I definitely feel like stiletto knives were intended to be used by the rough street kids of the early new york city days, as an easy to carry, quick to deploy, knife that one can use in a pinch. Maybe a kid gang member was playing pool and got cornered by 2 or 3 rival gang members and whipped out a 10””, sharp as fuck, stiletto and it created enough space for him to squeeze out of that situation! Or he was walking through a bad neighborhood and the local big fuck bully threatened to knock him out if he didn’t hand over his wallet, but quickly backed the fuck off after getting a quick, and deep stab in the lung. To say stiletto knives are useless is just silly. Is it a rambo knife that can peel nazi scalps off ?? not really, but its a mighty good thing to have in your coat pocket when your about to be rushed by a guy! The blade is extremely pointy, and sharp as hell, and can easily be stabbed super deep into someone like butter! And its not like movies just made the stiletto knife popular out of NOWHERE. These knives were popular in movies BECAUSE THATS WHAT STREET PEOPLE USED!! Its the DEFINITION of a street gang type of weapon! Easily concealed, quick to deploy, And on top of all that, it just looks sooooooo SICK! Who doesn’t think stilettos look sick??????? And come on, lets face it, who are we kiddin? nowadays, nobody is facing any threat like street gangs did in the old school city days! We’re way more civilized in that sense. In reality, we want to carry a knife because they are cool. Do we REALLY need them? haha no, but we try at ANNNNNY chance we can, to use a knife because we’re dying to fucking use it. And ya ya ya, we do have threats nowadays but they’re basically only mass shootings and nobody is gonna dare use a knife on a psychopathic mass shooter with a big assault rifle! PLEASE! Hahah so lets stop talking this “is it practical?” bullshit, and just get a knife you like the look of, and start twiddlin your thumbs while waiting for an excuse to use the fuggin thing like the rest of us!!!
They were not originaly designed as a novilty it was designed for what a knife is meant to do defend one self or attack another human or animal the design was made for an effective stabbing (sticking) motion not to cut wood or whatever else you think its meant for it is a purly agressor weapon

I have a stiletto by tiger and its very well built. 1045 surgical steel blade. No blade play at all. I carry it with me everywhere. It constantly comes in handy for a variety of things like cutting tape on boxes at work, opening bags of coal for the coal stove, cutting a variety of textures from string to plastic. I cut cardboard with mine and feild dressed a dear with no problems. And I think they were designed for self defense when they came out so many years ago. I do agree , other knives are stronger today! But the old stiletto can still be a useful EDC.
Man you're wrong as fuck in one area.... stilletos aren't meant for cutting glass breaking or any camp situation which is true and that's what many people want a knife for....stilettos are meant strictly for stabbing and that's it that's why the point is so sharp they're designed to slip between ribs and hit vital organs so they aren't just for looks man they're for defense too
michael mccauley 100% right I actually thought you were me, your name is similar. "They're a toy, a novelty" This guy knows nothing, They're stabbing knives. They double they're length in half a second and even the smaller, 9 and 11" ones are plenty long enough to slip between a rib and puncture a vital organ
They were made from the start as a self defense blade hence the super sharp point the extra thin blade for stabing and also the automatic opening NOT ment for novelty
Especially the Italian stilleto which was made for and by greasball Italians back then. I am Italian and they even taught me in school, they are for stabbing
idk I gotta say if you are willing to shell out a good amount of money you can get really good quality ones that are great for heavy use its just the fact that people usually have the cheap ones that break easily.
Stiletto switchblades are useful because you can open them with one hand. For fighting of course they're strictly kid-stuff. You cannot parry with one and not expect to be cut or break the blade. They are illegal because historically they are used as weapons of assassination. They're easily concealed and when the victim is in the right position, watching a movie in a crowded theater for example, the assassin snaps it open and in one thrust stabs the victim through the throat, back, chest or stomach. Of course you can do the same thing with many spring assisted knives but these have the murderous tradition.
Do you mean President of the United States or President of Italy? What has that got to do with the price of switchblade knives? You folks inject politics into everything.
You may be abel to open them with one hand, but the same can be done with wave knives. The wave catches on to your pocket, opening the blade so that it is open by the time that you take it out of your pocket. For some reason these are perfectly legal. Not that I'm complaining but, I just see legislative hypocrisy/ ignorance.
mark h.contento Blame it on the movies. Many people are inspired to use Italian stiletto switchblades for fighting because they see it in the movies. Probably the most common knife used to murder people today is a serrated butcher knife from a kitchen carving block, but they're not sexy and they're even more frequently used for perfectly normal purposes. It's like nun-chucks. They're just a couple of wood rods tied together but when you see Bruce Lee use them they become this dangerous weapon that has to be outlawed. If you're not trained to use nun-chucks the person most likely to be injured is yourself. All these things are outlawed for their sex appeal, not because they're more dangerous than anything else kids can get their hands on.
It depends what you're dealing with. If you're up against someone with a Bowie knife or any good size hunting knife they'll cut your hand off if you stick a stiletto at them. If you know what you're doing you might be able to kill or incapacitate an unarmed rapist with one but if he's bigger than you and stronger than you he's more apt to wrestle the stiletto away and use it on you. Even as you're suggesting using it, that's stealth homicide, not really self defense. Historically the stiletto is a murder weapon against an unsuspecting victim. As such these switchblades are very effective because they're easily concealed safely and only become lethal when the safety is released and the button is pushed. The sound of a switchblade also has the effect on many people of freezing them in their tracks. For self defense ie going into a fight I would not prefer a stiletto or a balisong knife. I would want either a sword cane or a Bowie knife depending on the environment. These larger weapons allow me to keep my adversary at a distance inflicting maximum damage without allowing his physical strength to come into play, in fact depleting it each time I strike him.
Okay I think I get what he means when he says they aren't practical. I have a Italian stiletto and they aren't practical in the sense of a cutter. They're not slicers really at all, great stabbers tho. The stiletto blade shape isn't practical for typical knife use. The Italian stiletto switchblade overall isn't as delicate as he says. I've cut cardboard with these, stabbed random things. It didn't fall apart but these do get a good bit of all around blade play but I really don't feel the lock would close on you (the swivel bolster lock at least, can't speak for the swinguard switchblade) They are really meant for stabbing. But they do it well. The switchblade isn't a flower knife tho, a real Italian one should hold up fine.
They were shoved down our throats in all those gang movies back in the days, especially in the 80's and 70's. You'd think they would serve as a formidable weapon. But truthfully, that isn't the case. And that's tough to swallow since their such a legendary switchblade.
Do you not realize the huge number of people who have been killed by stilettos??? The mafia didn't carry these for nothing and they wearnt like the flimsy chicom stilettos of today. It was designed from the very beginning as a weapon and honestly that's all they are good for. Yes Hollywood has exaggerated things, but that's Hollywood. Your statement is untrue sir.
Thrasher Ofdeath actually the mafia used their guns not their knives. And I don't deny the mafia killed people but their main target was other mafia members not civilians. And even then I'm fairly sure their main preferred weapon was the gun not the knife. And if we we want to talk about banning stiletto knives that's fine. But we should not ban something like switchblades. Not all stilettos are switchblades and not all switchblades are stilettos. The blade is what's dangerous not the method of opening. Also I would like to see some statistics on the death from stilettos and the knives the mafia used. There is also a big problem with Hollywood exaggerations because that did lead to a switchblade ban. Before the movie west side story came out all attempts to create a switchblade ban had failed. A year after it came out they were banned from interstate commerce. And even if the mafia used stilettos it wouldn't make things any less dangerous for the mobsters they killed. Also one last thing switchblades are legal in 40 states and knife crime is virtually unaffected www.knife-expert.com/swbl-leg.txt This site has the facts and history of the ban and the lies surrounding switchblades
Talking shit not knowing anything about it.. For few seconds I saw a guy that got stabbed to stomach like 3 times by a 11 inch stiletto on one of our feasts-tradition days or w/e its called in english.. Even tho medics got to him fairly quickly he died shortly before the ambulance got into the hospital.. The guy that did it got the upper limit for a murder as blood tests said he wasnt that much drunk as he was saying so we wont see him for a looong time.. If you said that this isnt a formidable combat weapon I would agree, however it qualifies as a standard weapon capable of killing just fine, just as a kitchet knife or even a dumb hammer
I think Auto Stilettos are quite under rated as utilitarian tools. The thin blade stock coupled along with a full height grind make for excellent slicers, a thin blade allows for little friction in grippy mediums to cut and yeah there's also the cool factor lol. I have a no-name italian stiletto that was made in the 40's and yeah I'm not going to break down a car into little bits and pieces but how often does one do that? The locking mechanism's are strong whether it's a lockback or
A proper stiletto blade has 4 main qualities for it's main purpose, killing a person as quickly and cleanly as possible. I.e Assassination. 1. A fast, swift display of the blade. 2. Two Indents on the top of the blade, like with a bayonet. They are "blood drains", which means you don't get the blade stuck in the targets body. 3. The back of the blade is flat, so that you can part the ribs easily. 4. The blade is long and narrow, so it can be plunged deep easily reaching the vital organs. Most stilettos come blunt, you can hone them so they can be used to slit throats. Gruesome stuff.
The fact you believe the "blood grove" myth makes me highly question your knowadge on the subject. Those are called fullers and they're intended to strategically remove material in order to lighten the blade without compromising it's integrity or balance.
They're great for small tasks, and that fine point makes them really great for precision tasks, provided your blade is very sharp. I have one that is razor sharp, and I use it like an exacto knife! 😀
They work for small jobs around the house, but I don't use them at work. I do have one that is sturdy enough it would do it just fine, but it was expensive and has a nice mirror polished blade and I want to keep it nice!
Stiletto is practically unbeatable in real Knife Dueling, because it directly reconnects with point-edge offensive strategy of modern sword combat. It is basically a pocket Rapier. For any other purpose, get a proper dagger.
Uhmm... WHAT?! What kind of cheap 'Lettos have you been buying? Maybe cheap chinese ones, but these knives were meant as battle daggers that were easily concealable. One of my good friends has a real-Italian stiletto that has lasted him for years, even a few self-defense situations and countless boxes. They're primarily for parrying and stabbing.
Nice knives..history lesson for all who dont know.Auto Knives were made way back 100's of years ago Got popular after civil war where many soldiers only had one arm so knive and fork combo blade was made.help them eat their dinner in the field
Awesome ! I had one in 1999 a cop handcuffed me when I was holding it for "safety" incase someone does do something really bad to me , my one was a blue color with really cool patterns on it , my son grabbed it and put it in the microwave for 1 hour and it somehow melted and when I touched it , it was all flimsy and easy to move so we had to put it in the bin.
I agree with you. My stiletto is basically a really cool letter opener. I might cut cellophane wrap off boxes with it. It's main function to me is it's like owning a piece of Hollywood. A neat little prop that's fun to play with.
Hm.I have Mikov and its usefull but for simple things like open a box or go thru an apple because it have wider blade I used it also for some heavier stuff.but other then light stuf I don see a practical use of stiletto assuming u are serial stabber ....
No even if it when off in your pocket the springs on a switchblade aren't as strong as you would think. It would open but stop once fabric and your leg got in the way, It wouldn't slice through you. Plus its unlikely to set off without a direct pressure on the button which never happened to me with a switchblade in my pocket.
I know the typical "S" guard would fail if you tried to slice with it because of the direction the locking pin pushes on the spine. But, doesn't the swing guard lock back the same way a pocket knife does? Hence, you could apply more pressure to slice?
Apart from the assassination qualities of them, small duty is fine. Those blades can cut or whatever else but even if they are dull, they definately will still stab. I would own and carry these for just how beautiful they look. Also a fun knife. It is illegal in Canada so... I just carry an assisted one, pretty much the exact thing.
I have a couple AKC Bill DeShiv Leverlettos that are really nice knives. One is the standard length which is 7 3/4" and the 9" Leverletto plus. They have 440c heat treated blades that take and hold an edge pretty well and make a nice lightduty EDC. I also have a 9 1/2" fancy leverlock that works well for light EDC even though it is 420 stainless. The blade is a bit wider and hollow ground and heat treated and takes an edge as well as can be expected of 420. I also have an AGA Campolin 9" Francese which is a push button stilletto that is of french design. Its very well made but I'm not sure about edge holding yet as I just got it. It's a rather thin flat ground blade and 420 so I'm not expecting much but I'll know in time. I prefer Leverlocks because I sometimes use a knife left handed and they work equally well with either hand, while the button opening knives don't work as well when you have to manipulate the safety with your left hand.
I want one. I used to own a knockoff of a cold steel Tri-light. I used it for work. Also carried it when I had over 100 usd on me in cash. It was a good knife.
Time he pulls out a wave blade with a ring grip and gets it in his hand he'll be dead. Plus those just look messed up like your looking for a problem. Get a pocket knife with a thumb stud or with part of the blade cut out like spyderco knives. They can be deployed as fast as a switch blade and from out of pocket to armed time is like 2 seconds flat.
stilletto is practical ! talking by my expirience. is practical only for stabbing and for nothing else (and ofcourse for leather opening if you please :) ) ... but it is effective for purpose what is maked for !!! and is qite a special training for "stilletto fighting" if you know that ...anyway , is good knife for ick stabbing and last option street (if you a this kinda knifes) in plentyness of mutch effitiant knives on market . this was be a my first choise becouse emmotionaly conection from my childhood (only for that) otherwise I will take a "cold steel" -"kobun" for every day carry, like I do but never ever left my trustfull Franc Beltrame stilletto ! like you know ,dear friend, even with old BIC pencil you can make a hard stubbing on oponent beter then "fancy" tactical pen (what is in some parts on world forbiden like stillettos of any kind ,with or whitout spring assistence and beter quality then this in video!) ... however its only my opinion :)
Im not trying to be a know it all but the early autos were mostly utility in nature and had a purpose other than a novelty. The novelty Knife came way later.
I would ask... how about the manual style stilettos with the pin locks? It's basically a backlock with extra engagement, right? The thin narrow blade is obviously not going to be as good a cutter as a buck110 or spyderco but what do you think of those? I ask as I recently found one I had as a kid and have been using it around the house. It needed a lot of sharpening but for light stuff it seems ok so far...
None of these have a lock as strong as the cold steel ti lite stiletto, that can hold over a hundred pounds, and don't take my word for it the company proves it in test as well as other people. People who don't think that the stiletto is useful say that because they bought cheap and/or crappy ones and don't actually own a quality stiletto. Buy yeah these definitely look nice, but if you want a REAL fighting stiletto buy a ti lite.
They're good for self-protection when you pop one out it can stop a situation cuz people fear them I agree it is not a workhorse you should always carry a second blade for a workhorse but they are a personal protection item
Where do you get these stilettos? They are a beauty and i have a cheap milano but im big into collecting knives. Thanks for your videos man! Keep em' coming especially with the new pet!:-)
The Cold Steel Ti Lite fixes most of these problems you have mentioned. It's got a pocket catch, no mechanism, which makes it legal in most places. It also has their Leaf Spring lock, which is basically a liner lock on meth. I could hang my 160 lb ass on a tree with that thing and it would be fine. It's opening is believe it or not faster than a switchblade. It also has AUS-8A steel which, for stilletos, is excellent. It is (for the 4 in blade version in zytel) $40 on Amazon, which is a great price. It also has zero blade play, even after months of vigorous carry and use. I carry it all the time. I hope you consider it.
That is a vintage rizzuto milano. Made in the 60's - 80's in Japan, mostly imported for the tourist trade in Mexico. Very rare to find in good condition because they were pretty cheaply made.
I have two 13" Italian stilettos. One with a black handle and the other natural bone..Along with other smaller Italian stilettos. I only carry the 13" ones when I wear my carpenter jeans. (I alternate their carry.,I don't carry both) The pants have a side pocket on the right side used to hold a ruler(?) but work great for the 13" stiletto.. I have tried carrying my smaller stilettos but have had them pop open while in my pocket.(Not nice) My everyday carry is a Kershaw 7150 with a pocket clip..But when I wear the carpenter pants I carry both the Kershaw 7150 and one of the 13" Stilletos...But the majority of the time its the Kershaw 7150 and my Glock 43 9mm with two extra magazines.(I live in the great state of South Carolina where its legal to carry switchblades and we are also a concealed carry state)
Have the one, front center. You think that is wobbly and too much play? Mine is tight and sharp, I do have the kriss blade however. The Germans used them in ww2 and they are for killing (stabbing) plain and simple.
I'm not sure you understand the purpose and employment of the classic stiletto. No, they are NOT meant for cutting boxes, or used as a pry-bar and such - so you got that right. However, consider this...the KEY to near instant incapacitation of humans is a DEEP (or completely through) puncture to the chest. A thousand years ago, when edged weapons were the ONLY type of weapon commonly carried for "EDC," combatants realized that slashing and hacking weapons and techniques were inferior to direct penetration in terms of economy of motion, force, and weapons employment. Slashing and hacking motions are easily blocked and evaded, and while they may produce serious LOOKING wounds, such wounds were seldom an "instant stop." However, one look at ARROWS - even short crossbow bolts with small, bodkin heads reveals an amazing ability to deliver as close as possible to a "one shot stop" by shooting a slender bolt deeply into or through a human torso. The resultant wound looks unimpressive on the surface, yet is deadly indeed. A deep stab will almost certainly deflate a lung - one on either side deflates both - that's an INSTANT put down with rapid death. A deep stab centerline gets the heart, aorta, descending/ascending aorta and inferior vena cava - instant death or near instant incapacitation! A direct stabbing motion is difficult to block and can more easily pass between gaps in armor - very difficult to block or evade. So the edged weapons evolved from hacking styles to longer, thinner, piercing styles that gave the user much broader angles of attack with a light, lively, long, slender blade. When the concept of "folding" blades arrived, it didn't take long for someone to want a foldable stiletto - and there it is. The stiletto was not, and is not a "toy" nor is it too lightly constructed for its INTENDED purpose which is to deliver rapid, deep, puncture wounds into the human torso or skull - another task at which it excels. THAT is the reason the blade is so narrow, long and pointed. Construction is plenty strong for WEAPON meant only for fighting and killing - not chopping tree limbs. A 4" blade is on the short side for use against humans - which is why most States have laws limiting knife blades to less than 4"! A 6" blade stiletto is more suitable for defense or attack. The reason most presume the folding stiletto to be just a novelty item is because they don't have a huge need to go around stabbing people and much like swords, stilettos have only ONE purpose - just like back in medieval Italy where the fixed blade stiletto had ONE purpose.
what about otf blades? I had one when I was a kid but it got confiscated by my teacher. I remember it having pretty solid lockup. I haven't been able to find an otf switchblade other than a handful of really ugly ones in a long time.
Stiletto knives were originally made by the French to kill wounded soldiers on the battlefield. They lifted up the dying (or too wounded, or an enemy) soldier's arm, and inserted a long, thin blade under his armpit, through the ribs, and stopped his heart. A skilled dispatcher could do 100 men in an hour. As for the origin of automatics, I've Read of a few chinese weapons hundreds of years ago that would spring into place, but the modern folding stiletto Im not sure, Ive seen examples over 100 years old.
I have a reail Italian made stellto thats over 150 years old and its far from crap it won't cut through wood but if it is used what is was intended for it would be great i carry it every day for self defense if i need it and its one heack of a knife
Can anyone answer my knife question, my question is this I live in Colorado and I was wanting to buy a stiletto knife from amazon but I noticed that the laws in Colorado make it illegal to carry it or possess one, my question is if I bought one and carried it in my pocket, or even just kept it at home would I get in trouble? I mean is this a law that is enforced or not?
State by state switchblade laws vary. Go to your favorite search engine and bring up switchblade laws etc. BTW if it's a law in your area then it's enforceable. Don't be stupid and challenge the laws about switchblades as you will be exposing yourself with up to FIVE years in the slammer and/or $2000.00 in fines.
I carry a stiletto (Frank B./INOX) stamping on the blade. Opens up to thirteen inches total length. The button release has never 'false opened' when carried. Carried since Vietnam, where I acquired it. The 'one-handed' deployment of the blade is a plus. I've been in combat, folks, so let us not talk about the 'what if' scenario. I'll deploy 'my blade', if, and when the need arises..and the perp will not know of the knife until the last moment. Paranoid? Decide for yourself.
I own the blonde horn 13" swinguard, nice one. Always knocked out when I see HOW expensive these are in the U.S.! Here in Europe you can order a 13" swinguard for 80€/90USD but US mongers offer these for not less than 250 USD... So overprized, considering the POOR quality control of Frank B. and Campolin knives... Some specimen are pretty fairly made, some unreliable and cheap even if it´s the same type of switchblade. I would not recommend to buy one for more than 80 USD. 300 USD retail implicates a good knife but folks, better get a microtech instead or something. SO superior to the italian switchers. Anyway, I love the shape and action...and their back-street feeling... Got 20 of them, theyre so cheap here, but that´s the only reason I bought so many over the years. I like the plastic shiny colors
Your right the 13" swinguards are crazy expensive here, but you can find 9" for about 75.00 give or take. Your right though for the cost of the Italian knives you can buy some nice modern flickknives with good steel for even less money. I think a lot of folks like to collect them and are not carrying them. I find the Leverlettos are nice and use decent blade steel that holds a nice edge and can actually be a useful knife. I just built a leverlock stiletto from a kit that came out nice. 50.00 for the kit and 8.00 for a piece of kirinite for the grips. A little bit of time and effort with sandpaper and it came out nice. Even did some nice filework on the spring. Now my wife wants me to build one for her. I just pulled apart a Bill DeShivs leverletto that had cracked grips and going to put that one together for her.
The switch blade is designed for one thing fighting. Stiletto is a blade design not a knife, there are fixed blade stilettos, there are switch blades with clip point blades.
I really like the otf autos, since they are so much fun to play with, but they really aren't very strong as far as stabbing something goes. The mechanism just isn't suited for that. The folding types are better, I suppose. Still, I wish someone would make one with a carbon steel blade instead of stainless steel, stainless sucks imo.
Not very practical as a utility type pocket knife, they were made for stabbing, hence the long narrow blade. Thats part of the reason why they're illegal most places, because they're made for fighting and have no "practical"use.
I think its practical and fun to have a variety of knives to have. Different situations and different dress codes will call for different knives. Jeans->CS lawman/ OKC Utilitac II...Basketball shorts->Subcom clipped to waistband...Dinner jacket->slim gentleman's knife, fixed or folding
attila350 i have a custom made one that is meant to fit into my custom suit ( it has a secret pocket in the sleeve that opens when i pull hard on it and with practice i can pull out the knife in under 1 second
these things are meant for stabbing in self defence not chopping wood...they're practical only for their intended purpose

Exactly. This is not a regular edc blade. Also don't buy cheap chicom stilettos, spend money to get a quality one. Nothing's free.
I bought a real stellto mad in Italy over 150 years ago and i love it
@@gta_boss026 That's amazing! 😀 I just bought a brand new Frank Beltrame Italian stiletto today, and it is one beautiful knife! 🤤

Man you're wrong as fuck in one area.... stilletos aren't meant for cutting glass breaking or any camp situation which is true and that's what many people want a knife for....stilettos are meant strictly for stabbing and that's it that's why the point is so sharp they're designed to slip between ribs and hit vital organs so they aren't just for looks man they're for defense too
michael mccauley
100% right
I actually thought you were me, your name is similar. "They're a toy, a novelty" This guy knows nothing, They're stabbing knives. They double they're length in half a second and even the smaller, 9 and 11" ones are plenty long enough to slip between a rib and puncture a vital organ
Correct dear gentlemen !
They were made from the start as a self defense blade hence the super sharp point the extra thin blade for stabing and also the automatic opening NOT ment for novelty
Especially the Italian stilleto which was made for and by greasball Italians back then. I am Italian and they even taught me in school, they are for stabbing
that's right. like the Fairbairn & Sykes dagger, it's made for stabbing
idk I gotta say if you are willing to shell out a good amount of money you can get really good quality ones that are great for heavy use its just the fact that people usually have the cheap ones that break easily.
Didn't know a blade for cutting things is a "toy"
Patrick King
But wouldn't a stiletto be good for self defense? Snap and stab. The thinnes allows you to go between the ribs.
It didn't fall apart but these do get a good bit of all around blade play but I really don't feel the lock would close on you (the swivel bolster lock at least, can't speak for the swinguard switchblade)
They are really meant for stabbing. But they do it well. The switchblade isn't a flower knife tho, a real Italian one should hold up fine.
Pick the pepperoni right off at a pizza! 🍕👍
@@trickydick991 a year late but I gotta say I love your comment
They are made as cheap pocket knives meant to look nice, the have severe problems with the design blade play has to occur locks are very weak etc.
Also one last thing switchblades are legal in 40 states and knife crime is virtually unaffected
www.knife-expert.com/swbl-leg.txt
This site has the facts and history of the ban and the lies surrounding switchblades
I carry a stiletto and this bitch is like guaranteed access to the human body . What are you talking about?
The locking mechanism's are strong whether it's a lockback or
Right, remember though, I wam talking about Stiletto Switchblades only. The Italian sytyle swinguard or bolster lock.
5. Cutting the roast beast at the who feast
Blood grooves don't do that. They just lighten the blade while making it more stable.
The fact you believe the "blood grove" myth makes me highly question your knowadge on the subject. Those are called fullers and they're intended to strategically remove material in order to lighten the blade without compromising it's integrity or balance.
Allan Snackbar the auts is strong with this one
Cryptid Productions THANK YOU!... I saw that comment and wanted to make sure that human never reproduces in it's life.
They're great for small tasks, and that fine point makes them really great for precision tasks, provided your blade is very sharp. I have one that is razor sharp, and I use it like an exacto knife! 😀
I agree!
I mean, I'm sure they aren't practical when they're bought from the dollar store.
I wonder if those switchblade were cheap back in the days?
Actually used one from a gas station in self defense a couple years back… my stiletto and I are still around too! This video was a joke.
Ive used mine for all kinds of stuff. After 20 years i still use it in perfect working order.
nice
Where did you get the black swinguard
They work for small jobs around the house, but I don't use them at work. I do have one that is sturdy enough it would do it just fine, but it was expensive and has a nice mirror polished blade and I want to keep it nice!
They may not be practical but the cool matter is over the top. Always loved them.
Stiletto is practically unbeatable in real Knife Dueling, because it directly reconnects with point-edge offensive strategy of modern sword combat. It is basically a pocket Rapier. For any other purpose, get a proper dagger.
This is the italian stiletto also named "coltello a scatto" used with unique purpose of knife fight. It's absolutely not french.
where did you get the black swinguard please respond
We're can I buy an Italian staletto swishblade for my colection .
where can you get 1
There are lock systems on them so they don't do that. In the video there's a silver lever which locks it or unlocks it.
Uhmm...
Ok buddy
Nice knives..history lesson for all who dont know.Auto Knives were made way back 100's of years ago Got popular after civil war where many soldiers only had one arm so knive and fork combo blade was made.help them eat their dinner in the field
I use one for a letter opener, the knife i carry is a fixed blade Camillus razor sharp with a paracord wrapped handle.
Is the word you were searching for "Leverletto" ? I think maybe so, but I'm not sure. Thanks
In fact leverlock, I think. Leverletto is a mix of stiletto and leverlock.
I know the typical "S" guard would fail if you tried to slice with it because of the direction the locking pin pushes on the spine.
But, doesn't the swing guard lock back the same way a pocket knife does? Hence, you could apply more pressure to slice?
Yes. Lock design is mechanically fine, but all the pins holding it together are soft brass so they will deform and move if enough pressure is applied.
They can be deployed as fast as a switch blade and from out of pocket to armed time is like 2 seconds flat.
those 13 inch batwings are cool! Not sure if they are still available though.
Nice video. Would a Dalton Cupid be a good knife?
They tested these at deadliest warrior the jesse james vs al capone episode
+Robert Richterich How did it do?
+Robert Richterich Wow! Did better than I was expecting! I think something like the Benchmade 710 would perform even better and be much safer though.
+XIUXIU1313 shure , when i saw the episode i alredy saw your video on italian style switchblade, therefore i was even more suprised how well it did
I dont see how them dumb asses seen it as a more deadly weapon than a fucking Bowie though
stilletto is practical ! talking by my expirience. is practical only for stabbing and for nothing else (and ofcourse for leather opening if you please :) ) ... but it is effective for purpose what is maked for !!! and is qite a special training for "stilletto fighting" if you know that ...anyway , is good knife for ick stabbing and last option street (if you a this kinda knifes) in plentyness of mutch effitiant knives on market . this was be a my first choise becouse emmotionaly conection from my childhood (only for that) otherwise I will take a "cold steel" -"kobun" for every day carry, like I do but never ever left my trustfull Franc Beltrame stilletto ! like you know ,dear friend, even with old BIC pencil you can make a hard stubbing on oponent beter then "fancy" tactical pen (what is in some parts on world forbiden like stillettos of any kind ,with or whitout spring assistence and beter quality then this in video!) ... however its only my opinion :)
He's right!! Switchblades are just automatic folding stiletto daggers. A dagger doesn't have to be double-edged.
And mine has absolutely no blade wiggle
Carter where can I purchase a stiletto if I see something I like. Thanks

Are the SKM stilettos any good? Seen some for around $75.
Im not trying to be a know it all but the early autos were mostly utility in nature and had a purpose other than a novelty.
The novelty Knife came way later.
This was used for quick kills and assanation and quick stabs
I would ask... how about the manual style stilettos with the pin locks? It's basically a backlock with extra engagement, right? The thin narrow blade is obviously not going to be as good a cutter as a buck110 or spyderco but what do you think of those? I ask as I recently found one I had as a kid and have been using it around the house. It needed a lot of sharpening but for light stuff it seems ok so far...
Would you like to sell any of them
those are some beautiful knives
A well balanced throwing knife is the best knife in a fight. That or something with a solid blade and good grip.
Do you have a source for that info?
those are really nice blades you got there. where did you get them in such good quality?
None of these have a lock as strong as the cold steel ti lite stiletto, that can hold over a hundred pounds, and don't take my word for it the company proves it in test as well as other people. People who don't think that the stiletto is useful say that because they bought cheap and/or crappy ones and don't actually own a quality stiletto. Buy yeah these definitely look nice, but if you want a REAL fighting stiletto buy a ti lite.
TheVoicedGamer in Topeka Kansas they have gun shows which is a conviction with knifes and guns that are good quality for good prices
wouldnt these be helpful for self defense? the attacker cant react fast enough before that knife penetrates his skin
They're good for self-protection when you pop one out it can stop a situation cuz people fear them I agree it is not a workhorse you should always carry a second blade for a workhorse but they are a personal protection item
👊
That's a 100% right one for self-defense one workhorse and one for something else I normally Carry Three my edc
Something I want. One of those blackened ones and an original. Sadly Louisiana has a ban, for now anyway.
Do you have any Italian switchblade knives for sale?
I've ordered mine from wish app you should look on there really cheap and look really good.
But is the spring action can actualy hurt you?
Hi, that other system is lever lock.
I have the dark green horn one on the right and I'm wondering how much it's worth
I have two 13" Italian stilettos.
One with a black handle and the other natural bone..Along with other smaller Italian stilettos.
I only carry the 13" ones when I wear my carpenter jeans. (I alternate their carry.,I don't carry both)
The pants have a side pocket on the right side used to hold a ruler(?) but work great for the 13" stiletto..
I have tried carrying my smaller stilettos but have had them pop open while in my pocket.(Not nice)
My everyday carry is a Kershaw 7150 with a pocket clip..But when I wear the carpenter pants I carry both the Kershaw 7150 and one of the 13" Stilletos...But the majority of the time its the Kershaw 7150 and my Glock 43 9mm with two extra magazines.(I live in the great state of South Carolina where its legal to carry switchblades and we are also a concealed carry state)
I'd totally agree with you not practical for EDC cool novelty item maybe self defense but mostly a figget type of thing
hey man are those knives safe to carry in pocket? Like can it be activated easily unvolontairly and cut your leg or something???
These are fun knives. I have one as a conversation starter and packages. I heard these were good stabby knives
Have the one, front center. You think that is wobbly and too much play?
Mine is tight and sharp, I do have the kriss blade however. The Germans used them in ww2 and they are for killing (stabbing) plain and simple.
what knife is that one top left?
What about self defense
I'm not sure you understand the purpose and employment of the classic stiletto. No, they are NOT meant for cutting boxes, or used as a pry-bar and such - so you got that right.
However, consider this...the KEY to near instant incapacitation of humans is a DEEP (or completely through) puncture to the chest. A thousand years ago, when edged weapons were the ONLY type of weapon commonly carried for "EDC," combatants realized that slashing and hacking weapons and techniques were inferior to direct penetration in terms of economy of motion, force, and weapons employment. Slashing and hacking motions are easily blocked and evaded, and while they may produce serious LOOKING wounds, such wounds were seldom an "instant stop."
However, one look at ARROWS - even short crossbow bolts with small, bodkin heads reveals an amazing ability to deliver as close as possible to a "one shot stop" by shooting a slender bolt deeply into or through a human torso.
How much is the expencivst one ?
300
Or you can get a fixed bladed stiletto. I used to have one and it worked really well
A well made one can be a nice collectors piece, but as you say their virtually useless for any practical purpose.
I wish i had one of those knives i cant get them anywhere
what about otf blades? I had one when I was a kid but it got confiscated by my teacher. I remember it having pretty solid lockup.
I haven't been able to find an otf switchblade other than a handful of really ugly ones in a long time.
They were designed for stabbing quick opening and light
yes
I understand your view on the knifes limitations, but historically, stiletto style blades have quite a few bodies on them.
Yeh, they were used to penetrate mail armor but those were not thin bladed folders =)
As for the origin of automatics, I've
Read of a few chinese weapons hundreds of years ago that would spring into place, but the modern folding stiletto Im not sure, Ive seen examples over 100 years old.
+Ivan Damico the oldest italian stiletto is from around the 1700s
+Ivan Damico i.m sure they originated in spain

the earliest stiletto switchblade is dated back to the 1700s
in response to obamasmyg. a switchblade is a side opening knife, like the stiletto. an otf is called an otf or flickknife
I have a reail Italian made stellto thats over 150 years old and its far from crap it won't cut through wood but if it is used what is was intended for it would be great i carry it every day for self defense if i need it and its one heack of a knife
make a video of the black swinguard please respond!
***** then why don't u make the video....
Off of a switchblade forum if I remember right. I don't even remember the name it's been so long since I have been into them.
it has one purpose. just one. self defense or getting back at someone who ate the food you were thinking of all day.
👊👊👊
the top one on the right is called a milkov i think. had one 7 years ago from prague.
Ok, thanks
ask a cop..
king hiro
but prepare to be frisked..
Amazon doesn't carry real Italian stilettos those are spring assisted for a real one try bladeplay .com
Switchblades are GOOD for 2 things and ONLY 2 THINGS: Collecting and Stabbing! Period..
I own a few I like them and they are sharp and dangerous.
IR not really
@@johnware8270 not the sharpest but there is no denying the fact that there dangerous

I’ve personally never have seen anyone fight with these. Maybe movies…. But that’s movies.
Are they at least practical for self defence
Yes, they are meant mainly for stabbing people.
Can you use them as a butter knife?
Lol
I think you meant shell puller? Like the Johnny cade The Outsiders knife. I'm getting one made be Bill DeShivs.. Gonna be bad ass!!
What a dope....those look pretty cheap, but mine has saved my ass moer than once, only because I didn't have my gun....
What brand is yours?
attila350 i have a custom made one that is meant to fit into my custom suit ( it has a secret pocket in the sleeve that opens when i pull hard on it and with practice i can pull out the knife in under 1 second
