Above anyone else at Banger, if Dylan likes something then I'll check it out. I respect his opinion and his taste in music is generally very similar to my own. Good reviews, the only thing I would hope for is some more song clips so we can listen to examples of what the reviewers are referring to.
I enjoyed this album much more than I expected to at first. There's a change in style but they retain enough elements of their sound that it remains a "within temptation" album.
I like all their albums including the new resist one but I wish they would go back to the mother earth, silent force, heart of everything days. Their recent albums are still good but those were really good.
I really enjoyed Resist. More than expected. Saw them live past November and they really hold up on stage (specifically referring to the songs they played from this album). Worth a listen to and in my opinion it feels like they've taken a small step back towards a more metal sound. 4/5
I plan on listening to the album today. The Reckoning and In Vain are my current favorites based on what was released prior to the album release. Great job again Dylan, you gave a solid review and so glad ya'll did this.
I said it before but this review desperately needs more clips. Dylan points would get across better for people like me that don't know anything about the band.
But the beauty of the reviews is going out and discovering the band for the first time by yourself. I've watched reviews from groups I've never heard of who came out of bands I equally never heard of. Then I go back and listen to all the music and - like I said - discover them all over again by myself. Not sure if this makes any sense.
@@JamesLeeDickson I understand the sentiment; but a review should be as informative as possible and for a music review clips are a must. Particularly since the reviewer has such an insider perspective that, for a newcomer to the band, those points would be hard to grasp.
Raise Your Banner is such a massive sounding track. Was completely blown away by it. Bravo! Haven’t been able to fully dive into the new Soen album yet. However, what I have been able to listen to (the 3 singles plus the song River), is just pure soul and ear candy. These gents are one of my favorite prog artists, no doubt. Love the video! Thank you! 🙏👍😁
I have the Resist Album....It was worth the wait. Within Temptation was one of the first metal bands I started to listen to and with each album, they have improved themselves, elevating their music with each song.
I've always loved the variety of each WT album. I personally feel it lacks a bit on this album, but it's still a great album. I agree Raise the Banner is the strongest track, but I also absolutely love Mercy Mirror. Even though it's "ligh" it makes me happy. Firelight however.... I think for the first time ever there's a WT song I don't like. It's not that I just don't care. I literally don't like it and I've removed it from my Resist playlist on Spotify.
This reviews shows that Banger is a place for eveyone, not just special snowflakes that only like brutal growls. Thank you for reviewing this with objectivity. I'll definitely check it out. The Unforgiving and Hydra were kind of disappointing, but the singles this time around sound simply amazing. Sad they're moving farther and farther away from their origins (which is actually a doomyish branch of gothic metal and not this "apparently it's a genre now" Symphonic Metal style). But credit where credit is due, they are pioneers among their peers. Mad respect for them.
Subscribed! I love these reviews and can I just say, Dylan is looking extra good in that plaid shirt. I would like to see more of him please and thank you! Keep up the great work ;)
First and foremost: Loved the Gojira's "The Way Of All Flesh" shirt. Hell of an album. On a different thought: Wow. Dylan doing an Overkill review on an non-"Totally Prog" band. I mean, there was the "Chinese Folk Metal" episode, but I'm impressed!
You all should have reviewed the new Astronoid that came out today. It's a 5 out of 5 and will probably be on lots of best of lists at the end of 2019. Please make the Astronoid album your second review!
When the albums went on preorder,I thought Resist would be my favorite Within Temptation album since The Reckoning is a kickass song, and I thought Lotus wouldn’t be super interesting to me just like the rest of Soen’s music (even though their music is good). It turns out Resist is my 4th favorite Within Temptation album. I do like it. However, the guitars being buried in the mix and the even stronger pop influence than usual really took me away from Resist. I only see myself listening to The Reckoning and Trophy Hunter regularly now. On the contrary,Lotus by Soen was incredibly surprising to me. I really love that album and Soen has really won me over with it. River,Lunacy,Lascivious,Covenant, and Penance are great songs. Soen was “just okay” to me before Lotus, but I like them so much more now.
Again Banger TV? First was a BTH review, and now 5.30 minutes wasting your time about WT? Soen deserved a profound review. Lotus is a great nominee for album of the year. You better focus or Mr. Dunn will be very very dissapointed.
So I saw the Judas Priest "Firepower" review and this one and they both got 4/5 skulls? I find it kinda odd, 'cause I thought that "Firepower" is (hands down) a way more superior heavy metal album in comparison to "Resist." I would give WT's latest album a 2.5 or 3/5 skulls if would do this review. My favorite tracks on "Resist" are: Raise Your Banner, Mad World, Mercy Mirror and Trophy Hunter. And my least favorite tracks on the record are: The Reckoning, Endless War, Firelight and Holy Ground. I would like to know your thoughts about the record, 'cause I'm a music critic in the Netherlands. ☺
The reviews lately seem to have fewer and fewer clips of the examples the reviewers are talking about. Bring those back, it's cool to hear what they're talking about.
Hey Drew, you're not wrong. Unfortunately, using copyrighted music causes several problems for us and we simply had to drop the clips. You'll find links to the albums in all video descriptions so you can go listen to them while/after you watch our reviews. We're working on ways to bring the clips back.
I honestly lost the interest in them after The Heart of Everything. They seemed to be going in a way different direction, not bad, but not for me, I like my gothic sound (and quite frankly I am a 90s goth stuck in that era, I accept it!) but... this sounds, attractive interesting for me. I could give it a go after this review.
Well that was a reorientation I am not just ok with... I reallly like it, but that goes for every album so far. Nothing to complain ^^ How to not reorientate is what Bring me the Horizon have thrown at my face..
There is really only band from the Netherlands who deserve a place on Metal Mountain. The brutality that IS the band ASPHYX. Take that you bastards !!!!
About WT: vocals of girl is great, instrumentic is total shit. I think Sharon should think about changing the band cause the new album... It is not even temptation. Sharon is bigger then that band now. Beautiful voice with shitty pop music.
Raise Your Banner is one of the best songs in Within Temptations career but the rest of the album is kind of forgettable. It wasn’t bad it just wasn’t mind blowing
This band has lost their touch. Diabulus in Musica and Leaves' Eyes is where symphonic metal of the 2010s should be. Also, 4/5 skulls is too high for this sort of album.
So much for indie reviews. I know these types of bands get more attention/subscribers but they already have a ton of others places for publicity. Give the underground a home.
Friday was almost always about big bands. "indie" band are in second review videos (or you can say first), like "Swallow the sun"....which isnt exactly indie, but hey.
Roonagu Yeah and BMTH before that. Thanks for making my argument for me. Can’t wait till they review the next FFDP album. Or maybe something truly spicy, like the new Attila. But I get it, they need to keep the lights on.
Spending so much time on Within Temptation's record and so little on Soen's is a crime. The former is a passable poppy daliance that doesn't hold a candle to their good records (ie. Silent Force and HoE), the latter is an absolute masterpiece that sees one of the best prog band in the world at their peak. It will be difficult to beat for AOTY.
Please use more tracks samples during the reviews, they help viewers understand an album better, you used to do it but you stopped which is a mistake imo.
WT is not what they use to be, i think that Sharon lost her passion for symphonic metal music,i read her interview and i just think that if they record one more album after this, that it wont be any trace of WT that i fell in love with many years ago. That is just my opinion.
I'm not that familiar with WT but from the couple of songs I've heard it seems like she always sings with that sobby type sound? Or am I wrong? Its just not my thing and I personally find it gets annoying when it's the primary technique. Not badmouthing the singer, she is obv talented .. just for me that sob thing is a nah.
I loved the new album, although I would agree its not really metal. Trophy Hunter, The Reckoning, and Raise Your Banner maybe. But tbh I loved Mercy Mirror as well even though its 100% a pop song.

Love your reviews but dislike WT due to their generic and bland songwriting and great emphasis on cheap catchyness, I like catchy as much as extreme but both need to be good. As for Soen, I just find them mega annoying because they don't have their own sound due to their similarities to Tool and Opeth and I adore both bands but Soen just makes me wanna listen to those bands. Oh well. In any case a good vid!
Nice to hear a even heavier sound from Within Temptation, always loved Sharon's voice, but the last 2 albums I missed the more Metal roots. Soen . . . been a fan since "Cognitive", and again, changing up their sound. Always great to hear Martin Lopez and what he has up his sleeve.
Nice to see you gave Soen a shout out
SOEN struck gold with this album. It is so good
Soen is amazing and it has been awesome to see them grow and evolve their sound.
Havent heard WT yet, but about Soen. Lotus will be one of the albums of the year.
It is indeed one of the albums of this year.
For me Hell yea. I can't stop playing it

Yea I've noticed the reduction in music clips. Not sure if it's a copyright thing or just trying to streamline videos more.
Dylan got me into Vola...and swayed me to get Oceans Slumber which I'm glad I did.
I basically just watched to see if his hat was going to fall off.
I've been curious to know how he keeps it on. It must be no sudden movements.

YAASSSS SOEN! So good
The album was good but as you said, it needed more symphonic elements, that was part of what made Within Temptation special.
Endless war is a perfect song!

I'm really liking the more industrial feel
Same here. The cyberpunk/dystopian future visuals pair well with the industrial sound.
Within Temptation should work together with Dance With The Dead.
I think they could REALLY fit together well.
If you’re a fan of Within Temptation.....just listen to The Howling.
I concur with others; more clips. It's nice to see Gowan getting more comfortable with being in front of the camera.

I read comments for gold like this, I had no idea it was released!
Love the group
I'm not a huge fan of this album, but I really enjoyed the songs of Resist at their concert. I think they sound better live. :) ♥
I like 2 or 3 songs , besides those . A really regular album , not even close of the epicness of the unforgiven or the heart of everything
Hydra was like the worst WT album lol check out Heart of Everything or the Unforgiving

More industrials, more Symphonic, and less gothic (according to the early album), but I still love it.
There is literally 0 symphonic in this album.
