After Chick's passing, Gambale, Marienthal, Patitucci & Weckl had lamented that they'd never play together again as the Elektric Band but had hoped to find a way to perform together again in some capacity. Well, they managed to make it happen ! Add to that the incomparable Steve Gadd, as well as stellar contributions from Jay Oliver, Michael Silverman and Rob Silverman. They did Chick proud with this amazing performance ! Top notch audio and video production, as well. Cool to see Chick's Yamaha KX-5 !!! Added to favorites !!!
Just Wow...That was Chick. I was Blessed to meet Chick, Dave, and John a few months after I graduated from college in '89. The Akoustic Band came to Oberlin and I got to watch and learn, 10 feet away from Dave Weckl! They opened with Spain! Amazing set! Afterwards, they did an in person QnA and each of them were warm, gracious, patient, and kind with their fans. I know people say, "You don't wanna meet your heroes...", but I'm so Thankful Chick, Dave, John definitely were not like that at all. God Bless you and Thank you, Chick. You Live Forever in our Hearts!
This is simply incredible. The drumming alone is worth the price of admission, but the overall is definitely an amazing tribute to Chick. The writing, production, energy (in separate spaces) and tightness are indicative of these stellar musicians. What a treat! I saw the Electric Band (after decades) in NYC at the Blue Note during Chick's 75th B'Day - 75 day run (remarkable in itself). They were all brilliant, of course. The thing that struck me most about those five players was their uncanny time - I swear they could have started a tune, left the building and walked around the block, and would have returned in perfect synch. As for The Alchemist - Thank you Jay, Dave, Steve, Rob, John, Eric, Frank and Michael for a great ride!
When you have these many luminaries paying tribute, you know you’ve done something right! Chic, thank you for leaving us a legacy of timeless classics.
This truly makes me miss Chick Corea all over again. It was as if he was still there. It was tight from every musician involved as well as the video. Goosebumps!!!😃
No words, just 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻..... So glad that Jay and Dave are working together again. They proved their synergy on Masterplan, and anything they touch turns to gold for our ears! Amazing editing 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.....
That really was a beautiful tribute to Chick Corea.Whenever I see Steve Gadd behind a kit..I always feel everything is right with the world.Congratulations and thanks to all the inspiring musicians involved 🐝🌈💫
Chick was Unique, Inventive, Kind, and Funny while performing. I saw his show in Miami at The Lincoln Theatre 1991 with The Electric Band. One of the tunes they played named “One Of Us Is Over 40” takes me back at the young age of the performers. Of course it was Chick’s Tune 🎹 🎷 🎸🥁🥁bass 🎸⚡️⚡️
Absolutely incredible. That is a true Masterpiece. A true tribute to the Master Chick Corea. Takes me back to some of my most important memories in my life as a drummer - and that was when I listened to the the "Master Plan" recording for the first time ever at the age of 8. I LOVE THIS! Thanks so much for sharing it with all of us 🙏
Yes...powerful, grace, intergenerational...chick would love this video...so nice Weckl and Gadd again together...this track is a masterpiece....applause to the mixing engineer
Saw chick electric band on first tour small venue Baltimore....all new young superstars... you know the crew... chick was like a kid in a candy shop.....show devastated....really did
As a drummer, love all three of these guys. But we have to acknowledge that Jay Oliver is one of the very best jazz fusion composers that genre has ever seen. He has a good catalog especially with Weckl but I'd love to see more. It takes a genius to write such beautiful fusion hooks.
Agree, too. Had a pleasure to meet him at a backstage after Dayton gig, was a Glenn Frey Tour. Dear Craig and Jon, you have to believe me, Jay wrote arrangements for every single instrument, music is CCM with strong backing vocals + Glen's lead. I was crying like a baby with my wife, who were on my shoulder all the time....It means that Jay did it for lovely late Glenn from the bottom of his heart. Unfortunatelly, there are no vids from that Frey's solo era. Jay is the one!
RIP, an excellent guy to honor. I was saddened by his death. Spain would be excellent, too. I'll have to go look for it. I really loved the Corea/Hiromi concerts. For anyone who hasn't seen them do some 'dueling' pianos, go take a look/see, it is absolutely first class, as is this. I think Chic would have definitely loved this, but these guys could tell you FARRR better than I could. :-) Pile-O-Talent on that stage. And now another disc I have to go buy! YT recommendations seems to be running through a Wekl list...keep em comin! Awesome post work too, guys, makes the ole high cost carefully chosen sound system really sing.
Grande Chic, grande este Tributo...al nivel que se lo merece... Chic Corea...con quién aprendí a escuchar música,así como con Vytas Brenner #themusicistheanswer
