    Pollock was an excellent bowler and most economical bowler after F.De Villiers . I remember this series . Pak hosted for 50 yrs of independent and after 1996 world cup two top teams of world in those time SA and SL first time met here and SA defeated them twice in series including final . Best SA team they had during that time

    • @sainandanramakrishnan4812
      @sainandanramakrishnan4812 7 лет назад +7

      Yes, SA had defeated Sri Lanka ( one of the top 4 ODI teams at that time ) in the WILLS quadrangular tournament final which included Pakistan ( SA's fierce rival at that time gunning for the 2nd position in world cricket ) and a slowly declining West Indies in 1997.
      Then, in February of 1998, SA had defeated Pakistan in a tri series final held in South Africa which also included Sri Lanka.
      In addition to that of course was the nail biting 1-0 test series victory over Pakistan in Pakistan ( a rare and extraordinary feat for any country at that time ), which was the cherry on the cake.

    • @dibag7443
      @dibag7443 7 лет назад +3

      Sainandan Ramakrishnan Yes in that tri series SA as usually never lost a single match. First final was rain affected but in second final Pak made just 120 around n SA restrained opening overseas n then won by 9 wickets. Also in 98 I think around fall autumn season of us SA whitewashed WI 5-0 in test series and 6-1 in ODI.. Took the revenge of 96 quarter final match badly .

    • @dibag7443
      @dibag7443 7 лет назад +5

      Kundan Kumar Lara was one reason, SA's world cup fate was another reason.
      But SA still was chasing perfectly but at the end lost patience . To score quickly lost some regular wickets. That turned the match.
      Another thing SA missed two strike bowlers Donald and De Villiers in that match

    What a clean action Shaun Pollock had. Also he scored tad above Glenn McGrath in gentlemanship.

    Watched it live. Afridi was clean bowled by Pollock when Pak score was 10. Thereafter, it was a hell of match with Inzy and Moin forging an important partnership followed by Azhar Mahmood's late inning blitz to see Pak almost through. Before that Wasim Akram clean bowled Symcox, Fennie Devilliers and Allen Donald with characteristic swinging yorker. All an all, a great match to watch.

    The way Ijaz played looks suicidal after two wickets loss pointing to a fixed deal. Just assumption perhaps. Amazing both the teams in those years.
