The main content I'd watch on the channel for the longest time was album reviews and Lock Horns. This was a great addition, gave me plenty of new records and bands to check out.
Thank you so much for making this video! As a Chinese metalhead, I have to say your list is absolutely awesome and really helpful for people around the world to get to know Chinese metal. Actually, it's almost somewhat a trend for many Chinese metal bands to incorporate some folk elements (or for some just ancient Chinese elements really) in their style, either lyrically, musically or presentationally. There are many great bands as you have mentioned. It can be really cool but sometimes it's a bit cheesy if you don't know how to do it properly. Some say it's a shortcut for bands to "stand out" among others but when almost everyone's doing it, it kinda loses its uniqueness. But props to those bands who really put their heart in their music and help to develop this genre and the Chinese metal scene overall! For you guys interested in Chinese folk metal or just metal with Chinese folk elements, I would recommend Black Kirin (one of my favs), Zuriaake (with ancient Chinese presentation), Nine Treasures (of course), Ego Fall (if you are more on the "modern" side). As far as access to Snowsedim's music and information as Dylan has mentioned, most Chinese bands don't use Facebook or Twitter that much, if any at all, since there is this firewall thing going on. They use Weibo which is China's equivalent of Twitter. Their music can be found on many music apps in China such as Netease. I'm sure you can also find some of them on bandcamp. Big fan of BangerTV! Thank you for making this. Keep up with the good work folks!
@@Domainz77 there used to be a tsimshian native american black metal band called Gyibaaw. They broke up a few years ago and you can't get CDs or merch from them anymore but you can find their stuff digitally on various websites
Yo thanks for the shout out for these bands, they really deserved it. Especially thanks for letting people know about Snowsedim. Here is a band that you missed Song of Chu, I don’t know how they did it but they made groove metal actually interesting by making it melodic and adding Chinese folk elements.
I’m not crazy about European Folk Metal, so I’ve never branched out to different parts of the genre. I never knew China had such a great sound! These bands are really fresh to my ears, I’m excited that I’ve found some folk metal I can get into
This is definitely not my scene, but I always enjoy hearing the musical stylings of different cultures and the way people from those places try to incorporate them into more familiar metal music
God I love this! 😍 I always enjoy hearing new music and this was so interesting/different, so I'm def gonna be checking these bands out -thank you Banger, and Mr Gowan 😉
Hoping there would be VOODOO KUNGFU was not disappointed and first band are my favorite chinese band, there is not a day I don't i listen to their song This shore they are insanely talented and it kinda helps me with my chinese learning course 😁
I was in a gig in Tianjin in the turn of the year, Dream Spirit was one of the bands playing. Im not that much into Folk but have to admit, their energy alive is great!
I saw Tengger Calvary in Kansas City, Missouri and had a conversation with the band. They're my favorite folk metal band, but the Swedish band Apocalypse Orchestra is a close second.
there are alot of Chinese folk metal bands, especially from Inner Mongolia (Nine Treasures like Nature said). However the one I like the monst is Black Kirin.
I also recommend Ego Fall. Great Chinese/Mongolian band with a good mixture of groove and traditional instruments, as well as Tuvan throat singing. Give it a listen!
I gave some of these bands a listen while drinking a few. I had a fucking good time. Scratched all my metal iches in a new way. This, to me, is a little more interestingly than Viking and Pirate Folk, but just as infectious.
Ive always loved the sound of folk instruments from that region. Usually dont like cheesedicky metal watering it down for me but Voodoo Kungfu is pretty fuckin gnarly. So thanks for that.
@@MrRick693 Yeah honestly i have not found much in the genre other than Kvelertak, hence why I would love a recommendation video, haha. But Kvelertak is so damn good and catchy I just want more!
Here is the bandcamp for snowsedim - anthology of ebony. Wasn’t too hard to find actually: infectedbloodrecords.bandcamp.com/album/anthology-of-ebony Should be some info about them in there!
You guys should really check out the Dutch atmospheric/prog. blackmetal and blackgaze scene, it a really cool scene, there is a even a band which mixes black metal with flamenco.
Tengger Cavalry was actually founded in China - they released some material before Nature moved to the USA and started a new line up. You have also failed to mention Ego Fall - which are admittedly, more metalcore. Good show, nonetheless! www.metal-archives.com/bands/Ego_Fall/3540270503
It is just my opinion, but I think you missed better bands on this one. First one particularity of the Chinese Metal Scene is that most of the bands incorporate, to some degrees , elements of Chinese culture and folk music. Some bands that could (should have been on this list): Ego Fall (Mongolian folk Metalcore from Inner Mongolia) The Last Successor (Prog Folk Metal) Zuriaake (Atmospheric Folk Black Metal) Deep Mountains (Atmospheric Black Metal) Back Kirin (mentioned in the Video - Folk Black Metal) Additionally China has a good Black Metal and Atmospheric/Depressive Black Metal Scene and some dedicated labels such as Pest Productions, that are worth checking out.
That story about dumpster bands making it in through recycling plant employees stealing tapes getting the scene started is pretty fucking rad. Just fascinating to me :)
I'm korean and I can honestly say there is no real metal scene in s.korea, mostly just pop punk-ish stuff, or 80s style glam rock ala def leppard, van Halen, etc. and they're not very popular with the general public.
Voodoo KungFu are badass. The frontman is known for petting poisonous snakes and once got bitten by a cobra, almost died, but he still keeps the snakes.

Is it just me, or the whale song sounds just like "numb" by Linkin Park?🧐
For a sec, I think that's "Numb" too.
It's very Linkin Park/Eluveitie style, gonna give their stuff a listen.
Never thought that i'll find something that sounds like Linkin Park and Eluveitie at the same time.
Bro.. I just commented the exact same thing! It sounds exactly like it!
Yep.... and it made me never want to listen to this band.
Whalesong? *GOJIRA INTENSIFIES*
275Ranger275 now I can see the whales
Do Native American metal, revolver did a little documentary about it but they didn't showcase any albums or music.

The Samans has this real neat Eluveitie vibe to it. I think, at least from the preview, it's the singers cadence and the traditional interlude.

Black Kirin is probably my favorite of these. They incorporate all the sounds flawlessly.
This is why I really enjoy BangerTV you all show metal from all over the world.

Surprised you didn't put Black Kirin on here. AMAZING Symphonic Black/Folk band. Nanking Massacre is a fucking BRUTAL album.

Same. Cus they have Chinese opera vocals in their songs
This has been my favorite of the series so far. So many good bands from China I’ve never heard of.
Great video! I always enjoy Dylan’s picks.
I am not a big folk fan but it is one of the subgenres that demostrates where the bands come from. Great research guys
I had a pleasure of seeing Nine Treasures live and can confirm that they are really good.
I also recommend Ego Fall. Great Chinese/Mongolian band with a good mixture of groove and traditional instruments, as well as Tuvan throat singing. Give it a listen!
This is not a scene I would have expected in China. Thanks for always pointing us to new scenes and metal!
Black Kirin (黑麒麟) and Mysterain (小雨) are great.
Mongolian throat singing is the best metal vocal style today! Change my mind!
i've seen Dream Spirit live in Greece! They were awesome, had a great time and they are really nice guys!
