I am 17mins and this is by far the most detailed and best breakdown of how people hire and should hire, helps me as a candidate for companies to understand that I need to know myself and if I will fit and the other way around. I assumed that I needed to just have the skills, but its way more than that and I am loving with content. Thank you
Hey John! a fellow founder here (ex Meta and Sequoia backed). Your tactical concrete sharing is exactly what we need as founders! Please do keep doing what you’re doing. Amazing to see the meteoric rise of Stan!
As a recruiter, I 100% approve. This is how you do workforce planning, job descriptions, sourcing, interviewing, and hiring. To attract the best, you need to give them a convincing reason and a competitive salary.
Hi Jay! We are first time founders building a marketplace startup and trying to raise our first round. Your videos are absolutely fantastic and super helpful. Please keep up the great work! So glad we found your page!
So glad I've been able to help you on your journey! Let me know if there's any other specific topics I can make videos on for ya! Genuinely wishing y'all the absolute best :)
As a Lead Software Engineer I never really thought about what makes a role attractive to me, but when I heard you mention a lot of autonomy, ownership and impact it makes total sense. All the best roles I had are exactly like this.
this is exactly the type of content I’m looking for as I’m in the early stages of starting a business - thank you SO MUCH for this breakdown. subscribed and can’t wait to learn more!

Love your videos here on RUclips so so much! They are such an inspiration! I even started to write my bachelor thesis on Stan for my university here in Warsaw in Poland, so you are well-known here too! Your energy, your passion and how you show up to the world makes me want to even join your team and help you with your journey and do even more! I wish you so much success and I would love to see your company hit billion dollars in sales, it would be such a hit! Love everything you do and everything you share, this channel is amazing! As a job seeker, I have a question. I hope you will help me see how the ideal job works so I can be the ideal employee! It seems you want an autonomous person who works on your timeline. Do you think that could be a struggle for a creative experimental autonomous person to want to do? How does that work out for both parties, so that the employee can keep their internal motivation and zeal for the project to feed that creativity, and the employer still gets the output necessary to keep the business moving upward and onward?
@@jayhoovymy guy pls talk about the communication loop when it comes to building a product. Especially the the more creative ppl and how you balance strict deadlines with enough freedom for them to really come up with something good.

This is so fucking good!!! I have a content creation business that has a sister charity in Ottawa and we have been getting more contracts and that part of me just being excited, they want to be apart of this journey is crazy!!!!!!
This was epic, super super useful. Would love to know how you think about strategy, and choosing which pathway to execute on that and then how that drills down to how you operate week to week
John - genuine question, when salary isn't listed directly (appreciate you have put top-of-market) how can candidates disseminate if they are in the right ball park. For example, I recently decided to leave Barclays bank where I was paid £78k as an account manager, applied to a smaller organisation as a senior account manager to then to do two rounds of interviews to find out they were offering a maximum of £55k. Thoughts would be great.
Do you have designer working in your company? What was the gap and the problem that was fixed by hiring them? As a designer with all the AI and everything, it feels like business owners don't see the value of the work and don't feel like it's a priority to them Wanted to see as a owner yourself, how do you see value in your designers and people working on the brand

Hello Jay, i've been watching for a while, and i really appreciate the great content!! I'm starting out as an investment analyst at a smaller Venture Capital firm in about a month. I'm trying to find the absolute best way to get ready for my position. What do you recomend i do? Are there certain courses, books, videos, podcasts that could prepare me for my job? I think my job will primarily consist of: - Dealsourcing and dealflow - Reporting to investors - Due dilligence - AD hoc Would GREATLY appreciate some help on what you think the best approach would be! If anyone else reading this has any experience, i'll be very grateful if you share some knowledge!
Hey John! Great video once again!! What would be your advice if your friends want to join your company, but you don't see them to be a good fit? I believe this is a tough question that many co-founders (I'm still a student but one day I will be questioning this too) are going through and would love your thoughts on it! Also another video topic might be of interest: how to get that initial funding to pay your first few employees! Keep up the good work John!

All of this is wonderful as usual. Do you have any content or video related to how do you keep them accountable in terms of their deliverables and tasks? I struggle with helping them allocate the proper work but also how do we measure their performance?

From a person who would like to join a successful startup, it is very insightful to hear about what it feels like to be on the other side of the table! Thanks for the amazing content!
Same principles can be applied in the inverse role, as someone wanting to get hired. If you’re not careful and intentional with your jobs your career can stagnate.

Question: When you are looking for a candidate what makes it easy for you to find them? ( this is based on people not in your network) Ex: Marketing Manager Location: Dallas, Texas and then you just go from there?
Just hired my first candidate yesterday and I feel overwhelmed on the jobs to be done part. Trying to set the priorities first and build from there so I’m establishing milestones for them to hit each month. Is this a good approach?

Align with them on their Goal Metrics (quantifiable goals you can objectively measure). Set OKRs for the quarter/month/week (depends on how long your iteration cycles are). Then you can always refer back to progress and everyone is super clear on "what success looks like"
