your older videos as much as the new ones. Cheers and Merry Christmas.
Joe, I love your videos. I find myself checking regularly to see if you have posted a new one so I finally opened an account and subscribed and it is all because of your videos. I like the "simplicity" of the tent but it would be AWESOME to see a lot of videos of you building another cabin. You give me great ideas. Thanks.
Your tent has served you well and looks amazing with all the updates! I was wondering as you've worked and filmed your pop's new place if you'd get the itch to build your own :))) I was even wondering if some of that wood you've been scraping and drying wouldn't be going in to it. You can't box in amazing talent it will escape. Let the new cabin begin :)))))
ha! the ending is particularly funny watching this video over 4 years later.... p.s. I've been watching your videos for a few months and have been catching up on some from the past.....
It's definitely time to build a cabin I personally would build a cabin around your tent there. But that's just me lol very nice spice rack and shelves they all turned out really nice! EP1K
Joe, you seriously need to start building your cabin. Mostly because I can't wait to see how it turns out. Hopefully you'll give me inspiration for mine. Although, maybe mine will give you inspiration! By this time next year, it should be up. And hopefully I'll fill my channel with vids in the process.
'mornin, Joe;'nuther great reno at the Cabin. Will stay tuned 2 C where your dreams take U & Your Followers. Thanks again 4 sharing with us here,Friend,Stay Safe ! Happy Trails From The Maritimes In Canada ATB Terry " GOD BLESS "
The reno's turned out amazing! If you do decide to build a cabin, maybe you could leave the tent up for your kids to take over. It would make a really nice retreat for them when they have families of their own in the future. I guess that all depends on how much room you have though. Thanks for another great video :)
looking good .👍I've never seen a tent but looks pretty secure to me..& im sure if its thick enough its just as warm as a cabin ..how much do they cost..
Just watch these addition to the tent videos again this morning, looks good. You still use a lot of power tools which is something i notice about the USA, building a builder & carpenter in Australia we see to use a lot more cordless tools. Pretty much the only tools i run from power are things like welders, drop saws & grinders. Even our nail guns are cordless. Is there a reason you do not use more cordless tools?
Love watching your videos, Joe. Really enjoy following along. I just started watching your old videos and love them too! The addition is awesome, fairly new to the channel (past year or so) didn’t realize the tent even had an addition haha.. anyway if u dont mind me asking what are the dimensions of the tent now with the addition? Love the size of it and am in the market to buy/build one myself.. curious at what space im looking at. Thanks joe keep up the great work!
So this is Northern Minnesota I gather, and just wondering why the tent in the first place rather than a solid structure like a cabin? Is this private land that you own, or public land that you lease a cabin site?
Enjoy the Tent can you do a show on the wood burning stove? How much wood does it hold how to clean it out how to regulate the temp whats on the side of it. Also whats are the things hanging over the map.
Yeah, I wondered about the building on question... would you build on the same footprint, off to the side?? You have a beautiful view of the lake there. Now you are so busy where would you ever find the time?
l don't know joe l kinda like the tent and it looks like it will stand the test of time to build a cabin is a big decision and a lot of work and expense but lam sure if you decide to build it it will be a nice one best to you and yours

Joe. i have a question about the canvass. what is the life expectancy and do you have to treat it with anything to keep mold and mildew from attacking it?
I am not sure what the life expectancy is. I am going on 9 years now and I have sprayed the front with a waterproofer and mildew preventer and the top once when I set it up but shortly after that I built the roof structure over it and ran that down the sides. There is air space in there so it stays dry. The only bad spot is where the stove pipe goes through. That area gets wet and the canvas shows the wear of that.
I watch to the end also, I find his videos very interesting & a learning experience that maybe I might someway to improve my cottage an get ideals. I did add on an 8X14 walkin closet which could be used as a childs bedroom if need be, as it has a regular window in it, thus this addition makes me have 1000 sq. ft now. I would love a wrapped porch, for now I have a 14X20 deck (wood) and a concrete pad 8X14 over looking the river. There use to be a cabana or screened in room but we had a 100 yr flood here back in 2007 & it was torn down cause the hot tub floated & busted out a wall & most of the screens were torn out, but I like it open now, the fire pit makes for some good evenings to star gaze.
I am interested in how you insulated your floor for the addition. Looks like the rigid foam is resting on just narrow ledges of wood? Will you have problems with animals burrowing their way through, or taking insulation for their own nests? I loved watching your videos which I just came across today. Where is your cabin located?
I did the addition differently than the tent floor. The tent floor has the narrow ledges of wood and then 4 inch Styrofoam. no mice have ever ate through the plywood floor and they dont do anything with the Styrofoam. The tent addition I put the thin strips of wood and then plywood on top of them and then I caulked around the edges, after that I put in 10 inches of fiberglass insulation batts and then the regular 3/r4 inch plywood floor after that. The tent floor is only 2x6's but the tent addition floor is 2x10's. The tent property is in NE Minnesota it is surrounded on all sides by the Superior National Forest. Thanks Anne. Joe
I am installing such a stove in my cabin much like what you did here. Have you used the oven at all? I am wary of the enclosure getting too hot so I was curious if you had any problems with it?
I have used that oven many many times and have never had a problem. I am not condoning what I did because it is against what they say to do but it has worked very well for me with nothing burning.

Hi joe, I've watched lots of your vids and love them! When you cook meat you always sprinkle on seasoning but can't tell what it is? Is it jus salt and pepper? Thanks Mark.
Wow…8 years ago. My how things have changed Joe! These vids pop up and gotta watch them. Lol!

good job Joe. No wasted effort there. everything necessary and nothing more.
The more things change the more they stay the same ??!!! Lol. Very cool getting caught up with the questions I’ve had !!
I watch all of your videos all the way thru and even watch them more than once. I love your videos about the tent, the farmhouse, northern seclusion and the hobby farm. I watch your shows more than any others.
Joe, I love your getaway man; that is the nicest "tent" I've ever seen. I would never leave that place if I owned it.
Great job Joe 👌
even though i been watching this channel for a year or 2, i never saw these and i really like knowing how the tent was set up and all the things u all did to it.....great little videos
I like the tent!!!
Your dads place is nice but yours is like a boys dream a tent in the woods!!!
That will make you stay young!!
Happy New Year Joe!!!
Instead of building a separate cabin, take out the tent section and add on to the addition. I love the way you have things set up inside and out.
I have a feeling you will REALLY like the new cabin. Shes going to be a beauty.
Very nice joe looks great
Love the spice rack awesome idea
My kind of dream home, living in the woods next to a body of water.... I grew up in the country side of Philippines. We have a big ancestral house but we have a hut house in the back. I would love to see videos showing that. Thank You.
That's a lot of work!!! Nice job
sweet you are good at what you do great job
I love your "tent". We should all be so lucky to have a get away on a lake in the woods.
Luck had nothing to do with it.
Great job on you addition! Gotta love that spice rack!
The kitchen is so organized and the shelves in the bedroom look great.
I like the way Joe redesigned the kitchen, an the spice racks, addition of the bedroom is a big plus, great job Joe did on the design.
Joe, Thank you for sharing all this. I have sincerely enjoyed seeing the progress on both the out back cabin and now you tent. Your living the dream man!!! Great work. Should provide years of fun and relaxation for the investment of time and energy.
+Slim Pickens Thanks Slim. I am up here at the tent now enjoying it. I will post this video in a few days. Thanks again. Joe
Awesome job man.
Been waiting for you to build a nice little deer hunting cabin! Well you almost have that now, but 8 foot side walls would be nice! Love your tent and all your videos! Keep it up, please! Thank you!
+John Ayris It wont be long and the tent will come down and I will be building "The Cabin" Thanks John. Joe
i thought it was a cabin when i watched earlier videos .really when you start from scratch with all you have learned a cabin will fit all your needs with so much more comfort and a lot pride from doing it yourself like you did with the tent . also would make some great videos
Wish I had a place like that. Thanks for sharing and look forward to more videos.
Good job....so cozy and efficient....like to have one just like it....I'd be there every weekend.
That walk through turned out great. The new kitchen looks like it will work well. Looks great Joe. It will certainly be interesting how you will design your cabin in the next couple years. Yes, I watch to the end on every video. lol

Lol, wouldn't think of not watching til the end! Love that tent!
These videos are very soothing. I love being close the lake and country very peaceful! !!
Thank you. I am up at the tent as I type this and will have a video coming up soon. Thanks again. Joe

Very cool!!! I love how you dehydrated all your veggies and canned them. I'll have to do that. Thanks for sharing.

Just watching this for the 4th time. Nothing like a tent video.
Hello Joe, You truly have amazing talent & Knowledge, I can build many things myself, but nothing as awesome as yours come out. great job
Joe, build it, build it, build it. Such a fan girl. - Love your dad's cabin. - Its my dream house - minus the large closet!!! Build one with a large closet and I'll come live with you. Wow
Oh I love this I love the older videos this is July 2021 you may never see this post but much love from Georgia

You know how to get stuff done Joe!
Great job! The tent is a work of art. Cheers
I assume your tent started out as a tent, but it is now what I would call Home. love it, it is beautiful

p.s. I've been watching your videos for a few months and have been catching up on some from the past.....
Looks great Joe, i wouldn't even know where to begin with woodworking stuff (would probably end up in A+E). Also CABIN!!! =D
It's definitely time to build a cabin I personally would build a cabin around your tent there. But that's just me lol very nice spice rack and shelves they all turned out really nice!
EP1K
I'd love to follow along if you decided to. Love the channel.
Like the new look mate, it was always the way it had to go. not changing just fine tunning,
Sweet place you have there, wish I could have one, lol
I know this is an older video but could you explain your electrical and plumbing inside the tent? Love all your videos keep up the good work.
Enjoy your videos.Missing your dog.Hae you built your cabin yet?Hope all isnwell.
Nice job

wow...awsome job!!!
Awesome stuff!
great work!
Nothing like a man with ambition.
Love your tent but would really enjoy seeing you build s cabin there especially a log cabin.
if you started from scratch what would you change basic design and lay out i am considering making a similar shelter thanks for your time
I was wondering how you got to your bedroom with that wall up. It looks better now that you redid everything.
looking good .👍I've never seen a tent but looks pretty secure to me..& im sure if its thick enough its just as warm as a cabin ..how much do they cost..
l love all your projects but cabin sounds like an awesome idea :)
So basically you built a frame over the tent and framed the interior with wood as well? You replaced the pole frame with wood?
love your videos. thanks!
Love watching your videos, Joe. Really enjoy following along. I just started watching your old videos and love them too! very cool set but what size of tent do you have ehhh

How long of a drive is it from your place to the tent.
Yeah, I wondered about the building on question... would you build on the same footprint, off to the side?? You have a beautiful view of the lake there. Now you are so busy where would you ever find the time?
wheres your power coming from and drainage for your cabin?
l don't know joe l kinda like the tent and it looks like it will stand the test of time to build a cabin is a big decision and a lot of work and expense but lam sure if you decide to build it it will be a nice one best to you and yours
This is so nice
Perfect little House
What is the stuff you used on the roof to seal it?
Just started watching your videos, and find them quite interesting. One question, why do you still use tent material for the roofing, walls and such? Is it just simplicity? Or does it keep it classified as a temporary structure for tax purposes? Again just curious, and getting some ideas running through my head.
Joe. i have a question about the canvass. what is the life expectancy and do you have to treat it with anything to keep mold and mildew from attacking it?
I am not sure what the life expectancy is. I am going on 9 years now and I have sprayed the front with a waterproofer and mildew preventer and the top once when I set it up but shortly after that I built the roof structure over it and ran that down the sides. There is air space in there so it stays dry. The only bad spot is where the stove pipe goes through. That area gets wet and the canvas shows the wear of that.
I always watch to the end.
I thought I have a lot of spices, you have me beat!
Lol. Thank you Katherine. Joe
I’m a new subscriber and really like your videos. I do have a question. With your skills why did you build a tent instead of a cabin?
Just have not gotten around to replacing it with a real cabin yet.
Great remodel, before you added the entry way to the edition, did you need to get to it from outside? looks like such a great place just love it!!
Joe
+JoeandZachSurvival Much appreciated! Beautiful spot.
Well your dads cabin is great inspiration to do one for yourself. plus you are the kind of guy that cant sit idle.
Thank you for that info. I am building my cabin in southeast Oklahoma and have been on it for just over one year. (Weekend work as I live in Dallas). It should be complete by this fall except for the solar panel installation. Once we have that in, we plan on making a full build video to post. Hope that you will see it and give feedback on our work. Thanks again for all of your effort to share your experiences.
YES! Definitely a cabin.
Hi joe, I've watched lots of your vids and love them! When you cook meat you always sprinkle on seasoning but can't tell what it is? Is it jus salt and pepper? Thanks Mark.
Nice place
Looks great, super duper man cave!
that tent is mint.
